The menu never changes, to be sure, but the Lifeboat has the finest of pub food: Scampi & chips,…read moresausages & chips, Ploughman's, it's all good. It's by far the best pub in Thornham, which might not seem like it's saying much considering the size of the town, but they've squeezed at least three of them into the area. Try the deals on the Pimms cups during the summer - one jug, four straws and you're as good as gold. As a 16th century pub, the ceilings are low, doorways are even lower and there are strange farming tools all over the walls. But enter the dining area and things are considerably spruced up. The menu is much more diverse than the pub's and every meal I've had there has been unfailing. Kids can play out back in the play area - much to the annoyance of the caravan owners directly behind it - and there's outdoor seating for when the sun decides to put his hat on. Never stayed in the rooms, though I know people who have and they've been quite pleased with them.

Lovely little pub set in a charming village, room was satisfactory, comfy bed, good sized bathroom…read more The price for a one night stay I felt was a little bit too steep in my opinion only because the amount I paid for the room made me expect everything about the room should be pristine. However, putting my pickiness aside it was worth paying just because of the location as I wanted to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, and this place ticks those boxes. Pub restaurant serves good food, although the service was a tad slow, but the meal was worth the wait in the end, as it was delish.

Try the Wherry and then have another. Great traditional pub food is served well but as a previous reviews says, it does get busy at peak times and the staff remain friendly.

This pub is a joy to visit anytime of the year but does get busy in the summer as it is the only pub in the village. There used to be 3 at one time but they all closed down, only a lot of effort from the locals ensured that the Red Lion reopened and it has probably never been so popular. I found this pub by chance driving along the coast road some years ago and have been back many times since. It has that old world charm and has one of my favourite beers straight out of the barrel usually, Wherry as well as other local real ales on hand pump, (the way it should be) like Nelsons revenge. The food served here is all homemade and I have never had a bad meal, there is also a childrens menu so obviously famillies are welcome not like in the fake Irish bar O'Neills which are adults only, but they only tell you that after taking your money. In the main part of the pub there are not 1 but 3 real fires which are a real joy in the winter months. The pub has been extended and has additional space to the back, partly in their conservatory and partly in another extension. There is also seating outside. From the main bars there are lovely views across the stream and the fields beyond. They have this year added accomadation by way of a number of self catering chalets which all have the views you get from the pub. I have always had a warm welcome when visiting this pub and the locals are friendly as well. I can't rate this pub highly enough. Well worth stopping off if you are in the area or well worth a detour if you're not!!
