We went for my daughter's 26th birthday party, there were 10 of us family and friends. Even "grandpa" went! WHAT A BLAST!!! Everyone loved it! I haven't picked a favorite team yet (It's a toss up between the "Hell's Belles" and the "Double Crossers". Sorry girls but I just can't pick one!! But my husband was VERY fond of the "Double Crossers". In particular, Nina Millimeter" (I think it was the guns on her tush)!!! The birthday girl loved "Kola Loca" of "The Fury" and even got her autograph on a poster that read "blood is the new pink"! LOVE IT!! These girls are "tough" athletes. I was worn out just watching them! We understood the rules pretty fast, the announcers were excellent and fun! Beer, snacks, and team merchandise are available at the stadium. There's a "Party Bus" that meets at the Cobra Lounge and takes you to the Cicero Stadium. Next time, I think my husband and I will "do" the bus (even though we'll probably be the oldest ones on there)!!!

I have to admit that after sitting through a game I still don't understand roller derby, but then again I'm still trying to figure out the rules of football. But these gals wear fun outfits, sparkly makeup, and have some seriously amazing coordination skills! It all looks so fun, well besides the falling down a lot part. My only regret is that I didn't buy a Hells Belles red tee, but I know I"ll be back to get one. Go Hell's Belles!

I guess If you play hockey, Johnny's West is the place to go in Chicago. I don't play hockey, so…read morethis was the first time for me hearing about this place. My godson is a goalie on the Ice Doggs, a kid's team and was playing a game there on a Saturday. Most of his games are on days/times that I can't make, so I was happy to be able to see him live. The facility has underground parking, but I can see that it can fill up quickly as there are games going on all day and well into the night. As a matter of fact, when we were leaving, there were cars already sitting there waiting for folks from the last game to leave. Cost to park is $2 and they do take wallet payments. It was nice that we could park in the lot and enter directly into the building. The main rink was on the first floor as well as the locker rooms. Seating and the bar was on the second floor. Seating was bleacher style, but not too bad on the backside. The bar was pretty basic, just one white wine (Sauvignon Blanc), so I got a vodka and ginger ale with some lime juice...$8 which was not bad. Bartender was nice and they are cashless for payment but prefer cash for tips. The rink is affiliated with the Blackhawks, so there was a sign that stated the rink is an official partner of theirs. As for the game, I had so much fun watching my godson get 20 saves and his team won, 9-1 over the home team. The players looked as good as any adult skater and were skating as if on silk. There was one player that did a great hip check and got a penalty, but I shook his hand later in the locker room to tell him it had been executed excellently, even if it was not allowed. We went in to see my godson in the locker room, which was okay looking, clean. Didn't see any showers, but guessing they could be somewhere else? As we were leaving , there was an adult locker room next door and players suited up for their game. I could definitely come back to see my godson play here again, it was a good time

We were enrolled in beginner…read moreskating lessons for 2 sessions, I have to admit that my son is not really a skating kid, but this is not a reason for instructors' not helping him. My son walks fine on the ice, but the instructor didn't bother to get close to him, encourage him and challenge him to step out of his comfort zone to move faster. When we talked to the instructor, what they said is "then why other kids can skate?" I was so shocked to hear that, isn't it because the kids who need more help have to find another teacher who can really help them??!! My friend's son had the same situation and she warned me not to take Johnny's class because it's waste of time. I really regretted that I didn't listen to her advise as Johnny's is close to our home. So I would say, if your kid doesn't have fear on ice, it's ok to take their course, the instructor can give them a bit instruction. but if your kid's personality is very cautious, Johnny is definitely not a good choice. It's a waste of money.

There's another game in town…read more Unlike our city's baseball rivalry, you don't have to pledge your allegiance to one of our two local leagues; you can love them both, equally and unabashedly. In fact I saw several Rollers at the bout supporting not just the sport, but The Outfit. However, their recent admittance to the WFTDA might change that; I have an inkling there will be some cross-town bouts in the future, until then I'll remain Switzerland. The Outfit is how I imagine the Rollers about 3-4 seasons ago, before they were packing them in at UIC. There's something a little grittier about this team and I dig it. Two things that aren't different though are the diversity of the crowd and the hard-hitting roller girl-on-girl action from the likes of Queefer Sutherland, Suzie Crotchrot and their cohorts In case you're imagining something like G.L.O.W. on wheels or the theatrical, almost comical, women's roller derby that aired on weekends (at least when I was growing up); think again, this is real deal. No scripted routines; but real rules, real competition and real injuries. Most importantly these girls are skating because they love it, they're not paid performers. Check out the next home bout, it's a fun, cheap way to spend a Saturday evening. Just get there early, seating options are folding chairs or the floor and the front rows fill up fast. Details: Venue: Windy City Fieldhouse (next to the Elston Target) with FREE parking Tickets: $12 in advance, $15 at the door Beer: $3, cheaper if you buy beer tickets in increments of $10

The Roller Derby girls' names - Mon Dieu, really hilarious and imaginative. And the women themselves were really personable and very sweet to all the little kids who surrounded them like infatuated fanboys after the game, jostling each other for autographs - super cute!!! Removing reviews that are true just means that they are hiding from the truth and they are trying to keep the truth away from families that have no idea what kind of program they are running. Had I got a response from anybody in this organization about what occurred during the season then my ratings might have been different.
