Regular customer and called ahead for an order of cooked lobsters. Spoke to manager and asked for hardshell lobsters and paid a premium price for what I was told were hardshell. Got home and all the lobsters were new shell water logged lobsters. Could have purchased same new shell lobsters at grocery store and saved $7. Per pound. Called to speak to manager and she tried to tell me hard shell lobsters can become soft sitting in tank. Absurd and insulting as that's not possible only molting can cause shell to become soft. Bad enough they sold me soft shell at hard shell prices but she tried to tell me they magically got soft sitting in their tank. Would've felt better if she just said a mistake was made instead of the whopper fish story! Oh well, buyer beware read more

So be forewarned although this place is about my #1 pick for fish market, it is not the place to grab a lobster roll - plenty of lobster but a refrigerated previously made non toasted, non buttered roll fell way short of expectations- The shrimp cocktail to go at 13$ saved the day as far as lunch was concerned. You guys are missing the mark on the lobster rolls and could Probly double or triple your repeat business on those with a griddle and some butter.... Being a suburbanite from Northern Virginia, I know nothing about lobster except i love to eat it. My friend in Danvers doesn't eat lobster (WTFO) took me there to box up a few to take to my brother's in Saratoga Springs, NY Anyway, Kristin was really helpful and everything looked great. I did not smell fishy or stinky. It barely had a seafood odor, which I interpret as clean. The prices were very reasonable considering everything else that is off the charts expensive. Fish is usually excellent here. Not the cheapest fish market I've been to. Today when I asked for 1/2lb salmon the person helping me couldn't find a piece that was already cut in the regular salmon bin. She then spotted a pre-cut piece in the organic bin. She grabbed that and I told her "I am not paying $17/lb for salmon". She continued to dig around in the regular salmon bin and found a piece that was .63lb. A little heavy but at that point I was aggravated and just wanted to get out of there. I'm still annoyed. If I weren't paying attention I'm more than certain that she would have given me the other product and charged me for it. This is beyond wrong. read more

Oh my gosh! Picked up two mouth watering lobster rolls, one for my ninety-nine year old friend in a nursing home and one for myself. She devoured hers, without leaving a crumb. They are freshly made, stuffed to the rafters, and succulent. You have to put a plate under it to keep from dropping half of it. This is my go to place for all things from the sea. The haddock is wonderful! And there are no worries about the shrimp coming from a polluted river overseas. The people who work here are friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. In what universe are these little necks (separate photo with clam knife in photo section)? I asked the poor kid behind the counter if she was sure and she pointed to the sign in the case. It was busy, I was in a hurry and getting other things, among which were oysters. She picked them and dutifully tapped them together and gave one that was dead as hell anyways. Obvious the second I opened the bag at home. So, ok stuff happens, I know a bit about shellfish (and I am from Nebraska for God's sake), but Cherry Street, what the hell? Do you know your business top to bottom or just the high margin? People trust you. If a product is not worth the effort, do not sell it! Train your staff. Cue the John Williams JAWS music....... I was recently mocked for not being a lobstah lover. I grew up in the Midwest and the closet I ever came to lobstah was Lobster Rock by the B52's. I am pretty sure anything that requires it to be drenched in butter is very tasty. I am sure there is a plan that anything that is delicious is filled with fat, sugar, salt and high calories. Who said God doesn't have a sense of humor. I will admit I am intimidated by seafood. I have picked up some knowledge over the years but still a bit gun shy on picking out and preparing seafood. I am much better going out and ordering it but that being said it is not my first choice. Since I am living in New England I better learn fast so not to draw attention to myself. I guess that means I shouldn't roll in my Red Wings stuff.....NOT! The store itself is pretty basic and the staff here was very attentive. I decided to go with the home made crab cakes, stuffed shells and lobster bisque soup. The cakes and shells were great. I was looking for some local lobsters and they had them at a decent price. While I was buying my fish, I noticed a bin of lobster bodies behind the counter girl and asked her if they sold bodies. They don't just sell them, they're free if you buy anything. Then she asked me how many I wanted. I refrained from asking for the whole thing, and took three. Mmm, yummy lobster bisque. Of course, I confess that I'm one of those lobster lovers who don't stop at the claws and tail, but consume every ounce of meat inside so I ate those bodies along with my just cooked whole lobsters. Fresh, tasty, consistent, reasonably priced seafood! If you love seafood, you will really appreciate this place! Used to stop there almost every night to grab something for dinner. So many tasty options to choose from...do I grill (salmon fillets are amazing!) or call ahead to have lobsters steamed and ready for pick up (best fast food I know!), do I add steamers, kabob some scallops or swordfish, pick a lobster roll, savor a soft shell crab when in season, etc. or ask for a suggestion. Everything is amazing there. Service has typically always been very helpful and accommodating. Relatives across the country have raved about the lobsters I had shipped from there as well. Unfortunately moved away from Danvers, so not as convenient. My seafood consumption has dropped drastically as a result. I miss it dearly and still try to swing by whenever in the area. read more

I have lived in Peabody for 40 yrs and have been going to Cherry St. for almost as long. You know about the Italians and seven fish for Christmas eve. I would have 30 people for a sit down dinner and that included clams casino fried calamari, shrimp cocktail, baked stuffed shrimp stuffed filet of sole with spinach and crab and of course the biggest lobster they had for my center piece! Oh what fun we had! They never, ever screwed up an order and get this I never waited more than five minutes. Let me tell you this everything was as fresh as it could be never did I have a complaint. If they could score higher than an A+ they would get it!!!!!!!!!! In fact I am about to call them to order 2 21/2 lobster for my husband and myself for New Years Eve.
