The road…read moreleading in requires a sharp, 90 degree turn to the right onto a 12ish foot concrete drive passing over a culvert, between two gate posts. There's a drop-off on both sides of the concrete pad. To the left, you have a steep mountain, preventing you from swinging wide and lining up your trailer tires. Anything long and on a hitch/fifth wheel/gooseneck is going to struggle to make it through the front gate. We are 63' when hitched and my husband is skilled at navigating tight turns and spaces. When our trailer tilted 45 degrees because its tires were headed into the culvert, and our dually was as close to the left gate post as possible, our cortisol spiked and we had to leave. This was particularly surprising because we had shared our length at the time of booking. I did scout ahead in a regular car upon our arrival, and it was pretty and peaceful. We would have loved to have stayed, but even the size of the sites and hilly terrain inside the campground made me nervous in a big rig. If you are small, you will have a great time. I share this so no one else in a 44ft fifth wheel or even a long Class A with a tow-behind has to try to find alternate camping at at the last minute in this small town. Scout it out before booking.

The prices for the cabins are super reasonable, Smitty is a great host, everything that you purchase is based on the honor system, and the atmosphere here is great. There's places for hammock camping, tent camping, RV hookups, and cabins with air conditioning. There's even a spot to work on your bike, motorcycle jack, tire changing station, Laundry facility, there's ice there's beer fridge, and so much more here that you would not expect. I definitely recommend stopping and not passing this hidden gem up.

So this was my second time coming here, after coming up with friends two weeks ago and having a…read moreblast. This place is certainly up in the middle of nowhere Blue Ridge but worth the trip. You'll find deeper water here and less spots to get stuck. There is a huge grassy parking lot across the street from the ticket office, with an underpass (walkway under the highway) to safely cross. The only issue with the grassy field is the amount of flies and bugs over in it, so I'd suggest doing all your pre-tubing stuff in the tubing parking lot (sunscreen application, changing, etc). This place is an actual campground for RVs, Campers and tents. It's actually pretty nice, if you're looking to camp. Plus, you have a tubing place onsite! They have two types of tubes: ones with a hole so your butt gets wet and ones with a hole and cover at the bottom (no wet butt). They also have kayaks available, which might be something I get next time. The life jackets are required for each person but you can use them to anchor each persons tube to another tube. Cost was super cheap (I think it was $8 a person?). The drop in is easy and it's about a 2 hour tubing trip. Very scenic, cleaner water than you'll find closer to Atlanta, deeper, colder and less spots to get stuck. They have a pickup spot just before a bridge on the left hand side of the river, with short buses running about every 15 minutes or so. There is no alcohol or coolers allowed, or cans/bottles allowed on the river. You can bring a 32oz container with a "drink" in it. Yes, genius, loophole. My recommendation is to bring a dry sack with you and attach it to your tube ... you can put sunscreen, change of clothes, etc . The river water is very cold and can keep your "drink" cold. I had a blast both times! Be very weary of huge rocks you can't see in the river where the rapids are. They can certainly cut up your legs and also hurt your butt if you have it in the water during the faster rapids. Will certainly recommend this spot to others and come back. Wish it were a little closer!

A campground host makes daily multiple rounds throughout the area in a SxS, insuring order is maintained and is happy to welcome all. Setting right on the lake, they offer kayaks and pedal boats for their customers as well as a sandy beach for the kids. The little store stocks simple amenities such as ice, firewood, ice cream, t-shirts, and some basic camping supplies. Overall a very pleasant experience whenever staying here.

Cooper Creek Campground is absolutely the most beautiful, off the beaten path, places I've ever…read moretraveled and it's practically in Atlanta's back yard! Located on the beautiful and noisy Cooper/Mulky Creek just an hour north of Dahlonega up Hwy 60 and then up some of the most beautiful and winding mountain roads that make you think you're never going to get there! By the time you turn on to Forest Service Rd 236 (a beautiful and peaceful dirt mountain road that climbs up through the pine and hardwood forests), you realize there is something amazing waiting for you. And there is. Cooper Creek Campground is like reaching a little slice of heaven. Fifteen campsites scatter through out the lush forest, and five of them sit right on the banks of Cooper/Mulky Creek. I advise getting there early during the week so you can get a creek side spot ... there is nothing like it! The creek is rocky and noisy and if you fish, the trout are plentiful! I walked the loop and all of the campsites were beautiful and within easy walking distance to the creek. As a solo hiker and camper, I chose spot #1 for the way the creek opened up and the trees opened up around my tent site to give me a clear view of a beautiful moon. I also liked the quiet solitude of this site ... few cars passed here since it's on the back loop. The campground hosts also live two spots up. As an avid (delirious almost) rock stacker, I fell in love with this creek. The rocks are amazing and perfect for stacking and balancing. It was so relaxing I stacked till after dark and was up just after sunrise stacking again! The pine cones in camp are plentiful, so I got a good pine smoke going and didn't have the first mosquito or black fly. I'm telling you ... this place is heaven! After dark a bunch of deer came through my camp and lapped at the creek for almost a half hour. Two fawns frolicked in the fern thickets next to my tent for a while and were bouncing around like puppies! With the light of the moon, I felt like I had a front row seat for natures big show that night! Also, there are synchronous fireflies here, which surprised me. Just after dark during the Summer Solstice, I thought it was kids playing with flashlights, but it was fireflies, all blinking in unison! It was amazing! I can't WAIT to go back! In fact, now that I'm home, I'm missing it. Cooper Creek is open year round and keep their gates open 24 hours a day. You won't get a phone signal here, so you may as well turn it off ... the solitude is amazing! Each site has a tent pad, grills, lantern pole and a picnic table. There are also bear bins that are an easy walk from each site for discarding trash. For hikers, you won't be disappointed. There are five interconnected trails that start in or near the camping area (Yellow Mountain Trail- 3.2 miles, Connector Trail- 0.4 miles, Mill Shoals Trail- 0.9 miles, Shope Gap Trail- 0.6 miles, and Cooper Creek Trail- 1.7). I found myself hiking in and out and exploring trail after trail. The abundance of trees at Cooper Creek keep the temperatures down, much cooler than up on the main road. I paid $10 a night for my site. There are faucets for drinking water and there are two vaults for bathrooms. There are no electric hook ups or dump stations. Primitive camping at it's finest! There are no reservations ... everything is first come, first serve. Have fun everyone!

Long Ridge is a very well run camp ground with wonderful bathrooms and showers. They have spots for tent and electric and water van hook ups so they cater to all manner of camping. And while they advertise two night minimums online, if you call a person they'll let you stay for one night. Our neighbor smoked cigars and had slow R&B music playing till about 9pm and then it was quiet. We able to get a fire started fairly easily at our site. There was a pond with fish in it for catch and release only. No other amenities. The night was quiet and got down to the low 50s and I slept well enough to function the next day. All in all a great time here.
