Even those our connection has a dark history, the bell is meant to signify a brighter future. The bell itself is huge and very heavy, suspended in air with the ability for visitors to "ring" it. It is under a pavilion in the midst of Bissell Park, which has a great walking trail and a park/playground a short distance away behind the library. Worth a stop, in combination with the Children's Museum of OR, and the American Museum of Science and Energy, which both cover more history of the Manhattan Project and the creation of our small town.

If you are visiting Clinton, come to this historical marker (and do something else besides antiquing). Have a picnic, take a stroll, hang out a bit. Appreciate. If you are looking for another reason to check out this place just ask the local Hoskins store. Because this spot is also the Hoskins-Lane Market Place Park. Owned by the Hoskins and given to the City. Yep, your little kiddos are playing hide and seek and going to the summer festival atop another layer of cool history. Well to learn more about all that, you'll have to get a milkshake at the still buzzing 85+ year old Hoskins drug store just down on Main street.

I'm not sure the history of Red's cafe or even if it was a legit cafe. The mural paints a picture of a 50's/60's sofa fountain car hopper type establishment that you know probably serves burgers and coke floats. Overall the artist from the Smokey mountain mural company does a nice job. Gatlinburg and the surrounding cities like Sevierville have this nostalgic all American feel to them so this mural goes hand in hand with that vibe.

The restrooms were not working since it is out of season but not a big deal. The parking lot takes you right to the Scenic Overlook you just have to walk about a quarter mile give or take. They even have a state line identifier where you're basically walking in between the border of Kentucky and Virginia which I thought was pretty cool. I see that this place is also dog friendly too. Great place for a photo opportunity and to capture a magnificent site. The drive up actually isn't too bad.

There's restrooms and…read morea map at the end of the parking lot, and you can continue the hike to old Fort Lyon to see the earth mounds that were constructed as part of the fortifications. Don't climb on them though since that causes erosion and destroys them. The area is paved and is ADA accessible. It is very popular with families. Do note that the road is windy with lots of hairpin turns. The road is closed to vehicles 20 feet or longer in length. It's paved all the way so don't worry about needing a tall vehicle. You can apparently schedule a shuttle to the top if you don't want to drive as well from the visitor center, but I didn't see it running when I visited.
