Today I had a horrible experience my 3 year old daughter has Covid and we were told we had a 10:30 am appointment and were attended at 12:45pm . We asked a couple of times how long would it be and the answer was always you are next . My daughter got real inpatient and ran out of the room and starting crying and the male medical assistants and female medical assistant that were in the room where they do weight check and vitals closed their door as if the cry bothered them in a very rude way which was very unprofessional . They could have at least asked if everything was okay and be more prudent . I chose this office as great recommendation that was given to me . Than to find out that the doctor that was there was replacing and attending the whole clinic . The doctor that waste there was amazing but the staff needs to be a more mature and honest because my daughter was having a breathing issue and the heat was very high . Many parents had doors open waiting to be attended and like I said as of courtesy the front desk instead of gossiping so much and the medical assistants instead of acting so bothered could have done their job and said we are running late and given us a heads up . Many children get hungry every 3 hours and it is not fair to them . As an adult we can handle many things but not the children . Dr. Chris Zito is the best. He has been my son's caregiver since we moved to NJ in 2021and I am so glad I found him. There is a young lady that works at the front desk at 134 Summit Avenue that is very nice, kind and very professional, honestly, all the staff at th 134 Summit office are much better than the staff at other office located at 55 Summit Avenue. I only go to the 55 Summit Ave office if it's an absolute emergency. Oh, never owe them a dime, they will send you a bill on blue paper and I have been told I could be put into collections, and when that was told to me I owed them $6.42, which no one ever advised me prior to getting a call from their billing office. I also had a woman at the front desk, atvthe 55 Summit Avenue location yell from behind the desk that I had a past due balance that needed to be paid, the waiting room was packed, and it was embarrassing. What made it worse was the fact was my balance was less than $7, yes, $7. I explained to her I didn't know I had a balance, their billing department doesnt notify you in a timely manner, I paid them on the spot. The woman that did this never apologized, and when I spoke to the billing manager, I asked her why don't they call patients as soon as they realize they have a balance, and I had asked what would have happened if I didntvhave the $6.82 to pay them that day, would theyvhavecdenied my son care. Calling patients would be less expensive than spending all that extra money for the blue paper they use for billing. If It wasn't for Dr. Chris Zito, I probably would've found another pediatrician by now, but he is the reason my son is still a patient. If it wasn't for my negative experiences with the front desk and the billing department, I would've given 5 stars overall, but Dr. Zito gets 5 stars from me!! read more

I was referred by my mom who brings my two nieces here. I didn't get a chance to determine if I liked the office or doctors here due to the front desk staff, especially Lisa and whoever was the unhelpful lady who picked up around noon 8/24/23. I wanted to schedule an appointment on different dates for 4 children. I was informed that I needed to sign a medical release form before my children can be seen. That was fine. Lisa went ahead and made a chart with all 4 children's information as well as my private insurance information. That was also fine because less to do when I would arrive I'd figured. Wrong! My children's previous Dr's office faxed over the shot records but stated Children of Joy needs to give me a release form to sign and they will surely provide the information. Mind you this was August 4, 2023 around 10 -11a.m. I had to email Lisa again asking for the form which she did send. This was August 4 again. I got busy handling back to school stuff and was ready to figure out why hasn't anyone responded back to me to schedule appointments. I called 20 days later to the lady who wasn't helpful and she told me she indeed sent over the release form. I called the previous Dr's office and they said they didn't and if they can call so they can guide them through the process. Maybe 3 to 5 minutes pass before I called Children of Joy back, no one picked up. I checked to see if I in fact called the right number and still no one picked up. I'm assuming they screen their calls. I wasn't rude to be clear. Never at any point. After calling for an hour I emailed Lisa twice. First time about what my children's previous dr's office had stated. Then the second time to tell them to disregard all previous emails because this isn't a good fit me or my children. Never in a million years would I have thought to switch doctors would be an issue. I don't know what the issue is but it's not worth going here if you have options. The front desk staff is unprofessional. Might be a nightmare getting paperwork filled out or copy of shot records in a timely manner. Update- The same day I emailed Lisa to disregard all previous emails and stated that this place isn't a good fit, she magically called me. Explaining that she was on vacation and she doesn't know why no one in the office didn't handle the work she was supposed to. Sounds nice but I'm still not come and this was on August 24, 2023. Now on Monday, August 28, 2023 I received another phone call from Lisa again. Now there is an issue with me posting my review accurately about my experience. She calls me at 4:56pm and said she's leaving in a few but to call her back. What a joke! I already told you to disregard everything. I am not bringing nor need to bring my children here. Please stop calling because this office isn't a good fit. Very unprofessional place. read more

Husband took my son here for a WELL visit. They tried to tell him that my son needed a TB test, labs drawn, and a full hearing screen (he already passed one before we came here). When asked why he needed a TB test, "we live in a higher populated area." My son is healthy and has absolutely ZERO risk factors for tuberculosis. Furthermore, I am his mother and a registered nurse, I would know if he was showing any signs he needed this extra testing-- I've also never heard of this? Maybe it's normal to some providers. I'm glad we are moving out of state and I guess we need to find a pediatrician with a more holistic view because invasive testing on a healthy infant isn't my idea of do no harm. read more

Most incompetant staff I've EVER encountered..the Dr's are wonderful and truly are working at a disadvantage, there should be NO room for error in the medical field yet the staff never ceases to amaze me!!!...I give 3 stars cause the Dr's are great..but are having to work with one hand tied behind their backs... I am so happy to have found Children of Joy Pediatrics. After an insurance search and diligent google research, I stumbled upon this office. My entire experience from my initial inquiry call to my actual visit was great. The off the street parking spaces in the rear of the facility was an added bonus. I am use to extremely long wait times and screaming babies in a waiting room at my previous pediatrician. I received prompt and attentive service at all times, nice front desk staff and a detailed triage nurse. Our nurse practitioner Chinasaa (sp) was great. She was thorough without rushing, explained everything from a medical perspective and was very personable. The office is modern and clean. This office was great for mature and transitioning adolescences thar don't want to feel like they are visiting a "baby" Dr. I follow the office on Instagram and they are very informative on social media. It was very important for me to find a Doctors office with people of color and professional office staff. I've officially found my forever Pediatrics office. read more

I have been bringing both my children there since my older one has been 2 she is now 5 and now I take my 1 year old there. This office used to be professional and the girls were nice. I don't know what happened and this was before covid but lately this doctors office has been very unprofessional and never on time with appointments. However, most of the staff the girls answering phones And the girls in front have been nasty and very rude. Appointment times are not kept anymore I could be there with both my children for over a hour to sometimes 2 hours to be seen after my appointment time. Every time it's always doctors are running behind or it's been crazy. No one notifies you that they are behind and don't even check on you while your waiting for a long time. I've been taking my child to Children of Joy since an infant. The providers and medical assistances are wonderful. Dr. Miranda & Dr. Mac are kind, informative, have patience, professional & compassionate. However, the front desk staff are inconsistent in their communication-though they have improved. Another thing is each time I call for an appointment or question I have to try a a couple times or no one answers the phone. I understand due to the pandemic there is a high call volume but you can't even leave a message because the voicemail box is full. Again, front desk aren't rude but they always seem unknowingly sometimes condescending about things. This office does not care about your time or worries. Every time I go with my toddler boy I have to wait for over an hour to be seen by a doctor. The girls at the reception are rude and always have a nasty response to your concerns. If you have 3 hours to waste in a day then take your child there. If anything the friendly staff calls me to remind me of an apt or to book an apt with the Dr I want my daughter to see. Nice staff and excellent nurse. Dr. Soto was great and personable and approachable. The only bad thing: had a 4pm appointment and didn't get called in to see the nurse until 4:35. Then we waited again until doctor was available. She saw us at 5:15 and we left about 5:30. Their new location has more parking. read more

I love children of joy and their doctors. The big problem is the waiting. Every time I have gone, there has been a wait of 2hrs. When you have a sick baby you can't really wait that long. It wasn't always like this but lately they can't seem to keep any of their appointments. I understand sometimes there are emergencies but 2hrs is just not reasonable. I heard other parents complaining about the same problem. I am seriously considering changing doctors for my children. read more

I bring both my sons here. Dr. Miranda, Dr. Steven's and the staff has been very helpful with my youngest. We had to get a special formula for him and they helped out with the insurance authorization. They help out a great deal. The downside is the wait at times. If you make appointments ahead of time, you usually get in on a timely fashion but a last minute appointment you could wait a lot longer. But overall we are happy with the quality of care our son's have received here. read more

My daughter's doctor is great- Dr. Macalental. However, their billing department is a disaster, run by Jasmine, who doesn't contact the insurance company and "forgets to mail" out refunds for months. And then is talking in Spanish the person who picked up- which I understand!!!, talking garbage. Awful experiences trying to get my money back for the last few months. I switched to Children of Joy for my two sons and it's the worst mistake I've ever made. My little one's two appointments so far, I was there 15 minutes before my appointment and had to wait both times 1.5hr to be seen. You don't even get an apology for waiting all that time. The staff is not that great either, unprofessional and unfriendly. To make matters worse I need a copy of the physical for my son tried calling the office three days with no one picking up the phone until the third day, left voicemails only to get called back the fourth day. Thankfully it wasn't anything urgent. According to them I never faxed or email the info, yet I have the emails to prove, again the staff is extremely rude and unprofessional. I don't understand what people are stating that the staff is awful but when I go with my children the staff goes beyond to make my child comfortable. My child is very shy with people she doesn't know especially a doctors office. The girl in the FD was very sweet and kind gave her stickers before even seeing the dr. and when it came to the vision test my daughter didn't want to speak and couldn't point out the project and say their name so one the other girls brought out toys and candy and tried to get to her to speak and finally after 20 minutes of patience she finally started to whispered the objects and we got through the visit and went on our way. Dr. Miranda.... The common denominator here is your staff. I too left for another pediatrician. It was nice working with YOU. However, your staff is extremely rude and inconsiderate. They constantly drop the ball, overbook, forget to send in prescriptions, and barely acknowledge you when you are standing right in front of them to check in/ out. Then you keep saying please address the issue at the time. With whom? The same staff members that were rude to me? Hopefully you take accountability and get your staff in order, or better yet get rid of them and start over. A woman at the front desk was so rude to me on the phone when I called to complain that yet again no one sent in my kid's prescription and I was waiting with my sick baby at the pharmacy. Her response was in a nonchalant tone, "How is that my fault?". Only God stopped me from heading to your office with the rage that went through my body. They are ridiculously irresponsible and unprofessional. They never answer the phone, I had an appointment for 4. I tried to call 3x to say I was running 15 minutes late, no answer. I get there 4:20. Was waiting til 5:10. I walked out. I call to tell them I'm not coming back, no answer. Only the billing department answered which I called at 5:13, I get a call back from the rude girl at the front desk at 5:30 saying they've been calling me and tried to argue with me about the time. BS because I spoke to your billing department 15 minutes before you called and I waited for way too long in a waiting room when I had an appointment. Also asked me "did you tell anyone you were leaving". Like really? Wish I read these reviews beforehand. There are very few MA there that were very kind and one doctor that I saw. But that's all. Currently looking for another ped. DONT BOTHER WITH THIS OFFICE. They're way too unreliable to be a pediatric office. I honestly don't want anyone to go through what I did. I mean where do I start. They always make you wait at least 1 hour, unprofessional and rude staff. One time they left me an appointment for 7 Pm. I insisted for earlier but they said only that was available. When I go there the day of the appointment, the place is closed, I tried to call but no one answered and then I checked online and saw that the place closed at 6. Can you believe this?? And horrible experience with Dr. Miranda Rosa. When my ds had his first vaccine, she literally stabbed him with the needle and he freezes crying! It was so painful to watch. And the next time she tried to put him on tummy time but she was careless and my underweight almost 3 months baby fell on the side of his head. An extremely scaring experience for me as a parent. And she didn't even apologize, she said it was okay nothing would happen. I still cry to this day when I remember what happened. I have no other place to go rn bcz I don't have a car but I'm moving out soon to NY and I couldn't be more happier to go far from this horrible child care. read more

The place has 6, yes 6 ladies behind the reception counter, but I stand there being ignored. I took my kids to this place for about 4 years. I tried all the doctors that work in that places ( one worse that the other). i just don't know how i spent so much time going to that place and making my kids suffer for things that should not be too complicated. Everything was normal for them...They don't have toys for kids to play while longwaiting time, no even towels to use when kids has fever and need a bath...horrible, aah the ladies that handle the paper work in the top floor are very mean..Thank God someone recommended me Dr Ramon Flores and his son Alejandro Flores. Terrible!!! Do not come here. The wait in this office is always at least one hour or more. They had made a mistake by canceling my child's appointment when we never did and when we showed up at the appointment time, we were told to wait because there was a cancelation that we didn't make. They soon found that none of our family member canceled and that it was their fault. There was absolutely no accommodation for the fact they made that appointment mistake and with 4 other children...we waited over an hour before being seen. Meanwhile 4 other patients came in right after we did and were asked to come in to the room...while we waited. It would make anyone angry knowing you are there and ready but yet you continue to take patients who come after you when it was on their part to make the mistake of cancelation. We work in this same field so we know how the wait goes and what you can do to accommodate your patients. I hope this is a lesson learned for their future patients. read more

Thank you COJ for making my decision to switch pediatricians that much easier. My daughter has been going there since birth 16 months ago. We absolutely loved Dr. Lopez but unfortunately she is leaving. I have dealt with long waits because i liked Dr. Lopez. The staff is ok and they try to help. However, within the last month, my daughter has been sick non-stop and we have had to go more times than wanted. There have been a few instances that made me second guess my decision to stay with them. They never wrote down my daughters first dose of flu shot in the system (Thank God I keep the yellow card up to date) and long waits. However, my last phone call to them has sealed the deal! I will be going to a new doctor. My daughter had an ear infection (which was never caught at COJ but at pm pediatrics) and was put on antibiotic. A few days later she had to be taken off of antibiotic due to an allergic reaction (which they know because we went in for followup). Yesterday she was super cranky and touching her ear so I called them in fear that the infection was back. JUST AN EAR CHECK!!!! Well apparently they were so busy they couldn't squeeze me in....I was willing to wait!!!! Nope. They told me to come in on saturday (sick visit day) instead but i didn't want to wait especially with the holiday weekend. So i paid my urgent care copay and went to PM Pediatrics. Thankfully no ear infection. I have worked at doctors offices and know how things work! I get it, they were busy, but it was just an ear check!!!! I could do it myself if i had the tool!!!! If God forbid, there had been an infection, I would be willing to wait all night to speak to the doctor to decide what medicine we could put her on but to just turn me away was wrong. Most of the doctors I have seen there are just ok or covering doctors. The only one worth going there for was Dr. Lopez.... read more
