Lakeside Farmer's Market has great weekly markets, both indoor and outdoor, with a wide variety of locally sourced food and handmade gifts. They are also home to some amazing classes hosted by Twisted Carrot. The food based classes take place in their industrial kitchen at the back of the market, while their artisan classes take place at tables set up in the indoor market space. From basket weaving to fermentation, you can learn valuable skills while grabbing some locally sourced goodies on your way out. I highly recommend. read more

Actually was visiting the Lewis Center botanical gardens and on our way to the next stop saw the Lakeside Bike Sculpture and had to swing in so we saw this and the Virginia love sign the farmers market wasn't open on this particular day though. The bike sculpture is a hidden gem that was commissioned by Richmond artist John Meola, whose talent for repurposing salvage materials gave new life to what would have otherwise been scrap and so every angle that you look at reveals another bicycle frame wheel handlebar or gear so it's a fun place to stop with you're looking to get a photograph or you're a cyclist or just appreciate imaginative craftmanship. This is more than just a sculpture it's a symbol of sustainability creativity and Richmond's long-standing connection to cycling. read more

I visited Lakeside Farmers Market on a Sunday when they were having their monthly Maker's Market. At the Maker's Market, there are vendors who sell various products, including jewelry, jams/jellies, clothing, and other goods. I didn't see many vendors selling actual produce or other things that you would expect to find at a typical farmer's market. I believe the actual farmer's market is held on Saturdays. I arrived at the market shortly after it opened so parking was a breeze in the attached lot. In addition to the different vendors, they had a food truck vendor set up and performances by a local artist. What brought me to the Lakeside Maker's Market was All Dis Puddin, a local small business that sells various types of pudding. Think banana pudding, but with different twists that don't all include bananas. I've been following this business on Instagram for a while, and when I saw that they were going to be at the market during my Richmond visit, it was my golden opportunity! I placed an order in advance to pick it up at the market. After getting my order, I walked around the market some more and checked out some of the other businesses that were set up there. I also came across Loquito Coquito, another business that I've been following on Instagram. I was able to snag their February special, strawberry coquito. Such a cute little farmers market. They are conveniently located near the botanical gardens. So before heading to the gardens we went to the farmers market and it did not disappoint. There were maybe 30 vendors there, give or take. Everyone was so welcoming. They had things from food items, to arts, pet treats, homemade items ect. They had 2 food trucks there when we went. Not sure if they are there regularly, or they switch them out. There was a donut truck and an empanada truck. Parking is convenient and plentiful. You have to check them out. Not a safe space for Black/POC individuals. The "new collaborative market" was built on top of another team and staff who lost their jobs/employment right before the holiday's. Piss poor business practices, kitchen in disarray. Not recommended overall, plenty of local markets to support near by. Try the RVA Big market! read more

Beautiful day to buy fresh vegetables. Several venders today. Tomatoes of course, squash and peaches seem to be the thing to buy. Hard for me to avoid a thick and juicy tomato sandwich. In a realm where everyone is avoiding bread, I'm still seduced by Dukes Mayonnaise, white bread and a beef steak tomato. If you get fancy and grill the bread in a little butter, with a thin slice of cheese to make it gooey and I will reveal all my dark secrets. Today is a bit more special with a fun and lively gentleman singing Jimmy Buffett favorites. Now I want a cheeseburger, with a tomato. It was a fun adventure on a slow Saturday morning. When ever I'm in Lakeside, I try to stop at this small farmers' market. I love supporting local businesses and farmers. It's open on Wednesday and Saturday and in a central location. There's tons of parking. The market itself is pretty small. There's only about maybe 8 booths open today. Sometimes there's a few more vendors out, but in the height of summer, I was expecting more. Most of them sell similar fruits and veggies, not a huge selection. The prices were above average. I wanted some plums, but they were tiny and soft so I passed. There is one plant vendor and a bread booth. And there's a small store inside that sells some dairy and other items. I bought some tomatoes, cukes, and berries. If you seek more variety, you may want to travel a bit to visit other farmers' markets but for a local spot, it's ok. It would be nice to spread the word to attract more vendors. In the fall, I love the Brunswick stew vendor, it's great stew and I am a frequent customer! read more

This small farmers market has become our go to for local produce. We bought some great salad mix from Urban Farms that were so fresh and delicious that even I have enjoyed eating salads. We bought pickles and plum jam from a local vendor that were so good my son crushed the pickles in a few days. But our favorite stand is Lopez produce that almost all of our produce for the week. They had delicious carrots , tomatoes, and my favorite were the jalapeños. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I wish they had more vendors but what they did have were great quality local vendors. I'd rather buy from local farms instead of organic produce that came from thousands of miles away. read more

We had always gone to the south of the James market on a Saturday morning but wanted to try something new. Upon arriving there is plenty of parking and most of the market is under a red canopy building that looks pretty new. There aren't as many vendors as some other markets but the prices were good and everyone was very friendly. Lots to choose from and we got some delicious tomatoes, strawberries, blackberries and blueberries in addition to corn that was phenomenal. It has more of a country market feel as everyone was just really welcoming and friendly. There are a few vendors inside a covered area but the majority of the vegetable vendors are outside. This market doesn't have everything that south of the James does but they are two different markets and I like them both in their own ways. read more

The Lakeside Farmers' Market is a great place to go every Saturday. (I have never gone on a Wednesday) You never know what you may find there! There is a great variety of goods for sale and vendors are super nice. Great community atmosphere. I also love that it is open YEAR ROUND due to their indoor section. The location is also in walking distance to quite a few local shops and eateries, so it is an easy way to support the local businesses in the neighborhood. read more

First time coming to the farmer's market not a lot of vendors but we didn't expect that during the winter. But the vendors we met were very nice knowledgeable friendly. Definitely will come back to explore local produce and goods. read more

This review may not be completely fair, because it's my first visit to a farmers' market after years of living near the South of the James Market, which has become my all-time favorite. With that said, this is a good little market with a dozen or so vendors bringing a good selection of fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, seafood, dairy products and baked goods. I found a nice quality selection at a couple of the produce vendors including some beautiful tomatoes, green and red peppers, green beans, and summer squash. One of the vendors also had some homemade salsa his wife makes. I haven't opened it yet but I'm pretty sure it will be delicious. I like that it's near my home and has reasonable prices so it's very likely my review will be upgraded in the near future. read more

Uhh I guess this place just takes really good pictures because I was entirely underwhelmed. only two or three stands with vegetables, the rest was premade rubs, breads, sauces, jams and house plants. you don't need it but I always recommend bringing your own bags and cash! read more
