    NEW Grilled BBQ Bacon sandwich
    J David H.

First time this Charlottesville CFA location located a mile plus off the highway and nearby the hospital. There is a light to enter and exit which is a huge plus. They offer a drive up, but only a single lane. The parking lot is also somewhat compact and may be challenging when peak busy like it was during my visit. I did a dine in. The staff was friendly and the ordering system smooth. I tried new BBQ grilled sandwich and a side fruit cup and water. The dining room and men's restroom were clean. Pretty much every table had customers and staff was on top of it. My order was delivered in just under 10 minutes. The sandwich was decent, but likely would not get again. The fruit with assorted strawberries, blueberries and apples fresh. This is a very well managed Chick Fil A. The drawback is when it's slammed.

This review is for 2017. Came on their annual dress like a cow day to get a free entree. Also happened to fall on 7-11 (hence the slurpees in the pics). This is a nice Chick-fil-a location. A standalone shop with a drive-thru. Service as expected from a Chick-fil-A. Food came quickly and hot. Plenty of seating inside and pretty clean. There are also some seat right outside the restaurant. For how busy it was that day, I was impressed with how quickly the food came and the quality. Sometimes you can get a sloppy sandwich or a cold one at Chick-fil-a. But not this time.

    FOOD!!

[As of July 6] On our way through Virginia, the wife was craving some of that Chick-fil-A. I had no choice but to submit...plus how could I say no to Chick-fil-A suace!? RESTAURANT: As expected, this famous eatery was super busy, well after the lunch rush. It's always a crazy time trying to navigate the parking lot in order to grab a spot. I can say the men's restroom was smaller than expected. The single stall and urinal will definitely be overwhelmed by the enormous amount of foot traffic that comes through the eatery. (Sorry ladies, I cannot speak on your restroom.) STAFF: Pleasant as always. Our cashier took our order with ease even though it was unusually loud in the lobby. Every member of the Chick-fil-A team was about their work. The food runner was quick about delivering the orders to awaiting customers. Even the custodial expert continued cleaning tables and clearing random messes like clockwork. FOOD: How can I complain about the food. It has been sent down by the heavens! We ordered the cool ranch wrap and the grilled chicken sandwich while sharing a large fry. Our meal made our stomachs very satisfied! If you are on the road through the Richmond area, go ahead and stop by for some eats. Don't think about it, just do it! fin.

So glad we got what we paid for...

Oh well. Third time was NOT the charm. If you saw my previous review of Dave's, you know I had a…read morebit of a love affair going on with this place. So, love woke me up today, and I decided that, despite changing my eating habits prior to my summer beach trip... I had to go to Dave's. Beach be damned. I needed Dave's. I mean, if you're going to break your diet, this is the only place to do it. I decided to go off script and try something different. Those little chicken bites looked appetizing and the new giant mozzarella stick was interesting. I ordered the chicken bites with the hot honey sauce... And one mozzarella thing with the very spicy sauce/flavor... The first thing that rubbed me the wrong way was that, right as I was starting to pay, the cashier decided to hit me with a 30 second diatribe about the tip button on the POS system. I just read an article about how tipping has gotten out of control in America. We used to tip for exceptional service. Now we tip because we breathe. I always overtip for exceptional service. Believe it or not, I am hypersensitive about being an African-American and how the entire race might be viewed if I don't tip well. So I tip well. But I don't like having to tip for a fast food meal. It's the same thing at Starbucks. If I pay $10 for a cup of coffee, I shouldn't have to pay another two dollars to the person who just happened to take my order. Let's be real, they don't even take our credit cards and swipe them anymore. We are doing all the work at the counter, so why tip them. When the guy at the counter told me that there was a tip option, and then explained in detail who the tip went to at Dave's.... I felt like I was being forced to throw extra money on what was already a $21 meal. I bought what amounted to some chicken nuggets, with a handful of fries, and a giant mozzarella stick. And a Coke. It was almost $22. That same meal would've cost 11 not too long ago. And now, you're trying to guilt me into adding a tip of 20%. That would take the bill up to $26 for some fricking chicken nuggets. Insane. So, I only gave a dollar as a tip, which only seemed to irritate the cashier. Now, on to the food. In my previous two trips, the chicken seemed premium. It was great quality, and the meals were wonderful. Today, those chicken nuggets seemed like second rate chicken. I had to spit one of them out because inside was fatty. The rest of them were stringy. I was five nuggets in before I found one that actually had the type of consistency that I would expect from eating chicken. It was pretty gross. My fries were not hot. I was honestly sitting there, wondering if they served me tepid fries because I did not tip big. The mozzarella stick was delicious though. I am admitting that I will go back just for that in the future. And the drinks are always good. They have the perfect ratio of syrup to carbonation. So, to sum it up. I got accosted by the tip police for a take out meal...the meal itself looked great when they handed it to me, but it was bad in two of three areas....bad chicken consistency and fries that died in the window. Thank goodness this was my third trip, so I will try them again. I just won't be getting those second rate chicken bites. And next time I'm not tipping a penny. Come on, Dave.

So I pulled out the trusty Yelp app to see if there might be something interesting to try in the area. I landed on a well rated Peruvian fast-casual place called Colca's Chicken and decided to stop in. This is a newer building, but the layout is a little odd in the sense that all parking is around the side and back, and because of the topography, you have to walk around to the road-side to get in. Only really pertinent if you are a person with mobility issues, fine by me. The style is fast casual, and they offer anything from simple sandwiches, to monster burritos, and entree platters. I saw someone getting a burrito and it looked really good, so I went for the "Colca"s Chicken burrito" which came with Marinated Chicken, Peruvian Fried Rice, Peruvian Chickpeas, Queso Fresco, Peruvian Onions, Cilantro, Pico de Gallo, Guacamole, Roasted Peruvian Corn, traditional Peruvian Aji Yellow Sauce. Sorry for all those caps, i copy pasted from their website. First thing... what a monster. There was so much protein and fillings in this thing that the guy making mine completely failed to roll it properly. Just wasnt possible. He did his best but a big tear opened up in the side. I told him it was OK, and he just wrapped it over with foil. I was able to eat about half before grabbing a fork and having the rest more like a bowl. Honestly though, it was so big, a little more than half was all I wanted. I wish I could say I enjoyed all of it thoroughly, but one of the elements, the roasted corn, made it difficult. The corn was so over-roasted that all the kernels were hard. It was nearly like biting into a popcorn kernel, but thankfully, they did break apart once you bit in. Whenever I hit some, it was unpleasant. Once I got in with a fork, I did my best ot separate them out, but kept hitting some. I also wasn't a huge fan of the garbanzo beans. I would know better on both items for next time. In general though, with that knowledge, I think my next experience would be better, if I get that chance. Seems like a great local place to go for an interesting meal.
