I saw all the great reviews about Seattle's Link light rail so I gave it a try yesterday evening to…read moreget to the U District area from the airport. It may have been a random fluke, however, my first experience was a disaster at best. After riding 2 stops on the 1 Line, we were all instructed to get off at Ranier Beach stop as there was some sort of police activity prohibiting us from riding further and we at this point were asked to cross the street and wait for a shuttle. About 10 min later, a shuttle arrived however not everyone could fit so this shuttle was jam packed with people! We were told that this shuttle would take us to the Columbia City station and from there, the 1 Line would resume. As it was traffic hour when this all happened, shuttle was slow moving, so probably another 20-30 min later, we arrived. A train was waiting for us and after that detour, the ride was smooth all the way to my destination. I made the mistake of getting off one stop before I intended, so that added another 10min to trip, completely my own stupid fault. So a trip from the airport that should have taken a little under an hour took close to 2 hours for me. Was an interesting experience and for $3, I really shouldn't complain. I also saved my company $100 but also wasted 90min on public transit. And time is money. I think this might have just been a little bad luck and a less frequent occurrence, but it definitely made me not want to take this form of transit ever again. They do get one star because when I mapped it out on Google maps, there was clear warning there was a delay and detour. It was just my poor choice to take a chance and see what happens. However, if the opportunity presents itself again and there were no issues with the Link light rail, I might consider this option again.

It folds up safely and stores with my caregiver, so people who can not get out of their wheelchairs can have the space. I'm trying to respect their disability. Passengers have shamed me, glared at me, and harassed me, all because they strapped my empty wheelchair when I've asked them not to. (They will even fight with me sometime and I either relent or get off cause I'm so mortified) It's so bad I have panic attacks every time it happens, now, and I never actually want to ride the buses I need to depend on to get around idk what to do tbh. I feel so embarrassed and ashamed of my disability as I deal with people regularly staring at me when I get out of my chair..... I've complained to them many times, and I hear it's policy. Yet you can fold and store walkers and strollers, but my EMPTY wheelchair has to be secured. It's honestly not different from a walker, IMO? I stopped sitting in my wheelchair on the bus because bus drivers were leaving other wheelchairs and strollers behind because of me. I can get up, I can walk short distances, and I do not need to sit in my chair on the bus so that other people can have that space. It all depends on what bus driver you have. Some of them respect my wishes; some of them flat-out don't, citing a policy I can't find on their website. EVEN THEN, they have a Reasonable Modification clause that allows them to modify policy if needed. I want them to see how this singles me out and makes me a target cause I have a disability different from the norm. I get enough from other people I don't need my transportation to make it worse, sometimes I'm flat out too scared to get on a bus because all this.... I just don't know what to do anymore, and I'm so fed up and discouraged. I can't tell you how many times I've complained and nothing happens, or I get conflicting stories. I'm just so tired; it shouldn't be this hard to have reliable transportation that respects my needs and those of other people with worse disabilities than mine, who need the space over me. We absolutely should not be strapping empty wheelchairs, and we absolutely should be strapping in strollers with children. Why is that not policy????

We paid around $30 for the 3 of us, round trip. When you arrive, just get in a lane with your vehicle. Vehicles will enter in order of arrival. Fine for those who cut so please don't. If you don't make it on the ferry, then you'll have to wait for the next one. Have your tickets available, online or printed. While you're waiting, there's a cafe and eateries nearby. Once on Anderson island, there's a general store, museum, gift shop, sometimes garden market and other events, a couple of lakes, Air B&Bs. Definitely popular during the weekend so plan accordingly. When heading back on the ferry, line up the same way you arrived. If you're lucky an ice cream truck may stop by, otherwise not much to keep people occupied.

The trip to Anderson Island is about 20 minutes, time enough for you to leave your car and go up top for pictures or to stretch your legs. I love some of the cool shirts some drivers wear( those Hawaiian looking ones). When I first rode a Pierce transit bus, drivers were wearing vests and burgundy colors. Now they wear a nice blue color uniform! I have seen drivers come and go. When I first rode Pierce Transit drivers were very friendly and you get to know them well. Now fast forward in 2025, things are just so different. I do not know if the pandemic and crime has affected how our drivers interact with passengers. I am not sure. Today October 6 at around 8 this morning, my elderly husband took a trip and needed assistance with his destination. I understand drivers have a bit of duties other than driving. But passengers are paying customers and they should be very attentive to them especially the disabled and elderly ones. I have a problem with this. This morning was just too much for me. It only takes a second to direct a passenger to where they need to go. My husband called me and I can hear my husband ask for an assistance to his driver several times and he was not getting any response. I hung up and called the customer relations and I just felt let down. The man who called to respond to my complaint about my husband's experience was very curt and condescending. Frankly he could care less. You know I am hurt to give them so low stars but lately it has lost its shiny splendor of service. Do not get me wrong , there are still awesome drivers that make Pierce Transit shine. I acknowledge this and hope this review will encourage Pierce Transit to focus on all passengers from young , elderly , disabled and other. It is great that they offer free services to our youth and I adore even the mascot Boop! Yes I think that they can do this ! Apply it more in their training! It is a great company and I am confident that with hard work that Pierce Transit can be the way to go! I would love to give more stars but I am very disappointed at this time. I think crimes and possibly pure work burnout can be a factor . But it is never an excuse to ignore or mistreat elderly or disabled passengers. They are paying passengers too. I love Pierce Transit and I have to tell it like it is because they can do better!

He offered to give me a ride to the transit station where I was heading to avoid me being stranded in the cold. I am writing this review because he had no idea of the type of week I had just survived nor my health condition but he powered up the heat as soon as I arrived and gave me a smooth and safe ride to my destination. It literally made my day. I'm extremely grateful for his generosity. I thanked him repeatedly and his response was "Pierce Transit cares for thier customers." I did not know that courtesy rides like this existed and I'll never forget the kindness that he showed me when I had no other options.
