Every time we come to Rochester we look for good Chinese food and now we can stop searching. It is extremely difficult to find good black pepper chicken. Anywhere. Nobody offers it, and if they do they do a slapdash job. This place has the best black pepper chicken I've eaten: just crispy enough, perfectly seared sliced veggies, not too saucy, good peppery bite. I like thick noodles in my lo mein. They use the thick noodles. I like the pork tinged red at the edge. They've got the red tinge. Egg rolls are thicc! The potsticker sauce has layers of flavor and you can see that care was taken to make it well. On top of it all, this place has the cleverest and most thorough COVID-19 takeout setup I've seen anywhere, so I felt totally safe getting takeout. 15 minutes after ordering we picked up 4 eaters' worth of food, including appetizers, for under $50. read more

Was craving some Chinese food (was just asking for some simple chow mein and orange chicken- ya know like Panda Express)- China 1 hit the spot. Come in for dinner and get all fresh entrees! They make it on the spot upon order. Got the Orange Chicken Dinner Special: Comes with your choice of fried rice (chicken, pork, or shrimp ($2 extra), vegetable egg rolls or crab rangoons, and your entree of choice. The orange chicken was great! It was definitely made with real orange peels- the citrus taste was very apparent. The chicken was not too soft or hard. Got the Vegetable Lo Mein: If you want chow mein (panda express style- noodles), get the Lo Mein! Authentic Chinese Chow Mein is something else. Don't make that mistake- I warned you. :P The lo mein is great- comes with different vegetables and is not too oily. Service deserves five stars! They're very nice and warm. The food here is excellent and reasonably priced. Also the service is great. I was very impressed with all the changes they made for social distancing. They closed off the sitting area and covered the cashier space with plexiglass. There is a section between you and the cashier where the ordered food is placed. The cashier has a door to that area and you have a separate door. The credit card machine is also behind the plexiglass with a slot for your cc. I walked out of there feeling germ free. The only things I had to touch were the door handles. I really hope this place survives the pandemic. They really put a lot of effort into keeping us safe. read more

We are in town visiting and we really wanted Chinese. I checked yelp to find a nearby Chinese place that had good reviews and this place came up. Good: everything was reasonably priced including a pint of egg drop soup for only 1.85 and a dinner special(entree, choice of rice, and egg roll/shrimp roll/crab Rangoon) was 7.95. Bad: quality of the food met the price levels. The egg roll was extremely dry with too big of coating that retained too much of the oil it was fried in Good: the general tso's chicken I ordered was very good with chicken that appeared to be good chicken Bad: the orange chicken my fiancée ordered was grayish black and looked more like pork than chicken. The orange sauce on the chicken was very average with a little too strong of orange taste Good: the lady taking our order was super friendly and quick Bad: although they have seating at the restaurant there should not be. If they aren't going to clean ever then it makes it hard to want to eat here. One table had orange peels on it while another table had a half eaten plate on it. It was hard finding a clean table and there was no one else there when we went. As others have noted the food is served on styrofoam with plastic utensils. Overall I probably wouldn't come back and if I did get their food again I would get delivered. Despite the construction and unassuming interior, the food was absolutely delicious. I cannot recommend the handmade crab rangoons highly enough. My only complaint was that the fried rice (that comes on the side of the dinners) was a bit bland, but they did have some sauces that helped with that! The food we ordered from China 1 via Waiter Express was not at all what we expected. We ordered the sweet and sour chickens and received a large styrofoam container of fried chicken pieces and a separate container of sweet and sour sauce. I have never been served sweet and sour sauce that way - it usually comes with pineapple, bell peppers, etc. We also ordered fried rice, which oddly had raw onions in it. Aren't those supposed to be cooked? Finally, the Dragon and Phoenix we ordered was okay - but it was supposed to be spicy. There was no heat to it at all... I was really disappointed with the food. I had the Szechuan chicken and crab Rangoon, they were both delicious. The crab Rangoon was buttery and sweet, rhe best I ever had. I would highly recommend this place. I found it while searching Apple maps and looking at the reviews. Five star reviews are right on the money and the prices are very reasonable. I wish they were in Raleigh, North Carolina. We tried this restaurant a couple of years ago for the first time. Since then, my friends and I are almost weekly regulars. Their dishes are all really tasty. I especially like their chicken conpao and veggies chicken plate. Their orange chicken and beef conpao are other good ones too. The fact that they are pretty close by to where I work and commute is great. Although their inside is a little depressing and almost always smelling like soy sauce, it's generally ok. The food more than makes up for the pure d awful atmosphere of the place, thank heavens! It's about as stark and unwelcoming as a grade school cafeteria. The staff, however, is very friendly and helpful. The food is definitely something to write home about! Excellent flavor and ready promptly. But again, the ambiance is really lacking. Styrofoam plates, plastic utensils, paper napkins, uncomfortable seating... if they'd pay more attention to things like that they would probably be even more popular than they already are. Hands down the best Chinese food we've had in MN in the nearly 10 years we've been here. The crab Rangoon are also the best. Light, and crispy, not very oily and just the right amount of delish filling! The Szechuan chicken has just the right amount of heat, tender chicken and more variety of veggies than I've seen. The pork fried rice is not oily like many others and is perfect with the spicy sauce. Their sweet and sour pork is also amazing! Light and crispy (again, NOT over oily) and the pork is so tender! I honestly have never tried Chinese food in Rochester. I've never been the biggest fan of Asian cuisine and I was craving sone the other day. I stopped in here because it had the best reviews in town. I wasn't sure about the cleanliness of the place at first the excellent service and food made me a believer of this place. It is a family run, which I really appreciated. I came here for take-out on a week day evening and was the only customer. They were so nice and friendly to me and helped me figure out the menu. The amount of food I got for the price was unbelievable. I got three large entrees, a side and a appetizer sampler. I'd say it was enough food to feed 6 people probably. I really appreciated how they made everything fresh to order. The beef meat in the Lo mein was very good! I also really liked the orange chicken and cream cheese wontons. I wasn't the biggest fan of the egg rolls or fried rice. The sweet and sour chicken was just fried chicken pieces, which was not what I was expecting but not bad. read more

Great Chinese food and has to be one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest in Rochester. Used to only go to China star but will go here much more often because it's on same level (if not a little better) than the other Chinese food places in town and cheaper.
