The food wasn't good at all, the taste was sour and disgusting. I'm sorry for saying it like this but I have to tell the truth

This place had some of the tastiest Chinese food around. Their boneless ribs with a slight orange flavor were our favorite, but I believe something changed (new owners maybe?). We ordered 2 boneless ribs today with fried rice and a large wonton soup. The ribs were fatty and tough, and didn't have that orange flavor we were used to. The fried rice was dry and tasteless. The wontons had the smallest filling I've ever seen in a wonton. Very disappointing. read more

Had to grab lunch so I stopped in to Chin Gourmet. Because I only had a short break I ordered the steamed dumplings. I was very happy with my choice. They were great! A great portion that comes with ginger sauce. The only recommendation I have it to serve the ginger sauce warm as it was quite cold. The inside isn't the nicest to sit in and eat a meal. Certainly not a place to take someone on a date. Nevertheless at he food was great. I will be back. read more

Decided to stop and get some late night lo mein & this place didn't disappoint! Food was pretty good, still hot when I got home. Shrimp were scarce, but for the price you get what you pay for & the flavor was pretty good. Noodles were a little softer than I like them, BUT I called my food in about 25 minutes before they closed so I can't hold that against them. The ordered takeout, but the inside looked clean and in order; looked like most Chinese restaurants around here do I suppose. Man behind the counter was kind for the 5 seconds we interacted. I literally walked in, picked up my food, and he told me to have a good day. I lived in South Korea and had "real" Korean and Chinese food, so I may be a little biased.. I am sorry to have to write this for I have been a customer for a few years now. Today I ordered shrimp egg foo young. The egg pancakes contained very little if any veggies in them and the shrimp were crunchy (a first for me). The gravy was the color of breast milk and extremely salty. I have never had beige/ yellow gravy with this dish and I'm in my 70's, it has always been brown. The dish was so unappetizing that after about 2 or 3 mouthfuls I threw the entire dish in the trash. I was and am so disappointed thinking I'd try something other than my usual order of one of the Hunan plates. Eggs are too expensive to be mutilated in a dish like this. read more

The prices are very reasonable and the service is fast. Orders are ready in about 10 minutes. The food is really hot. My husband got chicken and mixed vegetables. It was really good. I got shrimp chow mein. Instead of white sauce it was just boiling water. The lunch combos come with rice and egg roll. It's a lot of food. The tea was good. There are only a few places to sit. We have had a hard time finding what we consider excellent Chinese food in the Gastonia area. We had hi hopes for this spot after reading the reviews. We made a fairly large take out order by phone. I will say the order was made fast and the up front staff are excellent. We ordered General Sao chicken, Beef egg foo young, Kung Pao Chicken, and House Lo mein. The chicken dishes were pretty good. I had chicken wings & fried rice. The wings were small & bland. I don't even think they were fried, not really breaded/battered. More of a broil? I'm not sure but I've never had Chinese wings cooked like that before. The fried rice had one pea, two carrots & no flavor. I'm not being dramatic. The service & wait time was great. This place gives A LOT of fried rice with the combo meals, which is normally AWESOME, but this fried rice was a little lacking in flavor for me. It hardly had any vegetables in it too; it was mostly just a gigantic mound of rice. Lunch meals are $6.25-$7.95 Mondays-Saturdays 10:30am-3pm. Since I was ordering outside of this time, I ended up getting the Beef with Garlic Sauce combination plate, $9.99 and come with fried rice or white rice plus an egg roll. I thought the meat was great! The sauce was flavorful too. The meat was cooked with green bell peppers, carrots, onion, bamboo shoots, and water chestnuts. The bell peppers are too chunky for my liking, and I really did not care for the slightly soggy egg roll that lacked crispiness to it, but this place got the main part of my meal right so I am giving them credit for that! read more

I loved this place when we moved to Dallas. It was atleast a once a week lunch for us. I'm not sure what happened since covid struck but the food has gone way down hill. My normal chicken lo Mein now always taste like it's been sitting out for a few hours, the chicken is chewy like jerky and noodles soggy in one giant clump. We loved it before and hopefully will love it again. read more

Just ordered last night pork egg foo young and it seemed so bad compared to other times I have ordered from here and I had a little last night and again a couple of hours ago and pretty positive now it has given me diarrhea. Truck driver that's been coast to coast here. Eating Chinese from San Fran to Florida to New York. But this place has left a mark in my soul. The best egg rolls and spring rolls in the nation. This was our first experience with China Gourmet so I ordered lots of different dishes: Teriyaki beef Chicken wings Pan fried dumplings Crispy chicken and scallions Mongolian beef Fried rice Chinese donuts We LITERALLY could not eat the Teriyaki beef it was so tough. The Chinese donuts were actually the best thing we ordered. Everything else was just barely okay; like a C- or D+ I really wanted to like this place...smh. Never again. read more

The service is nice, table service if you eat in. The food is hot and delicious, the look is just like any other Chinese restaurant. The downside is that they load the food with oils and is hard to taste it properly. But if you want some Chinese food fast and hot this is the place to go. read more

I have eaten at China Gourmet since I was a kid. I have eaten Chinese food everywhere, and no matter where I've been, I cannot find any that compares to China Gourmet. Hunter's food is the best! This is without a shadow of a doubt my all time favorite Chinese restaurant. Hunter and his crew cook EVERYTHING made to order and with some of the freshest ingredients they can find. Some of our favorites include Schezuan Beef, Chicken and Broccoli, Hot and Spicy Soup, and the Crab Rangoon. But honestly everything that we've ordered has been great! When you pick up your food, you'll almost always be greeted by Hunter and he'll make sure you have all of the sauces, utensils and fortune cookies you need to make your meal spot on. Born in New York there is tons of amazing Chinese Food. When we moved to Las Vegas .... there was none. Finally after moving again to Gastonia, N.C. I have finally found decent Chinese Food. Hunter the manager is like a one man show, he runs the front of he business with such ease... between taking orders and fulfilling tickets he is amazing. Like I said his food is pretty good too!
