Authentic Mexican restaurant right in Weston! I'm used to eating more modern/street Mexican food but this is a welcoming change. The decor is very inviting when you step in! Love the different areas of sitting, booth, patio and high tops. We ordered an assortment of tacos along with sides. Loved the fish and shrimp tacos! So much flavor and texture! They're very close to what I had in Denver. The beans and rice are a bit heavy for me but I can see someone enjoying it when you crave a hearty meal. The sangria I ordered tasted like it's mixed from powder and it doesn't have any alcohol. A little disappointed but the Margaritas looked delicious! The servers were so friendly and prompt! He accommodated our requests with the kids meal. Everyone loved their meal and that's a huge win in my book! After a series of travel mishaps, we ended up in Wausau for the evening and needed to find a place for a meal. This place was near our hotel and had good reviews so we decided to stop in for dinner. The service was friendly, the drinks (which I forgot to take pictures of) perfect and the food delicious and in my opinion (as a girl who grew up in California with some of the best Mexican restaurants), pretty authentic. I am still wondering why is there such good Mexican food in the middle of Wisconsin. The place was the perfect respite from a long day of travel, and I would highly recommend to anyone wanting a good Mexican meal and drinks. read more

3.5 Stars... I ordered the Montezuma molcajete! It's really huge and I liked it but, the skewered shrimp on top, tasted raunchy and old!! Too bad because everything else was really good including my wife's meal. The waitress we had was training another waitress, but she seemed somewhat airheaded.. Maria was the best server ever. She was attentive without constantly interrupting our meal. There were no long waits for anything. As soon as we were seated we had chips. Shortly after that our food order was in the kitchen. The food was delicious and well seasoned. And hot (temperature). I had the combination fajitas and there's enough for another meal. The only negative would be three small tortillas for all that meat and veggies was a bit skimpy. My husband had a burrito and enjoyed it so much he ate it all. There was great tap beer available and my margarita hit the spot. We will definitely return. read more

Frequent visitor to Weston as a family member is in Rennes. I have driven by multiple times and finally stopped in for lunch a few days ago. We were very impressed with food, shrimp Diablo and carnitas, both were very flavorful. The decor is pretty cool and makes the atmosphere fun and festive. The wait staff could use just a little more customer service experience, not terrible, just not warm and friendly. The manager spoke with us on our way out and she was fabulous. Low grade tortilla chips from a bag, salsa from a jar served in a small plastic cup. Burned refried beans, steak tacos that were so salty they were inedible. And a waitress that didn't bother to check in until it was time to bring the bill. Never once did she inquire as to how the meal tasted. I really try to give all wait staff a huge break these days considering most places are having a hard time finding employees, so many of them are inexperienced. But this is the second time I've been here and experienced low quality food and service. They won't get a third chance. read more

So this was our first time here since they opened. Have been to their other restaurant downtown called Jalapeños in the Washington Square. The atmosphere at this location is so fun. Loved the wood, the lighting, the set up. Friendly from the minute you walk in. The bar area is large for you to wait until they have a table available. Lots of drink choices. The food had incredible flavor. I had the shrimp tacos that had a barbecue or a sweet honey flavor that just made the meal. My husband's chimichanga was also very flavorful. I'm in Wausau every so often for business and am usually on my own for dinner as I stay in the Weston area. I'm glad I found this establishment! Very authentic Mexican cuisine with a contemporary spin! Nothing like I experience in Florida. It seems for some reason the Midwest has great Mexican and Mexicali than the southwest! Michigan is the same way. Keep it up Cheeseheads. Do yourself a favor and stop by whether you're a local in the Wausau area or in town on business or pleasure! One of the best Mexican restaurants I have ever been to in the US. Seriously better than many Mexican cantinas in California and AZ. Highly recommended if you're in the area. It's affordable, too. I think I may have been food poisoned. Although my groups food being OK. We received below average service from our waitress despite not being very busy (slow with drinks, not acting friendly). The enchiladas I had ordered had little moisture to them other than the salsa verde on them, otherwise our group had some other tiny critiques. Keep in mind this was my first meal of the day and whatever I consumed was likely cross contaminated because later in the evening after going home I began to get a bad headache, cold chills and slight fatigue along with stomach cramps, symptoms of food poisoning. Very clean and fancy - your typical Mexican restaurant foods. Salsa and chips are the best part, but it's an extra $1 if you want anymore chips than the one very small basket given that is labeled complimentary. An extra $ .50 for salsa too. I understand that inflation may have caused this, but I just felt like extra cost could've gone elsewhere. read more

PSA: Servers in Wisconsin make 2.25/hr...be sure to tip accordingly!!! If you can't afford to tip you should not be dining out. They are a friendly and helpful staff, with a family friendly atmosphere! Also a lengthy tequila selection! They offer a lot of traditional Mexican beer options, plus a few on tap options as well. With regard to the food, I enjoy it. In my personal opinion it lacks some authentic properties but that is most likely done on purpose to appeal to the clientele. I feel that the 'Mexican Tacos' are the best option on the menu with regard to flavor and authenticity! The other options I've seen or had are very large portions and could easily be shared. Aside from the Tacos, my other suggestion would be to ask one of the very helpful owners for a suggestion, ask them for authentic flavors, it won't disappoint! read more

So disappointed as we have eaten here before about a year ago. I ordered takeout to be picked up at 7:30pm which was an hour wait (no problem), arrived paid and waited another 45mins for tasteless food. I could have ordered in the restaurant and received my food quicker - SERIOUSLY!! On top of that it was absolutely the worst Mexican food I have ever eaten regardless of the wait. We ordered the Gordita and Burrito. There are plenty of other Mexican places to chose from in the Wausau area I recommend you check out those instead. read more

You can taste the scratch made flavors in the beef and the carnitas. Choice of tequila for the margarita. I would definitely come back.

First time visiting Patron and it won't be our last. Traveling through Wausau over Easter weekend and were looking for a nice place for dinner. My brother-in-law recommended Patron and he was right on target. We now have a favorite casual restaurant in greater Wausau. Our waiter, Freddy, was exceptional. He presented the menu quite completely and worked with my brother-in-law's wife to address her dietary needs. He was also quite thorough in reviewing the bar menu!! My spouse and I ordered a vegetarian taco salad and an order of Milanese, something I had never had before. The taco salad was quite good, although a bit too moist. Perhaps it was from the mushrooms, a unique item for a taco salad. The Milanese, breaded fried beef served with lettuce, tomato, avocado, rice and beans was wonderful. The serving size was more than adequate, especially the very lean and delicious beef. I've just discovered another "favorite entree". Visited with the owners and they were quite interested in the satisfaction of their customers. The only thing they might improve is the queso dip; it was a little too thin. The drinks were great, the food exceeded our expectations, our waiter was attentive and helpful and the atmosphere welcoming. When in Wausau/Weston give Patron a try.
