It was the highlight of my Vegas trip pit stops D: + Yay free ice water galore. + Still much better than the Chevron in Baker. That Chevron's big too, but man it's sooo crowded and slow, all the ice is gone. . A meal for me here still costs ~$30 + Good amount of parking. I had: $11.99 Alexander bacon + $3.49 fries + $1.50 drink + $11.99 3pc Ckn basket + 3% cc surcharge + tax = $32.16 May '22: tl,dr: Fantastic in-the-middle-of-nowhere establishment! Tips: . If you're a dude, arrive here with a full bladder so you can enjoy a full shooting game on the urinal. ;D . Refill your soda cup before you hit the road again. Gotta stay awake. Likes: + Located in the middle of nowhere. + For a hole in the wall, it's a very well-stocked store. + Huge amount of gas pumps. Many ppl stop here along the way, yet there's enough room for everyone. + Strategic pit stop between LA and Vegas. + The tacos were great! + Huge assortment of toys and sweets to entertain the kids. Non-likes: - Restrooms lack paper towel dispensers. I paid: $9.99 (3 Tacos Asada) + $13.95 Chicken Fajita Salad + $2.95 Small Fountain Drink + 7.7% tax = $28.97

To be honest, this place reminded me a lot of the 100 year old liquor store I once visited in…read moreUpland. I had picked up a sheet with information on old Daggett from the Route 66 Museum in Barstow. Here's the short version. The original store burnt down in the Daggett fire of 1908. (the nearby buildings were also destroyed as well) But they rebuilt this place, and this became the first 'fire proof' building in the Mojave Desert. Fire proof due to the fact that the whole thing was re-built using a railroad carload of cement. (The roof too!) Back in the day, the place was one of few that exchanged gold dust and nuggets for cash that miners could spend. Later, in 1953, a safecracker got away with $1000.00 in gold dust and nuggets. But ya. Back over Columbus day weekend in 2017. I stopped in front of the place because it looked old. Then I read the paper and discovered it was actually old. Then I went in to buy a soda because it was kinda warm out. The guy behind the register was nice. The soda was cold. Boom. That's about how a convenience store run should be.

Upon entering the store the owner Joe made me feel comfortable with his warm greeting of welcome. For a small business they have good services and upon request will stock special items, such as favorite drinks or candy and snacks. You can rent a U-haul or car dolly. Pay your utility bill, send and receive money. Send small packages and even cash checks. So I suggest the next time your passing thru Daggett stop by Desert Market and say hello to Joe, Mic and Beckey. Dortha,
