Then came two and a half months of being ignored -- unreturned texts, unreturned calls, a voicemail box too full to even leave a message. When I finally got an answer, I learned my box had been given away to someone else, with zero warning. I sent the farm a detailed written complaint directly to their own email addresses, specifically asking for a written response. Silence, until I escalated hard enough to force a reply. When a response finally came, it was from the same person who had been stringing me along for two months. I was offered a different box, much further from the stage at a higher rate. When I finally said forget it, I did get an email back that was NOT an apology, but rather corporate speak regretting that my "expectations" weren't met by the "team." The team being the one guy who hoped I would just go away and not press the issue. I was also told my emails had been passed along to the owner. Nothing. No response at all from the person who actually owns this business. I was genuinely excited to see this artist. This business took what could have been an amazing experience and ruined my excitement and left me disappointed. They tried my patience and didn't care about me as a customer.

I highly recommend ordering goodies from the vendors then having a picnic in Forest Hill Park. On my recent visit, I bought some rainbow carrots, acorn squash, spaghetti squash, fennel, and Europa fresh bread. As it gets colder there can be fewer vendors, but they carry everything you could hope and dream of. I loved checking out a vendor that sold holiday candles. There is tons of parking here and it's easy to bike or bus to. I'd recommend checking this market out.

The beef and lamb was tender but did not blow us out of the water. The pork belly had a nice snap from the collagen and fatty parts. The Ferrero Rocher milkshake was so delectable. The service was quick, consistency was not too liquid and not too firm that we couldn't drink it with a straw. Overall a solid milkshake. The sticky mango rice had perfectly ripe mangos but the sticky rice wasn't that fragrant, super creamy though. The original takoyaki were on the larger side but most of the takoyaki was just batter/ not much filling and seafood inside. Though we got it when all the booths were about to close so for $5 for 6 pieces we couldn't really complain. The spicy mayo karaage was a little tough but some pieces were so well crisped and the slight kick from the spicy mayo helped counteract the heaviness of a fried food item. Loved the pork belly skewers from the Filipino food stand, it was very umami and marinated. the lumpia was also not too oily and so crispy. Though the pancit was kind of bland and seemed more to just act as a bedding for the other food items on top of it. They give you sweet and sour sauce as well a vinegar sauce which we ended up pouring onto the pancit for more flavor. The night market also had fair games. Most of them were $10 to play. Toilets were also relatively clean and felt comfortable enough to use for cleaning up after eating all the food.

It is located behind the Ashland Municipal Building, west of the train tracks. When we started going to this market, it was the only one in the Richmond area, other than the one in Shockoe Bottom. It's open on Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to noon, although, many people are there at 8:30. In the winter, they have a "renegade market" that is open on the first and third Saturday's of the month. It's a small market, compared to South of the James Market, but everything at the Ashland Market is grown or produced locally. There is a good variety, the vendors are very friendly, everything is fresh, the quality is quite good, the prices are very reasonable, and there is plenty of accessible parking. The market is located behind the parking lot, and it is not over-crowded. Since we have been going for so many years, we've gotten to know the vendors well, and what they will be having at different times of the year. It's like one big family there. Things one might find there are: a good variety of seasonal fresh produce and fruit, hydroponic lettuces/greens, micro greens, herbs, a variety of baked goods (breads, sweets, granola, etc.), eggs, pastured/grass-fed meats (such as chicken, pork, beef, lamb, variety of sausages, bacon), fresh cut flowers, plants, jams, jellies, honey.. Occasionally there will be a food truck there, and there is usually live music each week. The bike sculpture is a hidden gem that was commissioned by Richmond artist John Meola, whose talent for repurposing salvage materials gave new life to what would have otherwise been scrap and so every angle that you look at reveals another bicycle frame wheel handlebar or gear so it's a fun place to stop with you're looking to get a photograph or you're a cyclist or just appreciate imaginative craftmanship. The prices were not even as good as the Food Lion down the street. But, I went ahead and purchased some fruit and veggies to support this stand. They don't take credit cards so I had to go to my car and hunt for change. The plants and garden décor they had for sale were high priced as well. The guy working there didn't know where the produce came from when I asked. I left and went to Food Lion and finished my produce shopping.
