I came to her with a dull ache in my right hips spreading into my lower back. It was difficult for me to walk upright for almost a week. She listened to my issues and put a treatment plan together immediately. Electro- stimulation with acupuncture needles, warm heat therapy and a massage. I have been seeking Dr. YueLan for about a year for my upper neck/back and digestive issues. She has been such a life saver. My severe bloating has calmed down tremendously after two sessions. The sessions are about 20-30 minutes (for me). It varies on the session. (There are about 12 different types of acupuncture and not all of them require the sessions to have to be an hour long as some places that do them. It could take a little as a few minutes. If you are tired after a session, it's probably that the needle points were a little over stimulated. Just take it easy afterwards.) There's plenty of parking and her appointment times are always accommodating to my schedule. Check to see if she takes your insurance. It's always best to get a referral when you're trying a new practitioner. My landscaper told me he went to Dr. Chen some years ago and she really helped him. Fast forward to this morning and in I walked to Dr. Chen's Hacienda Drive location. I liked everything about it and her the moment I walked in. It's a nice large space with a number of treatment rooms. The space is light and airy and pleasant and happy. And very very clean. There is a small waiting room by the front desk, and a long hallway with a window at the end (lots of light; I mention light because the last place I went was really dark and doesn't make you feel welcome). Dr. Chen is a lovely person with a lovely manner and I had confidence in her at first sight. She took a comprehensive medical history and then gave me a treatment that lasted around 1/2 hour. I know acupuncture and this was good acupuncture. I hardly felt the needles as they went in and I zoned out immediately. Afterward I had that traditional floaty feeling, relaxed and rejuvenated. Dr. YueLan Chen is an amazing doctor ... I'm finally healing. Long story short I did some sort of muscle injury to my right should (embarrassing it was from trimming the massive hedge between neighbors house and ours). I haven't been able to surf for over 3 months. Went to a deep tissue and chiropractic place, diagnoses was tissue damage, no tear, need deep tissue massages. Well 3 treatments and still hurt and still no way I can surf. Ugh! Decided to do acupuncture and my wife found Dr. Chen. Dr. Chen is no nonsense ... asked what happened, where does it hurt, what motions cause it to hurt ... then immediately described what she is going to do ... needle here needle there and added electrical pulse therapy too. After that 30 minute deal she did healing oil and deep massage followed by medicine patches to be left on till next day. I went in on Wednesday afternoon and I surfed Saturday morning AMAZING! I first came to Dr. Chen's clinic 10 years ago when I first moved to North County and was in desperate need of pain relief while recovering from a car accident. After exploring chiropractic (which did not work), I saw Dr. Chen only 3 times and within a month all the pain and symptoms were gone. Now and then it bothers me so I think one more treatment will do it for good. She also explained how I made my problem worse instead of better because of some exercises I was doing. I have been seeing Dr. Chen for over a year now. I have Degenerative Disc Disease on top of several other issues related to my lower back, hips, and shoulders. Not only has Dr. Chen managed to keep my pain issues at bay for the past year through weekly acupuncture sessions, she has also been incredibly understanding of those days and times that I am literally unable to walk or make it to an appointment that we have scheduled. She has seen me during her lunch hour on those days that it takes me longer to get moving and to drive out to her office. I have honestly never worked with such an understanding, compassionate, kind, professional, caring provider in all of my years of treatment for these conditions. Dr. Chen also told me the type of oil that she had been using on my back that was comprised of natural herbs and had been incredibly beneficial in alleviating the pain that I get in my back and hips. While I did have to pay for this out-of-pocket, the oil that she sold me was much cheaper than any other type of topical ointment or salve that I have ever purchased over-the-counter at a drugstore for pain relief, and it was far more effective! I highly recommend Dr. Chen to everyone that I know, and several of my friends have benefited greatly from her treatment as well.
