Besides going for a curry in Chesterfield and visiting Argos, we really haven't explored Chesterfield. It is quite easy for us to just nip into the Tesco or Pets at Home and never really make it into the town centre. However, we had a day off together (shocking, I know) and I suggested that we go into town to update our information at the bank and see if we could get breakfast at a cafe somewhere.
We found parking around the council offices, but I will probably never drive in myself as I drive a land yacht that would struggle around the corners and getting into a spot without taking up two spots. However, parking is cheap as we ended up spending most of the day wandering around Chesterfield. As we were coming out of a cafe walking back toward the bank, we noticed some market stalls further down, so we decided to continue on.
It was a Friday, so not everyone was there, but I have to say that it is still quite a large market with stalls either side of the indoor part of the market. There fruit and veg stalls, there was one stall with sausage rolls and pies, and then there were loads of stalls with clothing, housewares, cards, tools, flowers and plants, and sweets. We thought the indoor part of the market would be larger than it actually was, but there are some meat stalls as well as a cupcake stall. And then there is a cafe, a couple of places selling clothes, accessories, make-up, sweets, and yarn.
On the outside of that indoor part, there are some cafes, a cheese store, and a haberdashery store. It is a lovely market and I have to say I was very impressed at how clean the market square was! We plan to go back this weekend a bit earlier in the morning to have breakfast and then do our grocery shopping at the market rather than the supermarket! Not sure if all the stalls take cards, so best to stop at a cash point nearby if you are tempted by all the items on offer. read more
