Orientation folder :] just a little peek for ya!

When I first walked on campus my eyes where pleased by how clean and orderly everything was. Now it's still a new place but maintenance keeps up around the place, you can tell. The staff members & security were all helpful people. As a first time student the registration process went super smooth for me. First visit I came for orientation, got the chance to meet advisors, & verify my FAFSA information which by the way went easy peesy . Now since I didn't take my test the same day I felt I had to practice a little more. By the second visit (5 days later) I went to the school for my COMPASS test, scheduling my classes, & ordering my books online, so all in one days time I was there for about 4-5 hours. Advisors were very honest about the instructors on how well they handle their class which was an A+ for me, & they make sure the time for your classes is feasible for you as long as it's available. I also realize not every individual has a smooth process but overall the staff members of Kennedy King were most helpful in all they can do to assist incoming students. I noticed while roaming the halls when you first enter you'll see papers on pin boards or in the main hall on racks, keep an eye out for super useful information. I got a couple of good grabs on those flyers that was beneficial for me. Make sure you do all of your research on this school & follow the social media of "City Colleges of Chicago" it'll be good for you in the long run. I promise! Good luck to those considering Kennedy King College! #CityCollegesofChicago #KennedyKingCollege #CCCYelp

Ask the Community - Kennedy-King College

Is it safe to take CTA Green Line to Kennedy King or are there any precautions that should be taken? I love the idea of going to this college but I have no car so CTA would be my only option.

This area is on the rise, but it is still in the Englewood area. Treat the area as you would any other economically repressed area of Chicago. Please be careful.

It is a state of the art facility with everything you can just about think of, and that's just for the students. They also have an incubator kitchen that you can arrange to use for anywhere between 7-12 dollars an hour, just in case you were thinking about starting your own catering company. The staff is very well trained and proffesional. I was comparing the resumes of the Washburne staff as opposed to the kendall college staff and was actually pleased to find out the Washburne staff has either more experience in high quality fine dining establishments, and/or higher education than a majority of the staff at kendall. http://kennedyking.ccc.edu/washburne/staff.asp The education recieved there is more hands on than most culinary schools in the nation, and that is without boosting the tuition to rediculous amounts. In total for the associates in culinary arts is around 14,000. Which is also one of the best in the nation for culinary arts. Also students are taught from the same text as the Culinary Institute of America which is considered the best culinary school in the nation. The provost for washburne was an Associate Vice-President at the CIA. Washburne provides a very quality education without making you go broke.

Offering a competitive culinary education to low income residents of the city of Chicago as well as students seeking a great culinary education, numerous scholarships are awarded every year ranging from small grants for shoes and equipment to full tuition reimbursement. The school has moved to the South Shore Cultural Center, a gorgeous building restored to its close-to-original grandeur. The cuinary school has opened up a restaurant to showcase the students' cooking: The Parrot Cage Restaurant. Although I have not been to the restaurant, I attended their 9th annual showcase, which was as impressive as the cooking was good. The students really did it up, serving up Japanese-influenced favorites from Black Cod with Miso Sauce to a very tender teriyaki chicken. In the future, I hope to support Washburne with my own donation in the future. To learn more: http://kennedyking.ccc.edu/washburne/parrot_cage/home.html
