The chicken here is really good. I had the Peri Peri grilled chicken wings with the chips. Very delicious!

This was my fifth visit to one of my favourite restaurants. I deliberately travel out of my way to…read moreeat here. The restaurant has a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere and serves up an American-style BBQ menu. Portion sizes are big and the quality of the meat is never in doubt. On this visit I discovered their chicken wings, which have to be the best chicken wings I've had in the UK, and I'm struggling to remember any wings sampled in the U.S. that would beat them! The secret is definitely in the coating - I'm just gutted I didn't discover them sooner! Their southern fried chicken burger is my favourite burger from here, however unfortunately on this occasion they served it with blue cheese on top rather than the regular cheese I asked for. No problem though, they were more than happy to make a fresh burger which was just as delicious as always. The Surf, Bird & Turf Combo and BBQ Ribs are also great choices. My biggest plus about this place though is their fries; the best fries I've ever eaten. Consistently awesome on every visit, beautifully crispy and well-seasoned. Big 5 stars from me as I've had 5 fantastic meals here, and they have Brahma on tap which is a bonus.

Since Spitfire BBQ opened on the harbour I have visited several times, and now it's found its feet,…read morethere's a lot to recommend. The Ambience. It's a South African BBQ hybrid, and it has a good relaxed feel. Dark wood, and low lighting. If smoking was allowed inside, there'd be a hazy glow to the place that would be perfect. And I don't even smoke. The Drinks. They do smoked cocktails. They're arguably marmite, but I love them. (Just so we're clear, they're not marmite cocktails. You just either love them or hate them.) I had a smoked old fashioned the first time I visited, and it tasted great. I love anything smoked, so smoked cocktails were new to me. The smoked marguerita is even more smoky - arguably too smoky for some, but it all depends on your taste preference. The Food. The second time I visited I had one of the burgers. Immense, with a literal bucket of fries, I was loving it. Until my friend's rack of ribs arrived. A slab of meat, glistening and glazed. I didn't make the same mistake when I visited last night. If you've only ever had baby back ribs or ribs at home and are left feeling disappointed at the meat/bone ratio, relax. There's more meat here than you know what to do. I shared the medium ribs with a friend (£14.95) and, with fries, onion rings, and smoked beans, was more than enough. I am hesitant as to whether the sides were made on site, but you go to Spitfire BBQ for the ribs. The sides are just to break up the meat. If you have a hankering for meat, then head to Spitfire BBQ. They do meat well.

As part of the Harvester chain, I've found these restaurants to all be similar across the UK. You…read moredon't come here for 5-star dining. You come here for consistent food at a good value. I arrived at my nearby hotel late in the evening and struggled to find anything other than fast food that was still open. I was thrilled to find out they were still open. When I arrived, I was quickly taken to my table. Because I've been to these before, I was able to quickly decide what I wanted. I got a sirloin steak and a Pepsi Max. I'm from the US, so I'm accustomed to all restaurants including free refills of soft drinks. I drink a lot, so I miss that when I travel to other countries. The first time I visited a Harvester, that was actually my primary reason: I saw on their web site that they offered free refills! My meal was prompt (despite there being a couple of larger groups there) and reasonable quality. As I said originally, I went to Harvester because I knew what I could expect and they completely met my expectations. The chips were fresh and crisp and my steak was properly prepared at medium rare. This one is in a great location if you are near Cardiff Castle and I think it would be even better on a nice day, sitting outside watching all the people passing. Unfortunately, I was there late on a rainy night. I would definitely go back again if I was in Cardiff.

I absolutely love harvester it's really good food for really good prices, the one near Ikea is great and there is one in Swansea I go to with my grandparents all the time that has really good service. This one in Cardiff City centre is by far the worst harvester I've been to and worst restaurant in general. It's such a shame because it is a great location for the chain. When I arrived it was quite busy but that was expected as it was a Saturday, I gave my name to the host and she said it would be a 15 minute wait. Me and my friend was having a chat in the waiting area when I noticed it was 30 minutes later and people who arrived after us were being seated, I thought I'd give them a chance as there was only 2 of us and they probably just wanted to to place the larger groups. The last straw was when these two girls came in and were seated straight away. I immediately complained and they said sorry they got confused because there was another person with the same name as me. This was a bit of a lie because my surname is not very common and I didn't understand how they got "confused" when they wrote my name down. They sat us straight away and offered us free drinks. The salad bar was horrendous there wasn't much option and it was very messy. They got our orders wrong because they think they can remember our orders without writing it down. The food was poor quality it felt really rushed as my chips were undercooked and the chicken was really dry and rubbery. In the end they charged us for the drinks and when we said our drinks were free the waiter left for more than 10 mins to go check before coming back and saying the manager said they weren't free. We argued before they finally took the drinks off our bill. Really disgusting service. Even though this was a few years ago the service is still just as bad as my sister went there the other week and said it was the worst dining experience of her life. Never again!
