WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE -- DO NOT GO TO WAUSAU MINE We were visiting Wausau for the weekend and decided to check out Wausau Mine because it looked like a fun place on the website. BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER. We were a group of 16 people, including 9 kids. Around 1:30 that afternoon, we called to see if they took reservations. The woman we spoke with was great and told us they could accommodate us. Awesome! A few hours later, someone from the restaurant actually called US and asked if we wanted their private room upstairs because they were getting several other smaller-party reservations. With 9 kids in our group, we were thrilled and obviously said YES. We arrived about 10 minutes before our reservation and were seated immediately -- but not in the private room. My sister-in-law and I went back to the staff member who seated us and explained that someone from the restaurant had specifically called us about the private room and that we had accepted it. Their response? There was another party upstairs and they didn't want to "ruffle any feathers." Ummm... what about OUR feathers? We didn't ask for this room. Your restaurant called us and offered it to us. We simply accepted what you offered. Mistakes happen. We understand that. So we asked for a manager. The first manager came over, and honestly, she was great. We explained what happened, and she said she would get her boss. Enter Cindy. We explained the entire situation AGAIN. Instead of an apology or even acknowledging that this was frustrating, Cindy asked if we had filled out the online form. We explained AGAIN that we didn't request the private room through an online form. Someone from the restaurant called US and offered it to us. After going back and forth, Cindy threw her hands up and walked away saying: "I don't know what you want me to do about this." Well, Cindy... honestly? AN APOLOGY. That's it. We weren't demanding free food. We weren't demanding money. We weren't screaming. We weren't asking for anything unreasonable. We wanted someone to acknowledge that the restaurant had called us, offered us the room, we accepted it, and then the restaurant failed to honor what it had promised. Apparently, that was too much to ask. So we asked the first manager if there was another manager on duty. She offered to get the GM, Dan. Dan eventually came over -- after we had already eaten and paid our bill, definitely a coincidence because I noticed him peeking over at us multiple times. We explained everything AGAIN, including how Cindy had treated us and that we were simply looking for an apology. His response? "I'll talk to her." That's it. Someone in our group actually had to ask: "So you can't even apologize to us?" Only THEN did Dan apologize. At that point, we were completely over it and walked out. Unfortunately, the food didn't exactly redeem the experience. It was mediocre at best, and several people in our group couldn't even eat their meals. To be fair, our server was amazing, and the first manager we spoke with was also great. Unfortunately, their good customer service was completely overshadowed by the way Cindy and Dan handled the situation. Here's the thing: Mistakes happen. We get it. But when a restaurant makes a mistake, the appropriate response is: "We're so sorry. We made a mistake. Let's see what we can do." Because here's a wild concept: Sometimes customers just want an apology. We came in with 16 people ready to spend our money and enjoy our evening. Instead, we left frustrated and incredibly disappointed. 0/10 customer service. 0/10 management. Mediocre food. Would not recommend. And we will absolutely NOT be returning. If you're considering Wausau Mine, save yourself the headache and spend your money somewhere that actually values its customers. And Cindy... if a customer is asking you for an apology, the answer really shouldn't be that difficult. read more

Don't order the ribeye! We went to Wausau Mine after hearing an ad that said "the best steak in town". I ordered the tenderloin and my husband ordered the ribeye. While my steak was delicious, my husband's steak was full of gristle and unrendered fat. We think at least half of the 14 oz steak was not edible. The waitress graciously took our complaint to the manager, who did not come out to talk to us, but did take half off the price of my husband's meal. After leaving the restaurant, my husband was still hungry, so we went to A&W and he ordered a hamburger that tasted better than the ribeye! Busy place with a really Cool theme and a lot of cool scenery around the establishment. Service was just "ok" or so-so considering how busy it was. Most of the issues could be fixed with better training. Or maybe just have a server that didn't act like she was in such a rush to get to the next table. We definitely didn't feel seen. One training issue I would suggest, is bringing soup and salad prior to entrees. I received my soup after she had already brought the pizza and burger. I ended up not eating the soup because I like my pizza hot. The food holds this place up for the most part. The Pizza is really good. Great crust, awesome tasting sauce and very fresh ingredients. And melted cheese like we're in Wisconsin!! The Rib Mountain burger has a really good grill taste and was cooked well. Not overdone but just right. My wife ordered the poor man's cod. This was the worst experience. The first serving was overcooked so bad it was like cardboard and we had to send it back. The second one was better but still a little over cooked and under seasoned. Just ate it because everyone was already half way through their meal. Our drinks were delivered but never refilled or serviced once until we finally asked. This place is fun for the whole fam! I took the wife and kids to a concert in Wausau and after the concert we were all hungry and we found this place on Yelp! It's a fun mining theme restaurant! The food was great! The kids meals were a great price and fun! My daughter got a pizza that had a happy face on it made from toppings. lol My son got the chicken nuggets. My wife got the chicken pot pie which was amazing and I got the steak house burger on sourdough bread! Great choices all around! We also got Italian fries for all to share. Italian fries are just really really really cheesy cheesy bread! There's a lot of cheese! lol The Italian fries comes with marinara sauce for dipping and it's great marinara sauce! The small size of Italian fries was the perfect size for our table of four. Our server was super helpful and friendly. The rest of the staff were great too! I don't know if they just do it for the kids or for the whole table but after our meal we got four chocolate golden coins! We had a lot of fun! Very dissapointing. To go order. Chicken ceasar salad had no chicken and my pizza looks like it got dropped. I kept the pizza flat while I carried it and set it on the floor of my vehicle so the toppings wouldnt slide off. Called to talk to the manager and she said she would replace the salad but the pizza left in good condition. Basically called me a liar. Came here for dinner with coworkers tonight in the upstairs private room. This is an old rustic restaura that features a lot of mine inspired decor. Lots of wood, rocks and dim lighting. Great themed dining atmosphere for sure! Our server was extremely friendly, patient and offered attentive service throughout our dinner! We had 12 in our group and she got all our orders correctly and our food came out in a timely manner. The food itself is very hearty--think what miners likes to eat after a long day of hard work. We ordered pot pie, salmon sandwich, burger, Philly cheesesteaks, burrito, cod and pasta and meatballs. All very tasty but not the most healthy or foodie worthy bites by any means. We also had a few drinks, again nothing fancy. Overall, this is a great spot for casual dining with friendly service for folks who like generous portions of hearty American food and good 'ol' beers! Terrible service. Had reservation for 9 including 3 young children for 4:45 and were left in the cold outside for 45 minutes being told it'd be "10 minutes max, 5 more minutes max, etc.). Then were finally told at 5:25 that there was a table ready but they were waiting for the kitchen to catch up. But still not called in - so they had a table available but instead made us and our kids stay out in the cold. Finally gave up as it was evident we would not eat until at least 6:30 or 7. I was on the hunt for a really good burger in the Wausau area and I definitely found it here! The burgers are half pound and they have a decent variety of burger options. I opted for the Virgil burger, Canadian, bacon, sautéed mushrooms and onions, and. Swiss cheese. The burger was juicy and had lots of flavor. There were plenty of mushrooms and onions as toppings, and the cheese was actually melting. I chose to forgo the chips and upgrade to french fries, I do not regret it at all. The fries were crinkle cut, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. As far as the atmosphere is concerned, it definitely lives up to its name! The outside looks like an old rambling mine shack and inside you feel like you are in a mine shaft. There is a raw wood to feel like supports, holding up the walls of the mine. There's even a canary in a cage! I can't wait to return so I can bring my grandsons. They would love the atmosphere, and goodness knows, I would love the food! read more

We stopped by to celebrate a family members birthday and used the private dining room. The room was set up well with tons of tables and chairs, and had waters for everyone. The theme of the restaurant was present throughout with little mining town displays and pictures. Our waitress was super friendly and patient getting everyone's orders. We got some drinks, appetizers, and pizzas. Everything came out pretty quickly, the appetizers and pizzas we had were alright. The pizzas were large, and we had plenty to go around. The baked food had an oven taste to them and tasted kind of frozen, pretty basic restaurant food. There was also a small arcade upstairs that the kids enjoyed. Some of the games didn't work that well and the room was pretty small. After eating and playing games it got pretty warm upstairs with the sun shining in and the amount of people. Overall, its a nice spot to host a big group with a private dining room. I would like to go back and try some other options on the menu. read more

Tried this out when I was in town, it was one of the few places open after 7:30 on a Sunday night. I got an Italian cheese fry, Caesar salad, and chicken fiesta soup. The cheese fry was pretty good, and a good quantity for the small fry. The salad was pretty good as well. I wasn't really a fan of the soup - it was more of a dip, which the waiter did tell me, but it was definitely thicker than expected. I think this would work for an appetizer to share but it's very heavy and not really a soup if that's what you're looking for. The service itself was good but the hostess was no where to be found for a good 5-10 minutes when I arrived and when I left to pay.
