Admin only supports select students and cares about school image over student well being. The admin neglects victims and targets particular students (typically new) with use of manipulation. I have been manipulated by members of admin personally and only given access to a biased counselor. This school will break your kid to the lowest mental stability they will ever be at to preserve school identity+ aid select students. Multiple bad experiences, I would never recommend this school to anyone (social wise).

North Family members are encouraged to participate in the monthly social events throughout the year. Finally, many of the students are not from the immediate area and some of the students are bused to Skinner North. In the morning and at the end of the day the buses are lined up waiting for their students. For parents that are interested Skinner North Classical School for their child, they can attend one of many open houses for prospective families. I gave Skinner North Classical 4.5 stars, but since there is not a half star I have raised my rating up to 5 stars. The half a star deduction is because of the busing, in bad weather buses can be late coming or going which would cause children to spend more time on the bus, and would cut into the children's instructional time. Skinner North does have fantastic programs and a superior teaching staff that is dedicated to working with every student using differentiated instruction to help the students succeed.

My program, Addictions Studies moved to Kennedy King College from Harold Washington College back in…read moreFall 2016, resulting in me transferring to this campus. Most of the classes I took on this campus pertained to the degree I pursued which were mostly social work, mental health and a child development class. Kennedy King College is a very relaxed environment and the classroom sizes are intimate which gives you opportunities to get to know your classmates and more time with the professors. The social work and mental health professors I have had are very knowledgeable because most still work in the fields they are teaching. And as semesters went by, I regularly found myself returning to old valid notes in realization of how amazing my social work, and mental health professors were in preparation. Most of the books we utilized were up-to-date with the books used at Chicago State University or Governor State University. As for the staff, I have not encountered many rude staff members. For the most part, the onse I have encountered are laid back and down to earth, but you still have the few that are not the friendliest. Like any other college campus you will have students that are not as serious in their studies in comparison to others, such as seeming like it is a high school reunion versus putting in the work in the library or computer lab to get studies done. Do not be the one! Get the work done and move on! If I can give any advice to any new students, I would say research the program you want to study and the classes you need to take that are part of it. And always make sure your FASFA is submitted prior to completing an application because it will make things somewhat smoother once you enter the campus. It will seem like a rough ride, but you will get the hang of the process, as far as where online to choose classes and once you visit campus who to see. The Veteran Services Center is nowhere near what I have experienced at Harold Washington College, but it is ok! I think that it is because Harold Washington College has more veterans on campus and younger versus Kennedy King College, so more work is put into the program. Other than that, I have not had any issues with my Post 911 nor Illinois Veterans Grant paperwork being submitted. Located on the campus is a pool, gym, and a cafeteria with reasonably priced foods, which I may have shared pictures of. I cannot speak about the pool, but the gym is very nice! It is equipped with enough workout stations that will assist you with staying fit during the semester. I loved working out in-between class because it helped me clear my mind going into class, plus relieved that the workout is done. All, the pool, gym, and cafeteria are located in the 'W' building. The college sits right outside of CTA Halsted and has a Divvy bike share, if that's your thing! There is also a huge parking lot, if you wish to drive to campus. Kennedy King College is not a bad school, however, the area may be sketchy during the evening hours, but I have not encountered anything crazy as of yet! I think many students avoid taking classes here due to the campus being in Englewood, but I assure you there is not anything to worry about, as long as you are not up to no good off campus you will have a great time at Kennedy King College. However, he was met with sarcasm and rudeness from the people who were theyre to give him the information. He's a first generation college student so he's starting from scratch and these people kind of changed his excitement for starting here. I don't take kindly to people who dislike their jobs and takes it out on the very people they should be helping. They know they're in a predominately black neighborhood they should be more helpful, receptive and polite!

After completing the Studio program, I can say I highly recommend this class. It's definitely for…read morethose who are ready to work hard and are in it for the long haul. This class slowly delivers their method which gives you great structure for prep and gives you tools to focus before an audition/performance. The way it slowly unfolds definitely is intentional and allows you to really hone your process and helps to try to avoid common pitfalls. I especially appreciated this program already having a lot of acting training - getting some new tools (while being familiar with some things) and more structure for my process. However, I talked to newer actors who loved starting with this program too and complained of other schools not actually teaching students how to act but rather just getting notes on specific scenes done in class. What you learn in this class can be applied to every audition/performance scenario. Every teacher I had (4 total including subs) were generous, kind and still pushed you hard. They also did a good job of giving fair feedback that both encouraged what was working and helped you fix things that needed to be worked on. I found the teachers to have no ego and there to be no favoritism which is something I found annoying in some previous LA acting classes. All in all, if you have the time, energy and curiosity to commit to it, this class will help you grow immensely and hone your artistic voice.

Also this studio comes off as prestigious, they make you retake the class if the teacher thinks you aren't good enough to be in the second or third level. Acting isn't something that is able to be graded in a traditional learning model, it's art, art is up to anyone's own interpretation. If you truly want to make this place a safe place to evolve and practice the craft of acting, I recommend taking a strong look into fixing this 'grading' scale and actually be more hands on with the students and improve on what they are good at instead of throwing them into the deep end of something they have no idea of how to portray and then bury them for it. To me this form of retaking courses comes off as sort of a scam business model, each course is close to $500, hold at least 2 kids back and make them retake the class and now they paid $1000 to take the same class again. I've taken classes around the city and this model certainly seemed low class. This establishment has nice bathrooms though.

I am teacher at this school and I'm writing this review from that perspective…read more I worked here part-time for a couple years (2011-13) when the school was still very young and in it's initial location. It was a positive and supportive place then. I returned in the fall of 2019 and I have never been happier and felt more supported in any work environment. I am so glad to have come back. With the time away, I can readily see how the school has grown and improved. I have never worked at an educational institution that is so deeply committed to equity and inclusion, where the entire faculty is actively, enthusiastically, and humbly engaged in discussions around that. My understanding and appreciation of the world is being nourished here. I have been supported with funding for many professional development workshops. I have been regularly supported by my colleagues, who really support each other with positive energy, ideas, discussions, brain storming, helping hands, and challenging each other to strive for better and better. At the heart of it all is a focus on the children and the understanding that we are the best teachers when we are supported day-to-day and in professional development, and when we are growing as human beings and striving as much as we ask the children to do.

Completely…read moreshocking that a school with female principal and vice principal provide so little support for the girls sports. The only time you will see them at a female sporting event is if there is another event happening simultaneously or afterward - so they make an appearance. The new Athletic Director (and boys baseball coach) Cott...there is not a shred of evidence that he cares in the slightest. Good place to learn and grow....and I guess it is a great example of what the young ladies may unfortunately face the rest of their lives.
