By the time we got dessert everyone had empty glasses and the waiter had given up asking if we wanted top ups. We were only offered two drinks the entire meal. Finally, after a long wait and sub par service we then noticed a 10% service charge had been added to the bill with no prior notice. Having bad good experiences with branches in Leeds and Manchester Piccadilly, I thought I'd give this branch a try. This branch is located inside The Trafford Centre's "Great Hall" and although it is meters away from the central, fast food part of the Orient, it is a much quieter place, making it a good place to have a bit of peace in the Trafford Centre, which we all know is more mayhem than a primary school reception class. The service here was reasonably quick, and the staff seemed nice / helpful, however this was mainly down to this restaurant being as quiet as a library, ironically in a shopping centre, as busy as the attractions in Rome. I ordered a GF Carbonara, having noticed they had a good gluten free menu, although it would have been nice to see pizza on the menu, as this is an italian chain, I still looked forward to having pasta gluten free, as it is something I rarely have. The pasta was quite nice, and it was better than the GF Carbonara I had on a recent trip to Rome (So nice job Carluccio's), I also found it to be very cheap for gluten free food and restaurants, costing around £8, which easily could have been 30 - 50 percent more elsewhere. I like the addition of parmesan cheese, and overall it was good quality. Even as not a big fan of bacon, I enjoyed it being added into my meal. This is also quite a nice restaurant in general, due to limitations with it being inside "The Great Hall", it does not consider the traditional Carluccio's layout, but seems a nicer place, and a little more high-end and posh (although as far as I'm aware the prices are the same!) If you're looking for a nice place to eat in the Trafford Centre, which has MOST items reasonably priced, I'd say here is your best shot, but still I can't give more than 3 stars due to some minor problems, and an issue when paying on my card, meaning I had to tick a box to tip when paying on my card (I only paid on my card to avoid giving a tip, but felt like I couldn't refuse when they was a waiter standing there and even pointed it out to me) UPDATE: After a recent visit, a downgrading quality of food where the pasta just tasted like stale, bland cardboard still for a high price with poor service from the floor staff and the manager who never even resolved my complaint or made any attempt to address it, I sadly feel this is now a place to avoid rather than to rush too, sadly warranting a single one star.

The venue feels both like a restaurant indoors, despite having no walls, and like being outside thanks to plants and lighting, it's been very cleverly designed to work well with its surroundings whilst remaining comfortable and welcoming. I believe the restaurant was experiencing a staff shortage on this particular evening, however I think it'd be preferable at that point for them to take on fewer guests and be realistic about how quickly food may get out so that the guests they are serving have a pleasant experience. This branch is probably the largest and it seems the nicest decor wise, being up just one slight step before going in to a large building, which is actually a former bank. Having wanted to try this branch for a while, I found today to be the perfect moment having found myself to be hungry in Manchester city centre with the Piccadilly branch which I went into first, having no working oven, as well as considering I had a £20 voucher from Head Office to make up for an experience at the Trafford Centre branch, where they given me a pizza which contained gluten despite being well aware of my allergy to gluten. I had quite a few issues with this branch which I'm going to explain in paragraph form. Service: The waiter to me seemed quite rude. When I was still deciding what to order, he basically just stood there without offering any suggestions, this was a shame and slightly intimidating as I felt slightly rushed to order my food despite saying "Can I have a few more minutes?" The server didn't even know much about the products. I asked what the star meant next to the potatoes and he said the star meant it contained potato, although this applied to the broccolli as well. I presume it meant they were fried in the same oil as things which had gluten in, but he just didn't seem to know. He also described the house slaw just as vegetables. He lacked all product knowledge as well as friendliness, enthusiasm and good customer service. As my phone was going to run out of charge, he seemed unwilling to even take my voucher code beforehand and I really had to pressure him to do that which was once again bad customer service. When my food arrived, I was then told I would have no potatoes which really made me angry and sad, as I had not only ordered them but I had a conversation about them with my waiter. When I asked to have some, he refused and said they would take too long, which was really frustrating I couldn't have them due to timing even though they allegedly had them in, gave me no prior warning and I did order them in the first place. Food Quality: The food really disappointed me. The pizza base tasted far from fresh, it just tasted far too soft, it was soggy and bland to the point the pizza would have been better just the toppings on the plate. Even the toppings weren't fantastic, the pepperoni was just really small slices, like you'd give to a kid and their was some areas of the pizza which didn't have as much toppings on, making it basically inedible due to the poor quality of the pizza base. The food was expensive too for the quality and awful service, it came to £25 for my pizza with a Spaghetti Bolognase for my friend, which she also commented was poor and a bottle of Orchard Pig cidre. Mainly due to the awful quality of food and service, I feel even one star is generous for this place which is a real shame considering how much I liked Zizzi in the past, and as a chain they seem to have gone downhill drastically and this branch is a prime example of that.

Having been impressed by their Prestwich branch, where I most recently awarded it a three-star rating (previously a four!), I decided to try this out after stumbling across Croma on UberEATS. Originally the app didn't allow me to specify gluten free - this is something which needs addressing however after a quick call with the store, the manager seemed friendly to assist and make sure my order was gluten-free and I could still get my food. The restaurant its self is an impressive old building, it is up a couple of steps to get in - which could be a problem for some. I ordered a Gluten Free Americana pizza, the pizza its-self was quite good quality, the passata was a little runny at times but overall the pizza was a decent pizza, especially for gluten-free, much beating most other takeaways I could have had including Domino. The overall prize was good too for delivery, my pizza came delivered the short half a mile journey to the Hilton Manchester Deansgate for £11, the delivery free was set by UberEATS and cost around £2.50 in that total. The pricing for eating in, however, is pretty much average, with it being a small restaurant they lack the offers which bigger chains do, meaning it could work out slightly more expensive than rivals, including (but not limited to) Bella, Pizza Express and Zizzi. The menu selection is pretty good too, if you like pizzas but maybe not so much for everything else. is this somewhere I'd order from or visit again?
