Dr. Cohen is an incredible physician who sets a standard to which other neurologists could only hope to aspire. He is kind, empathic, and very competent. I have suffered from migraines for years and have tried so many medications for them. If anyone gets migraines then you understand how debilitating they can become. I had my first consultation with Dr. Cohen yesterday and was amazed at how attentive his front desk was from the moment I scheduled my appointment, checking in and checking out. I even got a follow up phone call from the nurse today! Dr. Cohen himself took the time to listen to my concerns and discuss treatments for my migraines. The McDonald's of emg tests. A long wait to get an appointment elsewhere & year of chronic nerve pain treatments brought me to Dr Cohen who spent 20 min (thorough tests are 1-3hrs) providing this painful test & offering all sorts of unsolicited medical advice without ever looking at my MRIs,X-rays or Northwestern Medical doctors notes. He also stated "It will take too much time to test all this" when reading my doctor's order & then recorded that I "waved" testing my left side as a "litmus" test as my doctor ordered. We only agreed to wait to test my left side towards end of appointment. Certainly it wasn't my fault his office didn't block off appropriate time to test what my Doctor clearly ordered, yet he blamed me in written results he shared with my doctors at Northwestern as well as saying I was "fine/healthy", which likely is because he can't seem to spend the appropriate amount of time to test his patients & may not be properly trained? FYI- muscle relaxers are to stop being taken 7days prior to testing or false results can occur. His office didn't tell me & so I was on muscle relaxers nightly until the night before. Also he does not work nor is affiliated with RUSH. He just rents space in their medical building for his private practice. So now instead of having a helpful, useful test, I'm stuck paying for a half-ass test that wasted my money, time, efforts & doctors order. Don't waste your time. read more

DON'T GO HERE WITH A CONCUSSION/mTBI!!! Getting ready to go back to work after a year of recovery from an mTBI, & can't close this chapter of my life without warning other patients about this man. He was the first neurologist I saw after my most recent concussion (I've had 4). He offered me no treatment of any kind, other than two medications I'd taken before ever coming to his office, neither of which I could take due to previous side effects. He told me "concussions are cumulative," and that I should be concerned about CTE (spoiler alert: the scientific literature and other, good neurologists do NOT agree with that assessment, it's most likely the result of thousands of subclinical hits, not a few concussions). He also declined to follow up on potential vascular irregularities in my brain, saying "if I did have them, I didn't want to know." Again, other neurologists disagree... I've now had the vascular irregularities evaluated (& they'll need to be re-evaluated periodically). Yet despite the fact "concussions are cumulative," and I was unable to function, surprisingly there was also "nothing wrong with me," as he signed off on me to go back to work with no restrictions after a little over a month. At that point, I tried to go back to work, but was still such a mess, I ended up with a new neurologist (+ a nurse case manager who was the real MVP). Finally I got the vision therapy and physical therapy I needed to actually get better from the "nothing" that was wrong with me. It took over a year (not a month) to recover from my concussion (not that it's over, I'm just so much better than I was, and grateful to be). But if I'd listened to Dr. Cohen, I'd have NEVER gotten better. Seek care elsewhere. read more

Zero stars! Do not! Schedule appointment with this office. The office and Dr Cohen are unprofessional and inconsiderate. I scheduled an appointment with this office 3 weeks ago as a new patient for today 12/16/22. Today at 11:38 am I received a missed phone call to confirm my appointment for 3pm. I called back at 1 pm to confirm I was on my way! Lady says okay thanks see you at 3pm. Mind you I left work early for this appointment . I get phone call around 1pm and women tells me that they had to cancel my appointment because I didn't reply in time to confirm a 3pm appointment. They gave my appointment to someone else! And said I would have to reschedule. Very inconsiderate and unprofessional. Thanks Dr Cohen and office you guys are terrible! read more

Doctor is very dismissive when you ask questions! Had the nerve to say "I HAVE OTHER PATIENTS" -I literally cried! Then, he's going to say in his broken English "why I make a lady cry?" Ummmmm let's see you just got done telling me I suffered a traumatic brain injury and I shouldn't be on the phone, TV or computer and that bible study and church was too stimulating for my brain! I ask what the medicine is for; his response "your symptoms"! Then, the medication wasn't approved by workman's comp insurance and the pharmacist tried to reach him with no luck! I put off writing this review because I kept hoping the doctor's office would right a very stressful situation. But after leaving multiple messages over the past few weeks with no return call, and after losing my job partially because of their delay, I do not expect the situation will be rectified. My new patient appointment was on 10/20/20 at the Oak Park office. I have Hashimotos, had covid-19 in April, and have been dealing with continued issues because of that. Initially I was pleased with with Dr. Cohen. He listens and has a good bedside manner. His recommendation was to run bloodwork, MRI, and to immediately begin a 5 day IV steroid treatment with a f/u on 11/3. I agreed because he said my insurance should cover it. I started IV treatment the next day at the Belmont office. The staff at Belmont is wonderful. Steroids do come with potential side effects. I expected to not feel my best for a day or two. However, after my final treatment on 10/25 I was unable to get out of bed for 3 days and walking became extremely difficult for me by Friday 10/30. I tried calling late morning on 10/30 to see if the doctor could see me or if I should go to the ER. No one answered, so I left a message explaining the situation. No one called back. I went to the ER and was admitted to the hospital for 2 days. I am not upset with the doctor if the steroid treatment exacerbated my condition - which is plausibly the case. I understood it was our first step in finding a solution. I am disappointed no one called me back. The main issues came at my apt at the Oak Park office on 11/3 - just TWO WEEKS after my first visit. When I arrived, the receptionist informed me that my insurance didn't cover $800 of the steroid treatments and that I would need to make a sizable payment that day. If I didn't, the doctor would refuse to see me. Because it was unexpected, I couldn't make the payment that day. I asked why I had not been notified before my apt took place and she could not give me an answer. I told her that I lived an hour away, had been in the hospital over the weekend, and was extremely frustrated that this was happening. I was asked to wait in the reception area and then shown to a treatment room after a few minutes. The receptionist came in and again said I had to make a sizable payment or else the doctor would not see me. When I asked why she had not called my insurance to verify what they paid out before the treatment, she very rudely told me that it wasn't her responsibility to verify patient benefits, it was the patients responsibility, and that she wasn't going back and forth with me. At that point I was on the verge of tears, very upset, and had to leave because I couldn't pay. Because I worked in healthcare, I know I have absolutely NO WAY of verifying costs myself because I don't know the providers billing codes nor how much they charge for a service. Every office has different pricing. I informed my employer of the situation because I had been unable to work and we were all waiting for answers. HR was extremely gracious and reached out to the Insurance company to get my deductible waived so all medical bills would be covered. The HR manager also spoke with a nurse at the doctor's office to explain the situation. The nurse told HR she would talk to the doctor and then call me. I never received a call. I have called the Oak Park office many times and left messages over the past couple of weeks. No one has contacted me. Because weeks have passed, I recently had to resign from my job because I could not go into work. That may not have happened if the doctor had tried to work with me. I have also requested my test results in the voice messages. Because they have refused to return my phone calls, they are essentially withholding my medical records from me which is a reportable HIPPA violation. I was never given online access for a patient portal from the MD's office. I am still unsure if the doctor is aware of everything that has happened or if the issues are with the receptionist at the Oak Park office. read more

I became a patient of Dr. Cohen at Chicago Neorological Services in May 2018 after I had an incident related to scuba diving . I'm extremely grateful for Dr. Cohen's care and expertise. The treatment went uneventfully and I fully recovered. The course of treatment required several visits but each time I was actually eager to see Dr. Cohen and his wonderful staff. I happened to be a doctor myself and can't emphasize enough the professionalism and the level of customer service at CNS. Highly recommend this clinic. read more

Dr Cohen was my neurologist for the last year. Suddenly this week, my prescriptions were unable to be filled. I tried to get in touch with ANYONE at their offices daily for the last week to absolutely no avail. I had to get an emergency supply of my Epilepsy medication. I still hadn't heard back after getting my emergency supply so I had to reach out to my PCP. Finally after hearing from them, not by phone, voicemail, but by an email, they told me I am no longer their patient and they will not see me. They are willing to risk their patients lives, likely while their sitting at home doing nothing. Don't give this terrifying practice your business. They will endanger your life. I am beside myself with my experience and Dr Cohen and everybody who works in this office should be ashamed of themselves. read more

Lenny canceled our appointment because we were a few minutes late due to the traffic. His secretary called us over the phone while we were in the parking lot and said that they couldn't accept us because we were late. When we explained why, she dismissed that as a reason and said we had to reschedule. We did not reschedule, we left the parking lot angry and went to a more competent and caring Dr. instead. BTW we could hear dr. cohen over the phone dictating what the secretary should say to us. He's a cruel individual who has no care for others, avoid at all costs. read more

Referred here by a Rush ER doctor for alarming new migraine symptoms. This is not my first neurologist. Imagine my surprise when the first thing I was asked for when booking the appointment was a credit card number! I was told that, without it, I would be double-booked with another patient and whoever arrived first would be seen first and the other person would have to wait. Besides my name and insurance information, this was literally all the assistant wanted to know. She never asked why I was coming in to see Dr. Cohen. Had the appointment. It was fine. He seemed to listen. He suggested both botox and cervical nerve block injections, and urged me to call my insurance to get it expedited. I set an appointment for two weeks later. In the meantime, I had some questions about the procedures, and placed a call to his office (left a voicemail.) Never returned the call. The next call I got was from the scheduling desk confirming my Thursday procedure. I said I hadn't heard from the doctor about my questions, and I needed him to call me before I could move forward. I cancelled the appointment. Two more weeks, no call. Left a third message (not sure why). Finally got a voicemail from his assistant, with a "I hear you have questions, call us." THEY NEVER PICK UP THE PHONE. The day I received that message, I was talking to a friend about neurologists, and it turned out that he'd also visited Dr. Cohen, and the assistant had screwed up the billing and then tried to blame my friend for it. My friend works in medical billing all day long. Today, I got an automated call "about my bill" that urges me to sign into the website, which has never worked for me. I'm betting money that they screwed something up and are going to send it to collections instead of actually putting a live person on the phone to make it right. Summary: Okay doctor if you can get in to see him, but the worst "office staff" ever encountered, no way would I undertake a lengthy course of treatment with this practice. read more

I've been going to the hyperberic center for about a month now. I have a wound that is not healing from long term radiation side effects. I was told hyperberic oxygen would help my healing process. Dr. Cohen was great and answered all of my questions. He also went over all my medications and medical history to make sure oxygen treatment was safe for me. The office also easily worked with my insurance to get everything approved. Cathy and Maureen are great. They sit with you the entire time you are in the oxygen chamber, so for those of you that are clausterphobice (like me!) there is always someone right there. It's easy to schedule to get in and they are very flexible. And in Chicago! I would highly recommend for whatever your needs are. read more
