A dozen of the bonbons and chocolates from the case
    Sarah C.

Sold out of a couple things by the time we got there (around 6:30 on a Saturday). And when we tried the treats, we knew exactly why. Everything we tried was phenomenal! My favorite items were the peanut butter caramel bonbon, Dubai chocolate bar, and the chocolate fudge style macaron. But honestly absolutely everything was amazing. The staff member working was informative and very friendly. We are goo by to be back again for sure.

I've been here years ago but didn't remember it well, so I stopped by again recently for an update. It's certainly and unusual and unique store. There is a lot of Disney and Star Wars here. Pop toys, action figures, displays, collectibles, and so much more. Add to that a smattering of the more high-life collectibles like porcelain statues and the like. A ton of puzzles to choose from. It feels perpetually like Christmas here. Most of these things don't interest me, and that makes up the majority of the store. What I would absolutely come back for is the huge selection of loose-leaf teas. (There is also a huge selection of coffee beans, that's just not my thing personally.) I purchased some Darjeeling and some White, both of which I haven't had in a while. I prefer loose leaf teas as it's lower waste and (typically) higher quality. There was only one which I wanted that they were out of - Lapsang Souchong. The owner took note of it and said he'd have more in sometime - I'll be looking forward to going back for that. By the way, prices are indeed on the high side here across the board. I had one of the chocolates and it wasn't impressive for the price. But the tea and coffee prices seem reasonable, plus you can "adjust" the price by the amount you purchase.

As expected, the vast majority of the convenience store foodstuffs were heavily processed, mass-produced garbage. I was about to give up and lick my own sweaty pecs for salt when I spotted the Goodart's display. I'd never heard of Goodart's before, but the spartan packaging (indicative of a small, independently owned company) and "Go Texan!" branding gave me a good first impression. The options included an assortment of peanut candies, including various brittles and something new to me: a "Peanut Pattie [sic]." I grabbed the largest iteration of the "pattie" (the aptly named "Super Pattie"), paid the inbred Devil's reject at the counter, and went on my way. The "pattie" struck me as a cross between a nougat and a brittle: not quite as soft as the former, but not nearly as crunchy (and...uh...brittle) as the latter. Lightly caramelized sugar was the dominant flavor, but the salt from the peanuts crept in towards the end of every bite. I would have preferred a more balanced salt-to-sweet ratio, but I was so famished that I woofed that one-pound bad boy down faster than a...starving, sweaty, clairsentient/clairaudient occultist man-child wearing glow-in-the-dark Pokémon pajama bottoms. As my blood sugar returned to normal, I took a moment to Google the company and discovered that Goodart's has been making its peanut candies by hand in small batches since 1939. The company consists of only ten employees, all of them Lubbock natives. The products are available at convenience stores and family-owned cafes throughout West Texas. If you spot the distinctive Goodart's packaging at a convenience store, I'd suggest giving the pattie (or perhaps the brittle) a try. Side note: I was so delirious with hunger and low blood sugar that I initially mistook the name as "Goodfart's." Indeed, peanuts contain a significant amount of flatulence-producing phytates and tannins, so my hypoglycemic visual hallucination was rooted in scientific fact. I would, however, hesitate to describe my emissions as "good," as my long-suffering dad/chauffeur would indubitably substantiate. But I digress. The pattie tasted good and I recommend that you eat one.

I got home called Goodart's to notify them the candy was fresh & delicious. The best treat I had in a long time.
