The outside of the building is very austere and gray. There is a fair amount of parking available, so watch out for pedestrians. The building itself is huge; there is a map in the lobby and it is helpful. The lobby has so much on its own - a used book sales area, movies, space to sit.... There used to be (if memory serves over several years) a coffee station but now holds maps for planning information. There is, off the lobby, also a whimsical duck statue. The Friends of the library do a book sale once a year. On the last day, it starts as a normal sale, and in the afternoon goes to $10 per bag you fill with books. There is a gap between those two sales, and a place to queue until the bag sale opens. You're not going to pull one over on the Friends and sneak in as the first part of the sale ends. You'll be asked to wait outside.

Plainville Public Library came into fruition in 1894. There are meeting rooms, children's room, fireplaces, and many seating areas. There were plenty of parking in the large parking lot; there were two electric vehicle charging spots as well. The building was large and inside was spacious. It's a very nice library but I noticed the hours are more limited compared to other libraries I've been to. I went on Friday at 3:45 and they were closing at 4. I went downstairs to the children's room. There were many books, computers, and toys. The area was spacious and a great spot for the kids. There was a train table, play kitchen, and coloring table. The librarian downstairs was friendly and I checked out a few books. I was able to drop off a few books upstairs the front desk. Overall, it's a nice library!

The parking lot is a good size to accommodate this crowd - the children's library is downstairs and the adult on the ground floor. It's huge and open, although with a substantial amount of books on the shelves (enough to where they have two small shopping carts available for patron use). There is a puzzle lending section, and for the month of February they have displayed a "blind date" book table where all you know is the genre of a mystery book to try. They also have display cases spread throughout the library with birds eggs that (if I'm reading their display cards correctly) are over 100 years old, and a copy of the Gutenberg bible. It's looks to be a great asset to the town!

There's a lot of open space and on a Saturday, an excellent place to let a dog stretch his paws and sniff. The library itself is beautifully designed - you walk into a little book nook and stare into a stained glass window. The interior has dark wood accents with a decorated children's space enclosed from the adult's, and a small reading area with a huge ceiling adorned by a quilt. The vibe of the building was very studious, and definitely encouraged reading.

One of the…read more oldest The present Durham Library building has been around since about 1901. An pretty old building but the areas previously libraries have been around for much longer. In fact the first Durham Library, a collection of books of around 5,000 or so, started way back in 1733. This is only two years after Ben Franklin started the famous Philadelphia Library. The present library has all the modern conveniences you would expect in an efficient library like computers, audio books, free Wi-Fi and even self-check out. However it also retains history and the cool ambiance of a historic library. A great combination. As you navigate through the books and computers you will see all sorts of cool and historic things like old quilts, pictures and relics of a much older time. It manages to achieve this in a very aesthetic and pleasant manner, everything just blends together in a extremely relaxed way. Of course the library has very friendly and useful librarians and lots of programs and events always going on and is a great place to do research, work or just relax and read a book. There are lots of libraries in the state of Connecticut. Some large, some small, some old and some new. Libraries and books are nothing new to Durham, but the juxtaposition of the modern and the historic is what makes the Durham Library a very special and cool place.

Great small town Library our kids grew up in this town the schools are also good they are a small…read moretown working class people who try and do there best to make do with what little they have. This Library is small but very safe, quiet and historical you could literally drop your kids off comeback 3 hours later and it's that safe although I don't recommend anyone to do that. The staff are all locals who went to school here grew up here and live here what more American could you get. This town is very humble and extremely Patriotic the Parade every year is absolutely beautiful the most tight knit community great place to raise your children please do not listen to folklore because we lived and raised all our kids here and wouldn't change it for an tinsel town hobnob stuck up snot nosed town. The elders in this community genuinely care for the wellbeing of its citizens and to me that's worth its weight in gold. Now back to the Library in my opinion it's the best kept secret in Litchfield County and most drive by it without realizing this, the Mayor of town has done the most for it and the Police Chief has made some great improvements to the force all in all this town has lots of veterans who grew up and live here for that we are thankful.

I frequent this library more than any other due to its proximity to my house. It's a pretty small…read morelibrary. But for the size it has an impressive DVD and music collection. You can find a lot of foreign and Criterion films and they are in good condition because they are hardly ever checked out. The CDs are an eclectic mix with indie as well as mainstream selections. The drawback to this library is that well, it's just hard to explain. Here's a list of some things that have happened to me recently: 1) A lady yelled obscenities at me for parking. Granted, she pulled in behind me but she was really unhappy that I parked in what she must have decided was "her" parking spot. 2) I held the door for a guy who then slowed down, didn't make any effort to take the door, and then stopped halfway through the doorway. 3.) The circulation clerk asked me if the classic movie I was checking out was a DVD or an audiobook. That's just shocking for a few different reasons. The building itself is attractive from the outside. It's probably one of the most visually interesting libraries I've seen in the state. Parking is ample but inconvenient. There is a small parking lot in front of the building that is usually filled. There are now a few spots on the street but you'll have a short walk, and a large parking lot in the back that is also a bit of a walk. There is also no reference librarian here. So if you want to put something on hold you'll just be directed to the catalog and told to do it yourself. But the DVD and music collections are awesome! That's reason enough to keep me going back.

In addition to the regular services of books, movies, and computers, they've gone above and beyond to catch your eye. There are binge movie boxes, a seed library, a "guess the character" end cap... There is art on the wall, and plants in the desk. The whole building is just so alive and bright (although since it is a library, it's quietly alive and bright).

Clean pleasant and…read more friendly Southington Public Library is one of those strange places that looks rather small on the outside but once you get through the doors just seems to go on forever. It's not one of the beautiful, quaint, old and historic buildings that many of the New England libraries have taken residence in but it certainly does have a unique charm and style all it's own. Bright, spacious and extremely comfortable, the Southington Library is a very cool place to grab a book or magazine, stretch out and relax. Lots of very comfy chairs and places to ruminate, thaw out or unwind. One of the things that really stands out is how clean everything is. No nasty stains on the carpets or dust on the shelves, everything is spotless and fresh in a very casual and informal way. Of course it has the usual books, magazines, CD' s, programs and computers that are now ubiquitous in modern libraries but it also retains the pleasant feel and inviting atmosphere usually reserved in older and smaller libraries. A nice juxtaposition of the charming old and the convenient new. The staff working at the library are especially friendly and pleasant, none of the stern, strict and severe attitude found in some urban libraries. This is a library that welcomes exploration and inquisitiveness. Even though the building doesn't stand out with any charismatic or historic characteristics, the extremely pleasant, comfortable and friendly atmosphere makes the Southington Library one of my very favorites in all of Connecticut.

My friend and I stopped by the Berlin-Peck Memorial Library because we saw some signs indicating a…read morebook sale. This book sale was much later in the day, then when we arrived. This library has a very cute children's department, it appeared to have a jungle theme. There were some kids having a good time. The books are well organized, anything I tried to find, it was there. The library is spacious for quiet, independent work at a computer or with your own materials. I noticed they have magazines and periodicals, some of which I thought were no longer being printed. In addition to books, you may also find games, movies, CDs, and even seeds. Yes, seeds to plant your own tomatoes or cucumbers. I have never seen this at another library. We found a small section of books for sale. Kid's books are $1, adult hard cover for $2. The librarians were pleasant during checkout.

Berlin library has a history that started in 1829. This particular library opened in 1989. It's…read morelocated in a lovely campus across the street from the town hall. There were plenty of parking and the library was spacious and had an open layout. When you first walk in, the children section is to the right. They had a large children section which was nicely decorated with fake trees and a variety of kids decor. They also had so many toys for the kids; from a toy train table, kitchen sets, cash register, dollhouse, and more. They had a wide array of books too. My family and I spent about an hour in there and loved it. It was pretty busy since it's a weekend and cold out; other families had the same plans as us. Overall, it's definitely a nice library. I didn't talk to the librarians so I can't comment on if they're nice or not.
