My husband, MIL and I went here to eat recently. We have never been here before and figured we would try it out. That was a huge mistake on our part. For three people it was $105 for terrible food. My ground beef chimichanga was so greasy it was running all over the plate. It wasn't fresh at all and tasted old and nasty. The mexican rice was a joke. It had an overwhelming taste of tomato paste and a weird seasoning blend. It was not a true mexican rice. I ate very little of my food and threw in the garbage when I got home. The two burgers were supposed to be cooked medium they were burnt black. The only highlight was the french fries and drinks. The rest was complete garbage and would have been better off buying frozen chimichangas and cooking them. That would have been at least edible. Chicos has been and always will be a 5 star stop, growing up around the area, I've had family come here for decades and it really hasn't changed one bit! Heidi really takes honor in serving some kickass food here. Things to know: - it's a supper club type vibe, the food takes awhile specifically if you order Mexican... but that's because it's made fresh - you can bring kids but there isn't much here to entertain them. - the drinks are amazing, anything from a whiskey sweet old fashioned to a blended raspberry margarita will be just what you ask for, perfect - Chimichangas are their go to menu item, but don't shy away from their amazing steaks or their fish fry(no one believes me when I say their fish fry is amazing, you have to try it!) There's nothing really that bad to say about Chicos, from the bartenders like Chris, to the amazing servers like Joe and Lori will take care of you. read more

This place deserves zero stars! My husband, son, and I stopped in tonight for dinner. We live in the area, have never been there and wanted to try someplace new. We stood at the bar for about 5 min, there were 2 other couples at the bar. The bartender never even looked at us. The waitress walked past us twice without even acknowledging we were there. Another couple walked in, walked right up to the bar and was served immediately. After about 7-8 minutes has passed the waitress condescendingly throws her hands in the air and says "do you need something"? My husband explained that we were waiting for a table but nobody noticed us. She then threw her hands in the air again and said "What do you need? Do you need to eat??" as she makes a "shoving food into her mouth with a fork" motion. "No- no, we don't. We will take our business elsewhere". As we were walking out I turned around and saw the waitress mocking us. I have NEVER been treated this poorly. No wonder this place is for sale and going out of business. I expect piss poor customer service this day in age but this takes the cake. read more

Got a spot at the bar right away. Watched the barkeep wash dishes and then we finally begged to be served. Went to the desk to put our name in for a table....winner winner chicken dinner there was one available for 2 immediately. Nobody ever came. My husband finished his beer and we left. Service was very slow to start. I ordered 3 beef taco's and would have enjoyed 3 from Taco Bell much better, and would have been 1/3 the price. This was also the first Mexican restaurant I have been to with out free chips and salsa. She also did a touch down when filling my water glass, then proceeded to do the same for the rest of the patrons. read more

Of course the atmosphere is unique and enjoyable in a campy, dive bar meets retro Spanish Texican restaurant sort-of way. The burgers & fries and chimichangas were always awesome. Umm, you can do better. If you are looking for a place for a beer, this place is fine. But if you are looking for food, continue on down the road, there are better places reasonably close by in Wausau. Service was lacking, as was the authenticity of the 'Mexican' food. read more

The only reason I'm giving it one star rating is because you have to give one star. Dinner for four turned into the worst meal of our lives for over $100. They did quite a bit of interior remodeling before our visit and you can tell the difference but the food and the service is gotten much worse. I've never seen Mexican rice in such a thick red sauce, it looked like tomato paste. The supreme nachos as an appetizer were oven baked and unrecognizable as they were offered to the table. A very sad meal and seriously overpriced. Stay at home and open a can of soup. read more

I do not understand all the negative reviews. Chico's has been my favorite restaurant for decades (since South of the Border went out of business). If you don't like a long wait, go early. They open a 4. I always order a shredded beef Chimichanga, it is almost always deliciously perfect and enough for 2 or 3 meals for me. I've probably had 30 of them over the years and only two were sub-par. I ate them regardless, even the leftovers are yummy AF. P.S. I'm not from San Francisco, but have always lived in the local area of Chico's in north central Wisconsin. read more

Hello..I see I have two terrible reviews..very sad. I have owned chicos for 32 years and am very troubled by this. The meats for our chimis are seasoned very well and made from scratch which we are known for. I use REAL cheese and when it melts it does sometimes let the "butter" out on the plate. My ribeyes are choice cut and served with just a little sautéed mushrooms on top...if you want your potato on a seperate plate please say so. PLEASE dont let these reviews discourage you. I have been here before but it's never been so disappointing, the restaurant is empty and loud 70's trash rock blasting. Been here 45 minutes and haven't seen food we ordered over a half ago. It seems like the staff doesn't care about anything. How long does one have to wait before it's rude to just leave? When the food finally came we'd been there for almost an hour, dry and overlooked is how I will describe it bland is another. I won't come back here. read more

If you enjoy vomiting go eat here. Chimmy was deep fried until brittle and served in a puddle of grease. Service was very poor. Orders were mixed up. Took 1 hour 15 minutes to get food on a slow Sunday night. Go to Taco Johns or Taco Bell instead. If you still go here bring a flashlight so you can see to order then see your food. I don't understand the other reviews. This place has the tastiest chimichangas in the entire country! Believe me, I have tried them in many restaurants across the USA and none compare to the ones I have had at Chico's. I have also enjoyed the Mexican pizza, poor man's lobster, and the seafood platter here. All have been exceptional! I always reserve a cabana which I much prefer over the main dining area, The staff has always been pleasant, the drinks have always been excellent, and the prices very reasonable. read more

We went here because someone told us they had good mexican food. I can't imagine what they think good food is because it certainly wasn't here I don't know any mexican restaurant that bakes burritos until they are crispy. The fillings in the tortilla are unidentifiable presentation was terrible food was just slopped on the plate and was overflowing. No salsa no cheese no sour cream served. What I thought was taco sauce or hot sauce was just ketchup. There was already a ketchup bottle on the table. When we asked the waitress how long of a wait for food she said it depends on how fast he cooks. REALLY! deserves minus stars $35 wasted and didn't even include a drink. We had went here because a few people said it was good. It was a nice atmosphere but that's about it. The chimichanga had so much sitting grease on the plate it was not even something you could pretend to eat. I ordered the rib eye steak with a baked potato, it was just thrown on a small plate with a breadstick and a baked potato. I have never seen such a poor cut of meat and just bad presentation.
