Last weekend I was lucky enough to attend a entrepreneurship seminar. The seminar was hosted by City of Chicago's own Kennedy King community college. My first time actually coming to this college. I have a tenant community college before at Malcolm x and a couple classes at daily first time and I believe it has been renovated. It was actually on the weekend so I really didn't get to see it a normal typical day when school was in session. But I love that they had a nice lecture hall and massive conference rooms. i did not like how i was spoken to by a staff member. you do not have to kiss nobodies behind just to get help. if you do not want to help then move it over to the supervisor. simple as that. the rudest remark this lady made was, "thats a personal problem" but you are asking all the personal questions. i will be also following up with whoever handles complaints for this college. ​i do not care if you worked there 20 years. wrong is wrong. & not wonder people are mean when they call because her thought is you want me to help so you need to be nice to me. you are not the only person who works in that office and i will not stop until i get a personnel who is over you. i will not stop until someone more caring can work. i believe ahe called back because i wanted a supervisor not the fact that she so graciously wanted to help. if you do not to hear the story to get a better understanding then please do not speake to no family whose been through problems. & i'm speaking on whoever ms. thomas is. i would like to deal with someone else or a supervisor. i had to ger involved because she didn't fully explain a thing and noone listened to my brother. read more

My program, Addictions Studies moved to Kennedy King College from Harold Washington College back in Fall 2016, resulting in me transferring to this campus. Most of the classes I took on this campus pertained to the degree I pursued which were mostly social work, mental health and a child development class. Kennedy King College is a very relaxed environment and the classroom sizes are intimate which gives you opportunities to get to know your classmates and more time with the professors. The social work and mental health professors I have had are very knowledgeable because most still work in the fields they are teaching. And as semesters went by, I regularly found myself returning to old valid notes in realization of how amazing my social work, and mental health professors were in preparation. Most of the books we utilized were up-to-date with the books used at Chicago State University or Governor State University. As for the staff, I have not encountered many rude staff members. For the most part, the onse I have encountered are laid back and down to earth, but you still have the few that are not the friendliest. Like any other college campus you will have students that are not as serious in their studies in comparison to others, such as seeming like it is a high school reunion versus putting in the work in the library or computer lab to get studies done. Do not be the one! Get the work done and move on! If I can give any advice to any new students, I would say research the program you want to study and the classes you need to take that are part of it. And always make sure your FASFA is submitted prior to completing an application because it will make things somewhat smoother once you enter the campus. It will seem like a rough ride, but you will get the hang of the process, as far as where online to choose classes and once you visit campus who to see. The Veteran Services Center is nowhere near what I have experienced at Harold Washington College, but it is ok! I think that it is because Harold Washington College has more veterans on campus and younger versus Kennedy King College, so more work is put into the program. Other than that, I have not had any issues with my Post 911 nor Illinois Veterans Grant paperwork being submitted. Located on the campus is a pool, gym, and a cafeteria with reasonably priced foods, which I may have shared pictures of. I cannot speak about the pool, but the gym is very nice! It is equipped with enough workout stations that will assist you with staying fit during the semester. I loved working out in-between class because it helped me clear my mind going into class, plus relieved that the workout is done. All, the pool, gym, and cafeteria are located in the 'W' building. The college sits right outside of CTA Halsted and has a Divvy bike share, if that's your thing! There is also a huge parking lot, if you wish to drive to campus. Kennedy King College is not a bad school, however, the area may be sketchy during the evening hours, but I have not encountered anything crazy as of yet! I think many students avoid taking classes here due to the campus being in Englewood, but I assure you there is not anything to worry about, as long as you are not up to no good off campus you will have a great time at Kennedy King College. When I first walked on campus my eyes where pleased by how clean and orderly everything was. Now it's still a new place but maintenance keeps up around the place, you can tell. The staff members & security were all helpful people. As a first time student the registration process went super smooth for me. First visit I came for orientation, got the chance to meet advisors, & verify my FAFSA information which by the way went easy peesy . Now since I didn't take my test the same day I felt I had to practice a little more. By the second visit (5 days later) I went to the school for my COMPASS test, scheduling my classes, & ordering my books online, so all in one days time I was there for about 4-5 hours. Advisors were very honest about the instructors on how well they handle their class which was an A+ for me, & they make sure the time for your classes is feasible for you as long as it's available. I also realize not every individual has a smooth process but overall the staff members of Kennedy King were most helpful in all they can do to assist incoming students. I noticed while roaming the halls when you first enter you'll see papers on pin boards or in the main hall on racks, keep an eye out for super useful information. I got a couple of good grabs on those flyers that was beneficial for me. Make sure you do all of your research on this school & follow the social media of "City Colleges of Chicago" it'll be good for you in the long run. I promise! This school has been nothing but a hassle in regards to registering for classes. I've been trying to get an issue solved for my niece to continue her education here and NO ONE has responded to her emails or phone calls. The virtual chats have NOT been helpful in resolving this issue and it's up to the dean at this point to help out. This issue has been ongoing for A MONTH and now my niece has been told she won't be able to attend by one of the advisors because of errors done because of city college employees. I'm literally sick to my stomach she will have to sit out a whole semester because of mistakes not done on her part. I will not recommend this school to ANYONE ELSE and I'll make sure to write this same review to let any prospective students know they truly DONT care about the students success. read more

The financial aid office released a direct federal subsidized Stanford loan to me that I did not qualify for in the Fall of 2015. They failed to notify me regarding an over award. I could've simply given it back. I just found out this year 2017 that I owe a debt. Now they won't release my transcripts until the debt is fully paid. I didn't accumulate this debt. Their office put me in debt. Also as student of CCC I have a right to know if I owe debt. This in the CCC student's handbook. read more

THe school has just moved to a new location which is beautiful and Kennedy King is very much now a "modern" college. My professors are all great and obviously not there for just a paycheck. The only reason I am not giving KKC 5 stars is because the lack of organization and the horrendous attitudes of a lot of the staff. While there are quite few staff members that are excellent and definitely above and beyond. I have encountered a few that attempted to make me and others feel "Stupid" during registration becuause as first time students we were unsure of the process. If the district was to get rid of these bad seeds, I would say that this school would get 5 stars and above. read more

Stay away!! Enrolling as a 1st time student is a NIGHTMARE. First, no one in the registrar or admissions office will answer the phone. Not at 9am on a Monday, 4pm on a Thursday or anytime in between. In the rare event that you can find a human to speak with, they will only tell you that you have to come to their campus to get any information - even if it's a 3 hour drive. Second, my boyfriend was told he was ready to start for the summer. We didn't hear anything so made the drive to find out why. Oh, now he can't start til the fall because they forgot to have him take a placement test. Now, with 1 week til classes are scheduled to start, we haven't received a single letter regarding his classes. Not a welcome letter, not a bill, not a thing. Of course, no one will tell us over the phone why so now we'll have to make a 5th 3-hour drive to probably find out they forgot one small detail in the admissions process. What a joke! Please don't waste your time here, we wouldn't but this is the only program around for the job he wants to get. read more

I atteneded KKC in 2009-2010 and it was a remarkable experience. The facilities are better then those at Illinois Institute of Technology! Their computers were up to date and had plentiful resources in their library system. Also, the CTA Halsted Green Line is an extremely convenient part of KKC. The professors are very supportive (to the students that actually want to learn) and are helpful and knowledgeable. All in all, this college is extremely affordable, has decent basketball team and has good people running the show. I hope they continue to get more funding and grow in the science/technology department and wish them more success. read more
