What a lovely library!
I was staying with my in-laws for an extended period and wanted to check out the local library for classes, books and just to generally spend some time there with my young toddler and it was wonderful. I would say the only negative is that it leaves quite a few things to be desired for my own local library.
Firstly, the children's room is adorable! So big, lots of great books, and just a fun place for kids to hang out and play; there's an arts and crafts section, games, doll houses, puppets, toy kitchen/cooking station, etc, etc. My son loved roaming around and the variety of activities and stuff kept his short attention span engaged. Lots of other kids hang out there for the same reason, so it's a nice place to find playmates, too.
The baby and toddler classes seem to be packed--and for good reason. They are so fun and dynamic. The teachers follow a general outline for the classes but switch things up here and there to keep it different and interesting. With lots of different sing alongs/move alongs/dance alongs (with diverse music--Indian! Spanish!--no less), sensory toys, bubbles, a parachute (everyone's favorite!), the 45 minutes fly by. Classes that you pay for are not nearly as good. The teachers are all so sweet and so good with the children.
So if the above reasons weren't enough to love this place, they also host events (we were glad to be there for the festive Mardi Gras celebration), there are private study rooms to use, their book selection is great as I was able to borrow some recommended reads, and there's free wifi.
Wish my library could learn a thing or ten from this one. We will definitely be back when we are in the area. Kudos to the administration and the wonderful, helpful teachers/librarians! read more
