This is always my first stop once I'm up north! I purposely take the route to Torch Lake that runs through Kalkaska just so I can shop here! They have everything from locally-sourced fruit & veggies, jams, jellies, bread, baked goods, sauces, salsas, chocolates, gifts, lawn ornaments, yard art, macrame plant hangers, pots, planters, and everything else you might need at a place like this! I have been driving past this place for almost a year. But since I am driving a semi truck, it's hard to find a place to park. I stopped in a couple weeks ago with my wife in our car, we picked up some cherry salsa and a cherry jam. Both were delicious. Today I decided to park about two blocks away and walk over. I picked up a premade Italian sub (I think they make them to order also), a half a pound of coleslaw, a cherry pie and two bags of apples. I see applesauce in our future. As I am sitting here I just finished my sandwich and my coleslaw. They were perfect! The apples will be made into applesauce, as stated earlier. Since I have plastic forks and knives in my lunchbox, that cherry pie is in serious danger. I might have to pull a slice out before I go home. Do you know how hard it is to drive 250 miles with a really nice looking pie sitting next to you? read more

I love markets! And this one doesn't disappoint especially for the area. When I travel this is one of my favorite things to check out is the local markets. So this is a must if your in the area. Lots of locals buy their produce and even flowers/veggies in the nursery in the back. But they have many option inside to offer. Pies, cinnamon rolls, fresh deli with sandwiches to go, local jams and yummy bread. But the thing that surprised me the most...the chocolates! Wow, and I love chocolate. Sea salt caramel, truffles and peanut butter cups-all super delicious! I came by twice during my trip and I will be back! read more

A truly delightful market in NW Michigan! On our way to Traverse City my mom and I passed this market and she said to me, "on our way home--we're going there!" So, I did my darndest to remember how to get back (I hadn't written the name down) and luckily found the spot easily since it's on the main drag in Kalkaska (although I could have sworn it was on the other side of the street!) Local produce is bountiful and beautiful. It's like a farmer's market all day every day. We bought red haven peaches, some early season apples, blackberries, apricots, plums, and more. We were curious about the apples and the super nice lady stocking the fruit gave us a taste of one and told us all about the type. Very helpful! And the apples were great! Inside is a small market that is very hard to move around in but totally worth the inconvenience. There's a small deli counter with pasta and potato salads, lunch meat, etc. Some delicious looking baked goods like pies, sweet breads, scones, etc. Some are baked by the market and some brought in, but everything I saw was local to Michigan which was exciting. I was sincerely impressed and left with 3 bags of goodies to take home with me. It's a bit out of the way for me to visit regularly and luckily for me there are a handful of great markets like this around me in Ann Arbor but if you're up in the Kalkaska or Traverse City area and looking for good, local, fresh foods this is your place! read more

What a great find! Driving through this town on a summer road trip, we happened upon this market right around lunch time. I am so glad that we did. Lots of fresh produce, bread, homemade candies and dried fruit. What I enjoyed the most was the deli style counter in the back of the store...lots mouth watering freshly made salads, wraps, and sides. Plenty of vegetarian options...love it! read more

Just got out of Cheery Street market and found during the check out they overcharged me on five different items a total of $15 more than I was supposed to pay. E.g. A charge five dollars for avocado $9.95 for some a bunch of green onions and they weigh the apricots the first time they were 3 pounds they waited the second time they were a pound and when we weighed there were one half a pound for 3 Small apricots Buyer beware check your prices as they ring them up .it was a horrible experience having to correct and question the prices. read more

I always stopped here when I lived in Traverse City and was driving to Grayling to visit family. Now that we live out of state, we always try to stop to fill up on great fresh fruits for the road. Everything looks so beautiful and is always fresh and tasty! This place is definitely worth a visit--but be prepared to spend a good chunk of time (and money) if you haven't been before! read more

I stop here every time I drive home from traverse city or from my friends house in Elk rapids. It's overpriced but I love the variety. And the outside display of produce is like heaven to me! I love all the apple options. I always stop to buy some last minute items for the drive and for home - apples, cider, bread, snack (donut) or whatever appeals to me. I usually prefer Roadside stands to retail. So I buy from them first then fill in the rest of my list at this market. Staff is always friendly. read more

This place looks incredibly charming and is a nice way to break up a drive down Michigan on 131, but don't waste your time stopping here for pie. We bought a mini cherry pie, which we were repeatedly assured by multiple employees was the same recipe as their regular pies. Whether that's true or not, it was not good. The crust was spongy, the filling was oversweet and didn't have enough cherries. The crust's deficiency could have been from spending too long in the plastic bag, but even so this wasn't a great pie when it went into the bag either. We put most of it in the garbage. The produce was fine, though. read more

I went to this store yesterday which was Saturday around 5 or 6. What an amazing market! The produce looked beautiful, the flowers looked absolutely stunning. To top it off they had pies that were amazing. I can not believe I have driven past this place for 5 years and never stopped. I can't wait to go again. Probably the best part about this store was the employees. Everyone was very nice and helpful. Everyone was smiling and when I talked to who I believe to be the manager I could tell he really cared about helping me find what I wanted. Amazing farm market/ deli/greenhouse in the small town of Kalkaska. Produce includes not only the usual farmstand fare, but things like specialty peppers, leeks, shallots, heirloom tomatoes and more. The deli has cold cuts, sandwiches and an amazing array of composed salads -- the usual potato salad and the like, but also a Tuscan bean salad, bleu cheese coleslaw and other goodies you would not expect. The store also sells oils, vinegars and specialty foods, and baked goods from the excellent Bay Bread. The greenhouse has a nice selection of landscape plants and items like terrarium supplies. We were just passing through town and were just bowled over by the variety and quality here. read more

We found this farmstand/deli when driving from hwy 131 to hwy 31 exploring the lower pennisula of MI. It has an ideallic look, neat overflowing stacks of local farm raised veggies, fruit. They also had fall squash and pumpkins. Inside the deli appeared to have a lot of delicious looking selections, we got a few pastries that were very yum (the pecan basket is a little philo pastry delight- judging from this little taste they handle philo very well :) We loved this place, though we would have also had some selection and fun stopping at more Mom and Pop roadside stands a little further east of this more established business- all offered fresh corn, wild blueberries, other veggies! I loved the Cherry Street Market. I wish I had a place like that near me in Northern Virginia. The vegetables were in great shape, we picked up some local honey, and I picked up a sweet treat at the counter. It was the best piece of caramel I have ever had. They have a great assortment of baked goods, meats at the deli, and other local treats. I will definitely stop by again the next time I am on my way to Traverse City. read more
