Busy place with a really Cool theme and a lot of cool scenery around the establishment. Service was just "ok" or so-so considering how busy it was. Most of the issues could be fixed with better training. Or maybe just have a server that didn't act like she was in such a rush to get to the next table. We definitely didn't feel seen. One training issue I would suggest, is bringing soup and salad prior to entrees. I received my soup after she had already brought the pizza and burger. I ended up not eating the soup because I like my pizza hot. The food holds this place up for the most part. The Pizza is really good. Great crust, awesome tasting sauce and very fresh ingredients. And melted cheese like we're in Wisconsin!! The Rib Mountain burger has a really good grill taste and was cooked well. Not overdone but just right. My wife ordered the poor man's cod. This was the worst experience. The first serving was overcooked so bad it was like cardboard and we had to send it back. The second one was better but still a little over cooked and under seasoned. Just ate it because everyone was already half way through their meal. Our drinks were delivered but never refilled or serviced once until we finally asked. This place is fun for the whole fam! I took the wife and kids to a concert in Wausau and after the concert we were all hungry and we found this place on Yelp! It's a fun mining theme restaurant! The food was great! The kids meals were a great price and fun! My daughter got a pizza that had a happy face on it made from toppings. lol My son got the chicken nuggets. My wife got the chicken pot pie which was amazing and I got the steak house burger on sourdough bread! Great choices all around! We also got Italian fries for all to share. Italian fries are just really really really cheesy cheesy bread! There's a lot of cheese! lol The Italian fries comes with marinara sauce for dipping and it's great marinara sauce! The small size of Italian fries was the perfect size for our table of four. Our server was super helpful and friendly. The rest of the staff were great too! I don't know if they just do it for the kids or for the whole table but after our meal we got four chocolate golden coins! We had a lot of fun! Very dissapointing. To go order. Chicken ceasar salad had no chicken and my pizza looks like it got dropped. I kept the pizza flat while I carried it and set it on the floor of my vehicle so the toppings wouldnt slide off. Called to talk to the manager and she said she would replace the salad but the pizza left in good condition. Basically called me a liar. I had the pulled pork sandwich but half way through it I found a hair in the meat so as one would imagine I was left with a sour stomach. A really good restaurant in Wausau! It was pretty busy on a Saturday night. The food was pretty good, the cheese curds, burgers, and chips were our favorites. The fish and "italian fries" are something we would skip. The italian fries are just breadsticks- slightly disappointed since it's something they're supposed to be known for. Terrible service. Had reservation for 9 including 3 young children for 4:45 and were left in the cold outside for 45 minutes being told it'd be "10 minutes max, 5 more minutes max, etc.). Then were finally told at 5:25 that there was a table ready but they were waiting for the kitchen to catch up. But still not called in - so they had a table available but instead made us and our kids stay out in the cold. Finally gave up as it was evident we would not eat until at least 6:30 or 7. Came here for dinner with coworkers tonight in the upstairs private room. This is an old rustic restaura that features a lot of mine inspired decor. Lots of wood, rocks and dim lighting. We had 12 in our group and she got all our orders correctly and our food came out in a timely manner. The food itself is very hearty--think what miners likes to eat after a long day of hard work. We ordered pot pie, salmon sandwich, burger, Philly cheesesteaks, burrito, cod and pasta and meatballs. All very tasty but not the most healthy or foodie worthy bites by any means. We also had a few drinks, again nothing fancy. Overall, this is a great spot for casual dining with friendly service for folks who like generous portions of hearty American food and good 'ol' beers! I was on the hunt for a really good burger in the Wausau area and I definitely found it here! The burgers are half pound and they have a decent variety of burger options. I opted for the Virgil burger, Canadian, bacon, sautéed mushrooms and onions, and. Swiss cheese. The burger was juicy and had lots of flavor. There were plenty of mushrooms and onions as toppings, and the cheese was actually melting. I chose to forgo the chips and upgrade to french fries, I do not regret it at all. The fries were crinkle cut, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. As far as the atmosphere is concerned, it definitely lives up to its name! The outside looks like an old rambling mine shack and inside you feel like you are in a mine shaft. There is a raw wood to feel like supports, holding up the walls of the mine. We stopped by to celebrate a family members birthday and used the private dining room. The room was set up well with tons of tables and chairs, and had waters for everyone. The theme of the restaurant was present throughout with little mining town displays and pictures. Our waitress was super friendly and patient getting everyone's orders. We got some drinks, appetizers, and pizzas. Everything came out pretty quickly, the appetizers and pizzas we had were alright. The pizzas were large, and we had plenty to go around. The baked food had an oven taste to them and tasted kind of frozen, pretty basic restaurant food. There was also a small arcade upstairs that the kids enjoyed. Some of the games didn't work that well and the room was pretty small. After eating and playing games it got pretty warm upstairs with the sun shining in and the amount of people. Overall, its a nice spot to host a big group with a private dining room. I would like to go back and try some other options on the menu. read more

Tried this out when I was in town, it was one of the few places open after 7:30 on a Sunday night. I got an Italian cheese fry, Caesar salad, and chicken fiesta soup. The cheese fry was pretty good, and a good quantity for the small fry. The salad was pretty good as well. I wasn't really a fan of the soup - it was more of a dip, which the waiter did tell me, but it was definitely thicker than expected. I think this would work for an appetizer to share but it's very heavy and not really a soup if that's what you're looking for. The service itself was good but the hostess was no where to be found for a good 5-10 minutes when I arrived and when I left to pay. Scratch Wausau Mine Company off your list of safe places during the pandemic. Terrible circulation. Fake stalactites and stone walls. Two FAVORITE things? The female customer without a mast going back by the food prep area and shooting through the door at her friends back there. The six inches between tables do not hide the fact that they let a table of nine sit together. Three feet from another table. There are literally three closed tables in this entire serving area. My favorite part was that NONE of the cooks wore a mask and most of the servers took off their masks after walking back to that prep area. I will not eat here again, even after they reopen. I was at Papillons earlier this week, and they followed the refs from the restaurant association. If a place like Sconnies can close their dining room, so can this place. read more

It started off as a wonderful day we were going to Wausau and were there for an event. We had ambitions to eat before we went to the event and found this place online and it looked promising. It was almost 80° outside and we walked into a dark dingy cave of a place okay no problem it's set up like a mineshaft. We order as I went upstairs with some people I was with to check out the scenery of this interesting facility I come down to here stories of my girlfriend that just went to the woman's restroom. Before I had all the details this elder woman pops out and confronts her and sarcastically asks are you okay. She immediately burst into tears and had a complete panic attack because I came to know that the woman's bathroom had one stall that was a complete mess piles of everything overflowing in one of the stalls. After a few moments of consoling my girlfriend I went to find the woman which was nowhere to be seen because she was the one tasked with the bathroom cleanliness. It was obvious that she came out immediately and was making accusations without saying it that she had done this which was not the case obviously. At this point after we had ordered I said yeah I think we just want to leave and she said well the orders are already completed. I said fine okay being the better person I said can we get them to go which they did and this took another 40 minutes for them to get these completed orders into a to-go box. For three hamburgers and a pretzel and one side two beers my bill was $110 with a $15 tip. This food was all made out of a f****** box it was awful we threw the majority of it away and went somewhere else I will say our waitress was phenomenal but we didn't have the pleasure to spend much time with her because of the complete scene and s*** show literally that this place was. What an absolute disappointment.
