Nice food and place. Service fine. Food average if you're a veggie and meaty options hit and miss. But we've gone back so minor points.

Rustique - Starter portion of mussels

Very popular spot so we suggest to book a table before going. We have seen people being turned away…read morebecause there's no availability. Menu was great and I definitely recommended their mussels. They have a starter portion and a main portion, tbh it doesn't make a massive difference. If you want to try a few more things, get it as a starter and get something else for main. We are rather disappointed in the duck leg because the flavor was so uneven - some bites are great, some are too spiced.

I adore French food and when I saw there was a French restaurant in York that had good reviews and…read morefairly reasonable prices, I made a reservation for our first of four nights in town. We were seated quickly and had a nice table on the main floor. Our drink orders were taken post haste, a bottle of Les Vignerons - Carignan Syrah (£25.15) and a pineapple juice (£2.25), and delivered equally as fast. The male server arrived with an open bottle and started pouring, chug-a-lug-a-lug, no tasting, just sloppily emptying the bottle into my glass. It was tremendously unimpressive. Great start! We both ordered the three-course Set Menu (£25.95). For our entrees, I had the Moules Marinieres à la Creme (mussels in a wine, garlic, herb, and cream sauce) and my wife the Champignons a L'Ail (mushrooms in a garlic cream sauce). My mussels were plentiful for a starter and fresh, but I could barely taste the wine, garlic, or cream. The sauce was watery. My wife's mushrooms were very tasty. On to Les Plats Principaux ... Mine was the Steak Frites with Mushroom Sauce and my wife's the Tarte aux Champignons et Pont L'Eveque (mushroom tart with leeks and Pont L'Eveque cheese). My steak was tiny, four to five ounces max, and half of it was gristle, so I was able to swallow maybe three ounces of it. I told the server that the first bite was very tough, but I never saw her again until I had chewed and spat out half of the steak. The fries were hot and tasty and the mushroom sauce was good, but what a huge disappointment. My spouse enjoyed her tart, but I thought it was rather bland. For dessert, I asked for the Sèlection de Fromages Francais (French cheese board) and my lovely bride the Crème Brûlèe. My cheeses were very good, with three varieties and coming with a bit of lettuce and a few grapes as well as a small baguette. I left just enough wine in the bottle to savor one of my favorite things in life - cheese, bread, and wine. My wife's crème brûlèe was massive, the biggest I had ever seen, so she hit a triple while I had just s single - she hit 1.000 for the night while I hit a mere .333. Our server, Didi, was very sweet and felt terrible because I had not enjoyed my meal, so she offered to discount my meal. However, my journalistic integrity would not allow me to accept remuneration for my meal and we paid full fare - £91+ including tip. A couple of small things spoiled this meal and both were completely avoidable. A little more wine, garlic, and cream, a minuscule cost for the restaurant, would have brought the mussels to a five-star level. As far as the tiny, cheap cut of meat I received, I had no problem with the size had it been tender because bigger is not always better, just ask my friend's wife. Quality control in the kitchen was obviously lacking, hence my rating ... CombatCritic Gives Rustique 4 Bombs Out Of 10 ... More Bombs Are Better!

Mention French cuisine, and images of a piece of mangetout in a dot of "jus" on a plate spring to mind. This is SO not the case at La Boheme, but before I go into details about the food, let me describe the whole experience. This restaurant is owned by Olivier and Adele Troalen who have created an absolute treasure. Firstly and most importantly, you HAVE to book here. No matter what night of the week or what time you go, I will say it again;" YOU HAVE TO BOOK". This is everybody's favourite place and can be booked up a couple weeks on advance so if Valentines Day is approaching, fellas I would book before Christmas! Secondly, as you walk in, you are seated in the pleasant bar area, and sometimes given complimentary canapes as you peruse the menu. Good idea this as it cuts down the time you sit at your table, deliberating over the Steak or the Sea bass. Decor is muted greys and jade greens and is the epitome of class. Once seated, food is served quickly by lovely staff. The Maitre 'D is almost a caricature, small, round and a bundle of energy he is totally lovely and makes every customer feel special. Now for the food! I always take advantage of "Le Menu Fixe" which is 3 courses for £22.50 and £8.95 for children under 10 years old. For this miniscule sum, you have a choice from 10 different starters and 12 different mains. I must recommend the scallops for starter, they are the best I have ever tasted, and the fillet of beef and the Gressingham duck is too die for. Everything is served with beautifully cooked seasonal veg in light and lovely sauces. When the desserts arrive they are like pieces of art work on the plates and I get all greedy and have the "Assiette Gourmande" which is 5 perfect puddings on a plate. Seriously, who can resist a mini apple crumble next to a mini creme brulee? When you leave La Boheme you are so full you think you won't eat for a week. This is incredible food for incredible value and I can't say a bad word about it.

Mushroom soup was nothing special. Fish was very tender but the sauce that it sat in was not very appealing. Duck was a bit chewy and did not have enough flavor. Crème brûlée had food flavor and a fun presentation with flame lit up at the table but lacking some fresh tart fruit to balance the sweetness of the custard. Every dish has the same garnish which was rather boring.

So, the boyfriends birthday seemed like an excellent opportunity to try it. We ordered 2 glasses of champagne on arrival and cosied up in the corner of this small, intimate and romantic restaurant. There was plenty to choose from on the menu but in the end i opted for a salmon and avocado tartar for starter and the beef fillet for main course. Both were delicious, with a special mention to the dauphinoise potatoes that came as a side-order! For desert i opted for a crepe soufle - this too was magnificent. Overall, the meal came in at £150.00 with a bottle of Sancere and was well worth it in my opinion. I just need another special reason to visit again!!

After hearing good things about this place for gluten free, I called in and decided to order from their lunch menu. It was around £11 for 2 courses. For my starter, I ordered the Eggs Florentine which is a poached egg on gluten free bread with hollandaise sauce, and sadly it was a giant, bland mess. I didn't really like the sauce, there was too much of it and it got messy really quickly, the dish as a whole was poor, unseasoned and the bread was burnt. The staff didn't seem friendly, service overall seemed slow, they had a sense of arrogance and shock when I sent my food back as well. One thing that shocked me was that the old fashioned decor Cote had only one member of staff working, with the other looking like he was in 'training', running around like a headless chicken with my food before someone else brought it, based on what was to come I'd have wished he would have run off with my food. For my main, I ordered the seabass and again experienced similar problems, the fish its-self was too oily and watery to the point I ended up leaving it, the only thing of decent quality was the chive potatoes which for me isn't right. Sadly, due to issues with the overall feel inside Cote, food quality and service I feel Cote deserves a one-star rating with the main positive being the use of 'Gluten Free' flags in the food to minimise the risk of cross-contamination etc.

I am coming back here in…read moretwo weeks but I thought best to write down this experience. 2nd January and we've been cooking for 20 people after staying away and celebrating NYE with friends. We came back to a cold, wet Manchester and decided to go to Linguine and try and get a table. I walk past this restaurant many times a week and there are always people in it and often very busy. We got there after 6.30pm and was told by the Manager that our table was required by 8pm, after looking at his tablet again, we had to be out by 7.30pm. Not sure how many covers there are but there were only four other tables taken. We sit down, tucked by the bar area and look at the menu. I asked a waiter which wine goes well with seafood and was given an idiots guide to the wine menu. His was Italian and his English wasn't good so I opted for a house white. Our food was served by another waiter as I wasn't sure whether the earlier gentleman was just a barman. We didn't have to wait long for our seafood pasta and pizza. The food came and it tasted very good. Unfortunately, I did not take photos as our service wasn't as friendly as I would have liked. The manager served our food. We ate our tasty food and kept looking around and seeing not many other customers arrive and wondering why he would lie about all the tables being occupied. We were dressed smart/casual for a Saturday night. Sadly, we didn't have any starters or desserts as we were very time conscious which also ruined our experience of the food. We asked for the bill, paid less than 10% tip and went over the road to the local Co-op to buy dessert and walked home feeling disappointed that we felt rushed and would have preferred to have dined in a different restaurant or got takeaway. As mentioned earlier, I am hoping for a better experience when I return in a couple of weeks time.
