Bacon + Beer = Amazing Time On Sunday 4/30 we participated in the Chicago Beer Experience Beer & Bacon tour. Our tour guide was Lee, he was an enthusiastic guy who was very welcoming and had so much passion and knowledge for all of the beers and Bacon. Not to mention all of the historical facts that he provided about Chicago. About the bars: All of the bars that participated on the tour were very clean, the staff was amazing and the beer varieties we tried were awesome! This tour was amazing, highly recommended!

Top to bottom an awesome tour. The guides (Luke and Bruce, I think?) were extremely knowledgeable, fun, personable, smart, and just awesome to talk to. The price for the tour was totally reasonable. The bacon/beer pairings at Paddy's were very cool. My only complaints are: - I wish there was more local beer to be had and featured. - There were so many hoppy IPA type beers, my palate was blown instantly and it was hard to taste much else after so many powerful beers. Overall, awesome way to spend an afternoon in Chicago!

For out of towners looking for a unique Chicago experience or city dwellers looking for a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon/evening, look no further-Chicago Beer Experience is it! We started at Harrigan's in Lincoln Park where we met our AMAZING tour guide Ariana and checked in. Once everyone on the tour arrived the beer pouring commenced. The owner of Harrigan's, a great guy from Dublin, poured our beers and told us about the perfect Guinness pouring technique while Ariana gave us some great Chicago history. After 4 tastes here we head over to Paddy Long's for beer and bacon pairings-yes, you heard me-beer and bacon-hello HEAVEN! After more great beers and history we headed to Bodega Ramos, a cute little wine shop with tons of great craft beers as well. Ariana gave us a brief run down of the brewing process and we got to smell different types of barley and hops while we tasted our 4 beers at this stop. Next we headed to Delilah's for more amazing beers and the discovery of what may be my new favorite bar in the city. They have THE best whiskey selection in the city as well as tons of craft beers on tap. At this point the group was getting pretty rowdy and everyone was having a great time. Ariana (did I mention she was amazing!) gave us some more great tidbits about Chicago beer history and then we parted ways to continue our nights. I cannot recommend this tour enough, they also let us know that they will be starting a new tour soon and we cannot wait!

This tour is great for both beer advocates and non. Vince was a great tour guide and very knowledgeable about the beers and city. Made the tour fun at every stop. Also helped finding other great spots to hang out in the city. Definitely recommend. Beer folk need to sign up for this !! Salainté!!! We went on Sin &Suds tour

My wife did this tour a couple years ago and highly recommended it, but I wasn't especially interested because I had also gone to school here and figured I knew enough about Hyde Park already. However, she insisted that it would be worth our while and so I agreed to climb on the bus. And it was the absolutely right decision, because the tour was excellent. In fact, it wasn't just a tour of Hyde Park. It included the surrounding neighborhoods of Washington Park, Kenwood, Jackson Park, and Woodlawn. Since this was a UChicago sponsored event much of the information related to the University's investment and involvement in the area. Our tour guide and founder of Chicago Detours, Amanda, is herself a graduate of UChicago and thus she had some additional insight into the relationship with the community. Though the 75-minute tour felt a little slow-going at times, there was much to learn about the vibrant but sometimes troubled history of the area. Amanda has tremendous knowledge and the excursion was both fascinating and entertaining. I can imagine that Chicago Detours would have equally interesting tours of other neighborhoods in this diverse city.

Holy stroke of genius! Why didn't I think of this? Crap…read more It was my friend's 28th birthday and she was growing tired of the same ol club scene. Honestly, me too. I was thinking about blowing her off if she was going to tell me to meet her at a club, possibly would have flipped out on her. Luckily, she saved herself by finding this cool idea. So she purchased tickets and rounded up the troops. Some of us were beer aficionados, some not. Never fret, they had something for everyone. There is this cool party bus that seats about 14 and they play cool music. They were setting the stage perfectly for a Brew Bus tour. The tour began at Goose Island where we met Kevin and Chris. Two of the most beer educated and friendly guys you could ever meet. It was so refreshing to see the founders of that company taking time out to run the tour and interact with patrons of Chicago Brew Bus Tours. I can only wish for that type of customer service in other places. The Brew Bus took us to Moonshine and Haymarket. We had the pleasure to take tours of the various brewing facilities and how each special blend is made. It's really awesome to drink the actual beer as you see it being made; you appreciate beer that much more. The facilities the beer was being made was so advanced and complex...I am glad I left it to the Brew Bus staff to school me on it whilst I drank. The best part of the tours was the tastings afterwards. I have been to wine tours before and had little sips of wines here and there. This was totally different. LOTS of BEER, FREQUENTLY. I like the words beer and frequently in the same sentence. Sounds good, aye? The Brew bus tour is genius because you can still keep your friends together without having to worry about designated drivers and such. Chicago Brew Bus takes care of it all. In Summary, Awesome trip, awesome owners/tour guides, cool bus, cool music, great tasting beer, and memories with friends that will last a lifetime. My friends and I are already recommending this place to others and I extend that to you. You will have a ball. I came out of that tour knowing much more about crafting brews and loving beer even though I wasn't too much of a beer gal. The tickets are super reasonable which is a godsend in this town. Well worth the money for the good times alone. Can't wait to do it again with a different set of friends. Cheers Chicago Brew Bus!

We started at Goose Island, then went to Haymarke Brewery next and ended at Moonshine. Each place was unique and fun in its own way. And the quality of beer at each was top-notch..or so my boyfriend said. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but even I found a few that I truly enjoyed (the pumpkin ale at Goose Island, for one). The tour guides also set me up with a beer cocktail and a mojito, free of charge, knowing I wasn't a huge fan of beer. The tour guides couldn't have been nicer. They were incredibly friendly and laid-back, and had a significant amount of knowledge about beer. They shared some history of Chicago brewing in between breweries. Fun facts - not boring babble. We toured the brewing process at Haymarket and also ordered food there. But even if you don't to get food, they stock the bus with chips so you can refuel in beween stops. Awesome. I HIGHLY recommend this tour. It's fun to do as a couple or with a group of friends. We ended up meeting some pretty awesome people in the process, too, which is always fun in a big city. This tour has everything you want, and nothing you don't. We even stayed an extra hour at the last place, since we were the last tour of the day, and wanted to order more the beers we sampled. DO THIS TOUR!

Out of all the tours I've done, I learned the most of Chicago history here. We not only stopped off at food locations but also at historic landmarks (i.e. The Drake hotel). It was a rainy AND windy Chicago Sunday, but despite the weather I had an awesome time! Lynn did a really great job with our tour and handled the weather situation without difficulty. What a great easy going guy! We visited: --Pizano's Pizza (I may have found my new favorite pizza spot. The deep dish and thin crust pizza were delicious! I am still trying to figure out how they get that crust so crispy!) --Sarah's (The brownie was definitely good...I've never met a bad brownie, but it was not the best I've had) --Downtown Dog's (Good Chicago hot dog--stay away from those peppers!) --Heaven on Seven (The gumbo was really delicious! I may have to come back to try more food!) --Billy Goat Tavern & Grill (I've lived in Chicago for over 4 years and FINALLY made it to this place! Sadly, the cheeseburger was not good. But I enjoyed learning about the history of the Original Tavern and the Billy Goat. Definitely a Chicago tourist spot to visit, if not eat at) --The Purple Pig (I've been wanting to check this place out too!!! That strawberry ice cream IS DELICIOUS!!!!! It tasted like something from my childhood!!! Very nostalgic for me! The outdoor seating was very nice! I enjoyed visiting ALL the locations on our tour, but my favorite EATERIES were Pizano's, Heaven on Seven, and The Purple Pig. For $44 you definitely get your money's worth if not more. The tour guarantees enough for lunch, but I can tell you that you'll be filled up for dinner too!! LOTS OF FOOD to keep you full. I started cramping towards the end from eating so much!! Just a note for those that decide to come, I recommend NOT driving. Your parking meter will expire. The tour is longer than 2 hours and the tour does not end where it begins. Also, the tour is designed for sit down dining so that you will always have a nice comfortable seat and a nice ICE cold drink (so you're not drinking the warm water you've been carrying around). The tour is NOT rushed at all which I enjoyed A LOT. You can also shop during the tour stops too, which many food tours don't allow. The duration of my tour was from 11am to 2:45pm. I recommend keeping your schedule for the entire day open so that you don't feel rushed to get somewhere else. I would definitely recommend this tour to my friends!
