Unreliable, unprofessional, and disappointing. I was excited to work with Alona based on her previous reviews and beautiful portfolio. Unfortunately, her communication from the start was spotty at best and required excessive prompting on my end. She repeatedly promised quotes and proposals by specific dates and failed to follow through. While I understand that wedding season is busy, this does not excuse consistently poor communication and lack of follow-through when working with clients who are planning such important events. To illustrate, here's a brief timeline: 5/28: Alona emails me in response to an inquiry submitted to her website, asking when I'll be available for a phone consultation. I reply same-day with my availability. 6/8: No response; I follow up. 6/9: She offers a phone consultation for 6/10. 6/10: Phone consultation; she promises a proposal by the next day. 6/12: No proposal; I follow up. She promises to send by 6/13. 6/16: Still nothing; I follow up again. 6/17: Finally receive a proposal. 6/19 - 6/22: Back-and-forth revisions; budget and design issues arise. 6/24: I follow up via phone and text after no response. Still no reply as of 7/2. In the end, I chose to move forward with another florist whose communication, professionalism, and enthusiasm gave me far more peace of mind. I firmly do not recommend working with Alona if you value reliability and clear communication during your wedding planning process. read more

CLASSIC / BOHO / COASTAL WEDDING VIBES - CHECK! It was the absolute pleasure working with Alona for our wedding floral needs. After vetting 18 floral vendors (yes, 18!!!), Alona came in the strongest and was able to understand our vision the most. She was very easy to talk to on the phone as well as over email. Over the course of almost 14 months of wedding planning, there were times when I had to reach out to her and update our floral count. Alona did not give us a hard time about the updates at all or make it seem as if she was annoyed, unlike how other florists were while I was just vetting them! Our floral vibes were to be basically all white roses, baby's breath, with some boho touches to the arrangements. My initial bridal bouquet incorporated white roses and a few orchids. The biggest painpoint for us was having to lock in the best deal despite how many boutonnieres and corsages we needed for our larger (FIlipino traditional) wedding. Not only did Alona come in the closest to our floral budget, on the day of the wedding, she surprised me with absolutely beautiful touches of white peonies and carnations to my bouquet at no additional cost! Additionally, the bouquets for each of the tables as well as on our wedding cake were full and fresh looking. All of our guests complimented how beautiful the flowers were and wanted to take an arrangement home! I cannot recommend Alona enough for your wedding florals. I'm so disappointed by this vendor. The first interactions went well enough. Got a quote a year+ prior to my wedding and Alona was kind and responsive. As the date neared, I wanted to update her to let her know that we would be needing fewer items as our actual guest count was lower than expected. She proceeded to respond saying that because I changed from the original quote that she would need to "update the pricing," which included essentially doubling the cost of the flowers from the original quote. When I asked if I could just go back to the original quote, she refused, saying that the costs had increased because of COVID. COVID affected businesses and costs. I can accept that. But, it was the fact that she used this excuse to double the price one week before the final payment was due was unacceptable. She told me I was free to find another vendor to provide the flowers. But with only less than a couple months before my wedding, she essentially knew that would be impossible. If she had simply communicated this increase with more advanced notice, it probably would have been fine and we would have still kept her on as our florist. But because she didn't, it seemed like she was just waiting for any excuse to up the prices and would have done it with even LESS notice, had I not tried to update the items when I did. Super unprofessional and seemingly underhanded. I ended up staying with her because there was no time to find an alternative. And on top of the price increase, the centerpieces provided were not correct according to what we had discussed. read more

Unlike other florists who I had met with who were really pushing for expensive arrangements that were not at all what I had described, Alona really listened to what I wanted, what my budget was, and what my logistical needs were. She perfectly blended my vision with her personal style. And she was so sweet and accommodating! We met via phone calls and FaceTime a few times before the big day since I couldn't make the drive up to her studio in Encinitas. She was very responsive via email and updated the proposal several times as needed. She even made a mock centerpiece arrangement the month before my wedding so that I could see what the flowers would generally look like. Please read if you are not in the SD area & considering Chic Flowers/Alona for your wedding! The short version- Chic Flowers charged us $2,000 for mandap/gazebo florals, 8 centerpieces, cake flowers, & aisle flowers-but delivered the tiniest saddest centerpieces where the floral foam was still visible. (I have included pictures of all that we were provided & I honestly do not feel it was worth $2,000 but please, correct me if I'm wrong.) My husband and I feel disappointed, & honestly kind of ripped-off. The centerpieces provided really ruined the vision I had for my wedding reception. Alona was also not the easiest to communicate with and get examples of what exactly we'd be provided in lieu of an in person consultation. The long version- Alona is based in the San Diego area & my wedding was in Orange County. I really liked her work that I saw on her Instagram so after speaking with her as well as other local florists, I chose to go with Chic Flowers despite not having an in person consultation or seeing a sample of what she would be doing for us in person (which was definitely my mistake). I did however ask her multiple times over the phone & on text to send me an example of what our centerpieces will look like so I know what size & how full they're going to be. She sent me something that looks nothing like what she delivered. My wedding was originally scheduled for Aug 2021, due to Covid we had to reschedule for Feb 2022. Initially (before we paid/signed anything with Alona) she was really communicative and assured us that we would get exactly what we asked for in terms of florals. She also accommodated our postponement and moved our deposit, etc over. 2 months prior to our wedding I sent her an email confirming our dates as well as ideas & mentioned that we will be changing our color scheme from red, pink, fuchsia, & coral to red, pink, fuchsia & white. Alona proceeded to tell me that would cost more money, at this point I had paid more than half the total amount owed and hadn't budgeted for an additional cost for florals-which I let her know. She then basically told me I can either pay the additional charge or find a different florist as she won't work on my wedding if its not worth it for her. I agreed as I felt 2 months would have been super short notice for any florist & I really couldn't afford to not have flowers at my wedding. This interaction definitely made me feel uneasy but I figured at least the extra cost would ensure she would show up & provide me with the beautiful, big floral arrangements she promised. I then realized we only had 8 centerpieces for 13 tables (which again was my bad for not noticing sooner) had my wedding coordinator place long stem candle holders with candles on the tables without flowers and figured the lush greenery-filled centerpieces on every alternating table would draw peoples eyes. I was definitely wrong in thinking that. The day of the wedding Alona & her assistant showed up, set up the florals on the mandap (structure used in hindu wedding ceremonies) which to her credit looked great, and were to be transferred to our sweetheart table for the reception. When it came time, she moved the florals to the reception area & set up the centerpieces-which I didn't see until I made my entrance at the reception. I was severely disappointed in the way the centerpieces looked- the size was way smaller than the reference pictures I provided & what we had discussed & they were not full at all, and had no greenery even though Alona ensured me they would be "big and beautiful" with "lots of greenery". You could see the green floral foam when looking at the centerpieces & they just looked tiny and not what we were promised at all. We also were very disappointed in the end by our centerpieces and didn't feel like the florals we received were worth $2,000. I have included the pictures of all the floral aspects of our wedding. The flowers were the only decor in our reception as it was in a ballroom & we didn't want too many elements overpowering its grand scale-but it definitely looked empty & not at all what I envisioned. I definitely feel like this all could have been avoided if I went with a local florist & was more on top of things such as an in person consultation and continually asking to see an exact sample of what we would be getting the day of. I however, also feel Chic Flowers could have been better at communicating, and providing what they promised. Maybe if you're a more local bride Alona is the florist for you, but if you're outside the San Diego area & cannot consult with her in person, I suggest going with someone local to your venue! I'm giving 2 stars because I think 1 star is harsh for any business & I did like our ceremony flowers. read more

Chic flowers did a fantastic job with the flowers for my husband and my outdoor wedding by the ocean. We are from out of town, so we didn't spend much time with Alona ahead of time -- all of our communication was via email and one phone call. She asked for an idea of our vision (which was a lot of blush and white, farmhouse-style arrangements, a pretty popular style right now). Alona had no problem taking my vague ideas and creating a detailed proposal. The cost she proposed was also lower than the other proposal I had gotten (my budget for flowers was $2k, and we ended up spending about that, plus rentals and candles). I didn't have mocks of anything made, but again I think what I was looking for was pretty popular now, and in line with many of the pictures on her website. We had farmhouse tables that Alona and her team made these beautiful eucalyptus garlands for, with rose arrangements scattered throughout. We were even able to get pillar candles with glass containers from her, which I was stressing out a bit about before. Everything turned out absolutely gorgeous. I had a very tight budget, and was upfront with Alona about what I was looking to spend. She worked with me to use budget-friendly options, but was still able to incorporate my favorite kinds of flowers. Upon our initial interaction, Alona asked me to send her some examples of what I would like my bouquet and boutonnieres to look like. She was immediately able to understand what I was looking for and created a detailed proposal. As we got closer to the wedding, she called to let me know that she may not be able to get some of the flowers we initially agreed upon (peonies) due to short supply and higher cost, asked if I was alright with using different flowers, and offered some great replacement options. I liked that she checked in with me on those details. She was also flexible with small last minute changes (for example, my fiance asked if he could add a succulent to his boutonniere). Alona was very responsive to these requests and everything turned out exactly as I had asked. Alona was also so helpful with my centerpieces. I was planning to do them myself, but she said she would do them for a very reasonable cost, and would also bring all of them to the venue and set them up for me. After doing some research I realized it would have been more expensive for me to do them myself, and definitely more stressful! She made them more beautiful then I could have ever done - everyone at the wedding raved about them and were excited to take them home! Alona always had my budget in mind and never tried to sell me on something she knew I didn't need. I really appreciated that as a bride - for anyone who is planning a wedding, you know that most vendors here the word "wedding" and immediately try to take advantage and upsell you on just about everything. Alona wasn't this way, and even made us a beautiful garland for our sweetheart table out of extra eucalyptus she had - at no extra charge. I highly recommend choosing Chic Flowers for your floral design needs for any occasion! Upon meeting Alona, I knew that I could entrust my wedding flowers to her. What an amazing experience working with Alona. I am beyond thrilled that I found her and chose to work with her. I planned my wedding from Chicago, so you can imagine the stresses with that. But, after sending her a few photos of what I want she knew exactly what ambience I was going for. I flew into Carlsbad and met her at the wholesale flower shop to pick out colors and some flowers I really like. She went far and beyond! The day of our wedding, she brought our bridal bouquets to my suite and I wanted to add a little more greenery. She said no problem. Left and came back with exactly what I envisioned. It was perfect. My wedding consisted of 22 tables and 250 people. EVERYONE raved about the flowers! Our floral arch was soooo pretty! I wanted to take it home with me. Everyone actually took some flowers home because they loved them so much. Alona and her staff were very very efficient with time as well. They had to break down the arch, bring it to another venue 10 mins away, and set it up before our reception started. Needless to say, it was done in time and everything was perfect. Flowers are very fresh and beautiful! Alona is amazing and I would highly recommend her as your florist. I would say you are making a mistake if you do not hire her. I am so heartbroken. I was prepared to write a raving review but unfortunately, this is not it. As this is a platform for clients and vendors alike, I feel it is my responsibility to share this unhappy experience as I would hate for this to happen to other couples on their wedding day. We hired Chic Flowers February of this year for our October wedding. I had multiple lovely conversations with Alona and together we designed gorgeous flowers for the day. My wedding coordinators took over correspondence a month prior to the wedding. They provided her with several revisions to the day of timeline, each with our venue's name and address. They also confirmed the service with her days leading up to the wedding. Unfortunately, Alona NO-SHOWED on the wedding day. She emailed me the next day stating her team went to the incorrect venue, however, there is no venue called "The Hacienda" in San Diego and even if there were, the florist and her team had the venue name and venue address noted at the top of their own contract. Separately, when my coordinators called her, they said it sounded like she was at home and there was clearly a child you could hear in the background. When they asked her if she forgot that she was obligated to deliver the flowers to a wedding that day she admitted that she did forget. While her work is gorgeous we simply caution you not to hire her to deliver outside of San Diego, even though that is a service offered and we happily paid for. While we did get a refund we were without flowers of any kind on the day. read more

Chic Flowers did an amazing job with our flower arrangements for our (same-sex) wedding. Alona listened to our concerns and took our request in terms of color, style, and overall theme. After a few emails with pictures and ideas, we met with her at her studio and continued the planning process. The price was affordable and paid through Venmo. On the day of our wedding, they were quick to set up and breakdown after the wedding. We highly recommend Chic Flowers to anyone in need of flower arrangements.
