Beware of non communication from these people. I moved to Hawaii, left my credit card on file. I left my card at the gas station in Hawaii, got a new card (old card was on auto pay at this storage unit) (30$ a month) and no one contacted me to tell me the card wasnt working. They did not call, they did not text, they did not email, they did not send a letter, what they did was they auctioned off all my belongings of my entire life completely traumatizing me and my son. They sold my baby photos, baby clothes, expensive collectables from my travels around the world, there was a bmx bike, flat screen tvs, beautiful gowns I got in Paris, 10,000$ worth of motorcycle gear. This was not your typical chico storage unit. This is where I come in between my travels because my mom lives here and I never believed that they could be so cruel. I have plenty of money and I do believe they intentionally stole everything in my unit after seeing what was in there. My son drove his car all the way from Florida to find out everything had been sold. No one contacted me about anything! They are dishonest and unethical. During our conversation, she confirmed that she hadn't moved, from one unit to another, there had not been furniture as you described stored with in her unit and she had not encountered the rat/mice problem you described. Because of your detailed description of rodents, experience of tenants living in their units and the fact that we do not have any record of ever leasing units to Bidwell Title and Escrow we think you may be confusing Chico U Lock-lt with another self storage facility in Chico. *************************************************** This is one confused business owner. Just rented a unit. Diego in the office was very helpful and courteous. The slider for the lock was stuck and he quickly appeared with WD-40. Works better now. Way cheaper than the storage facilities in Sacramento. Only drawback would be to have a stronger light in the unit. read more

Perfect location right off of the freeway! The storage unit is well maintained and secured, I always felt safe coming by myself at any time to drop things off to storage or pick things up. Rented two units on the 1st. Moved out on the 15th would not refund any money. Told them from the start that I would only be there for 15 days. Gave the 30 day notice on the first. Charged for two processing fees even though it was one transaction. They took back possession of the units on the 15th. Manager would not refund any amount. The units have been subsequently released to someone else. No interior lighting. Limited access hours to interior hall units. read more

My complaint is about the gate hours, management closes the gate 10 minutes before the scheduled closing time. I've called them on numerous occasions to only be met with excuses. Come on people, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to run a storage facility! I've been using Chico U-Lock-It for the past 10 months and they have been amazing. The staff is always kind and friendly. They have complimentary water and coffee in the office. I've never had any problems with bugs or water when it rains. We had heavy rain that caused flooding in a lots of parts of Chico a few weeks ago and all the student which units were completely fine! Evicted because the manager decided there was a breach in lease. There was no such breach, nor was there ever any attempt to resolve whatever their issue was. When the manager decides they don't like someone, they get the sharp end of her power trip stick. We received a notice or rent would go up. . No biggie. Then we were charged a late fee before ten days which is against California law. My wife tried to get then to reverse it, but the manager wouldn't. So I went down to inquire and was asked to sign a new contact, but the contract was illegal. I opted to give my 30 days notice. I'm writing this review based on my grandmothers experience with Chico U Lock It. My grandmother was renovating her home a few months ago and needed to store her furniture somewhere. We were looking for something cheap and close by so we decided to take a Chance with Chico U Lock. They made my grandmothers moving/storing experience pleasant. I very rarely give bad reviews because I like to give second chances but I have given this place a million chances to redeem themselves. If I could give negative stars....I would. And now seeing how bad other reviews are, it astonishes me that the management and owner of this facility, would not try and improve their business. My sorority and I have a unit with this place and have been trying to cancel it for MONTHS, to save you the details, they have made it so difficult and stressful to try and put our 30 days in. and now have locked the gate permanently for me, because "too many different people were accessing the unit, and eating food" so I have to go into the office to have the manually open the gate every time because people ate food! On top of it all, the front desk people are so incredibly disrespectful and flat out rude. This is absolutely insane, this place sucks and so does their employees. read more

She explained everything in details and assured me what will be charged and when. I was looking for a storage the day of and was lucky to find one that day with the crazy season when all college students are leaving. We've been renting two units here for 11 months. This has been the worst experience ever. the management has repeatedly harassed us, changed our gate code without telling us several times, kicked us out at five even though gates stay open until 7, and every time we try and talk to the manager reasonably she has only become child like and rude and threatened us with a 30 day notice. She has accused us of excessive smoking and leaving cig. butts everywhere, even though we DO NOT SMOKE, she stalks us when we are there and invades our privacy. She is the rudest, childish and unprofessional person i have ever dealt with. I would NEVER recommend this place to any one, not even my worst enemy read more

RUN AWAY AS FAST AS POSSIBLE!!! The OLD management was great, but a new manager took over in early 2014. THE LADY IS CRAZY! I mean like, in serious need of psychological counseling. And they will sell your property, legal or not. Seriously. We were in the office a couple of months ago behind a woman upset about this and when she left the manager told my wife they shouldn't have sold her stuff. Then they changed their hours, when the hours were one of the reasons we went there. Then the CRAZY came out. I'm paid up on time every month through my credit card. I entered 5 minutes before closing to drop one item off. Literally a 3 minute trip. She came running out SCREAMING at me that I was trespassing and I had to leave. What? I explained that I rent a unit (I used my code to open the gate!) and I had plenty of time to drop off and leave before closing. She continued YELLING at me that I was trespassing, she was going to lock me in (illegal) and she was calling the police. Honestly, I thought she was trying to scare me, because that would be CRAZY, right? She took more of my time screaming at me like a lunatic than I needed to drop off and leave. Yep, crazy. I decided at that moment that we were done. There were other issues too and this was so far past the last straw. So guess what? Yep, Chico PD showed up. Of course, as soon as she explained the situation to them, they pretty much laughed at her (very professionally, of course) and were done. So was I, we cleared out the next day. DON'T RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE UNLESS YOU ARE JUST DUMPING JUNK THERE THAT YOU ARE NEVER GOING TO TOUCH AGAIN! read more

I've had my stuff in here for nearly 17 years and while it used to be pleasant, I can not emphasize how much it should be avoided now. Lost and mysteriously delayed checks, ridiculous fees, insane credit card policies. For example, if you wish to have your monthly fee automatically withdrawn by credit card, and can not present the card in person (I'm out of state), you must have your request notarized. Yes, by an actual notary, because that's normal. The electronic payment site does not work. Poor, rude communication if any communication at all. There is really no reason at all to ever consider this place. None. Ever. read more

My experience wasn't bad until about a year after I had moved out of the unit. I received a letter from a collection agency saying I owed them for the last months rent. Which I had paid in cash and a year later did not have the receipt. Scammers! I wouldn't doubt it if this was common practice for them. read more

They say you have until the 10th to pay your bill, I went in on the 10th back in November to pay and they charged me the late fee because it was "a new business day after 10am." Not only that but they had already put a red lock on my unit which they made me pay a B.S. lock cutting fee! I gave them my 30 day notice January 1st and when I went in on the 31st they said my paperwork wasn't put in the system until the 3rd and couldn't find the forms I filled out on the 1st. They were going to charge me another months rent even after all my stuff and lock were out of the unit! I told them they wouldn't be getting another penny from me. Horrible place! When you leave you can't just let them know & pay a prorated amount. I called to tell them I was out & asked for a call back to confirm. Not receiving any word back, I went in & they said it had to be in writing & their 'not replying' was my deal not theirs. So I signed the document & instead of it being 30 days notice they said I still had to pay for the rest of this month as well a the entirety of the next month. On top of paying for almost 2 months AFTER BEING OUT, they had it rented out w/in a few days so they were also earning that money on the unit. I called & emailed multiple times to ask if they could allow me to pay 30 days instead of almost 2 months & they wouldn't return my calls or emails. I went in AGAIN & they said them not calling or emailing me back was not their problem & to pay them even though they were also renting it simultaneously. read more

This company has serious problems!!! We rented a space 4 years ago, it has changed owners twice since then. We gave 30 day notice , went in today to close out unit, they didn't have any rental agreement we did, then they said there was a couple stains on floor, we said they were there when we moved in and they said well we don't have info on that so we still are going to charge you $150 cleaning, then also tried to charge us for an extra month. I had the worst experience with management there today. The manager is a crazy lady and is extremely unprofessional. I was moving some boxes into my fathers storage when I had trouble with the gate code. The code was correct because my father gave it to me it was just not working. So I went in and asked if the lady could assist me and she was extremely rude and told me she couldn't do anything for me unless my dad was with me. So I ended up getting inside the gate and once I got to my storage unit she had put one of her own locks on there. I was furious since I had all the boxes in my truck with no where to put them. Too bad for her my father will be canceling his account and moving his personal property to another storage unit facility in Chico. Was told by office I would have a unit withing 48 hours, made arragngement to move to Chico U Lock Self Storage. Canceled service with another storage, arrange mover and laborers to move me into new unit. Called to confirm next day and spoke with a young woman who claimed to be the manager but refused to identify herself. This young woman repeated four times there is a waiting list do I want to be on it. STF? What was I doing the day before when I was in the office? The young woman was very rude and unhelpful. They require 30 day notice for vehicle parking spots also. I had to pay an extra 30 days for a boat that wasn't there. If you are a day late they put a red lock on your door and charge you to remove it. They are extremely rude, there's cock roaches in the units, my door was broken and didn't roll up right. The light in my unit has never worked and they could care less and never fix anything. Don't even get me started on all the other things wrong with this place. Update: People here seem to be changing their ways. They are a lot more friendly and now they pro rate your notice. I don't know what happened but I don't mind going in there now, it's way better, I might end up at 4 stars the way this is going;) read more

Wow, glad to see I was not the only one. I went to drop some stuff off at my husbands storage. My Mom who is surviving from stage 3 ovarian cancer, daughter from Reno and brother from 40 miles away spent all day loading up. When we got there the gate didn't work. When I went in to ask what was up she said she couldn't talk to me because I was not on the account. I asked her to call my husband to confirm. She said she is not allowed to call anyone. He called the office and she did not answer on purpose as I was standing there. We finally got the gate to work and went to the storage. She put their own lock on it. So we could not access. This should be illegal. The lady is crazy and if u want access to your personal property or need to store some thing, Do not go there!! read more

Thank you Vanessa, for doing the right thing. Walked in to "Chico U Lock it" in a hurry, last place in town on a Sunday with space for my Chico Student. Was asking if a 2 week lease was an option, it was not. We signed the rental Agreement (month to month). The attendant, knowing our full intent was to rent for less than 1 month, never indicated a 30 day advance written notice was required for termination. She could have easily mentioned this fact and had us sign a 30 day notice with the main agreement, maybe she will now. Vanessa helped do the right thing and mailed us a full refund of all monies paid. Lot's of one star comments here, maybe the owner finally has redemption in mind? My family uses Chico U Lock It Self Storage for our RV storage. It amazes me that much of the complaints on this page are about billing policies; as if the owners are doing something wrong by having very standard policies. What I have been impressed with about his location is the security. A heavy duty security gate, high concrete walls, and barbed wire. These measures have protected our property well and we feel safe leaving our valuables in their fortress-like setting. read more

I see by these comments not many folks are happy. I do have to say leaving emails. & phone messages doesn't get you immediate or timely responses. However, I've always found Lisette to be sweet and very approachable and helpful. There's a lot of laws governing these places & it may be inconvenient, but you have to go in person to have someone placed on your access to your unit. Even tho I pay for my son's unit, I don't have legal access. As for their lock on your unit, it only happens when you don't pay your rent. So, is that why you folks had their lock on your unit?
