This location seems to care less and less about their customers. Today I order two combo meals for pickup, I asked for sauces-soy, spicy mustard, and sweet and sour sauce. There was a Noticeable delay in her recapping the order. After my guy brings home the food the receipt shows she charged us ten cents for each tiny package of sauce! There was no mention of an additional charge for adding the sauces. It's Absolute nonsense to be this petty. I can't imagine how they feel justified in sliding in additional fees for something that has always been free. I could understand if I asked for fifty or some other preposterous amount but four of each? Never give napkins, no utensils, and now pay a fee for sauces! It's good clean Chinese food if your in the area... the regular take out items are offered. There's a few seats available to sit in if you needed to dine in. I called my order in it was ready in about 10min so no complaints about thier service And when I asked for extra duck sauce they gladly offered more. read more

Ordered shrimp egg foo young and let me tell you that was the NASTIEST crap I've ever tasted in my life!! I've had shrimp egg foo young many times elsewhere and it's never tasted like that. It tasted as if they just dumped an entire bag of sugar in it and served it with a side of mushy unseasoned rice. The shrimp was also nasty and had a funny taste to it. Delicious Chinese food. Their Hot & Sour soup is the best in Baltimore. An excellent broth base. They do a great Lo Mein, maybe a little more gravy. I try to get something different each time, and it's always very good. Now, it's just for pick up, they don't have enough staff to maintain tables and if you want utensils and all that, you need to ask for them. But the food is fresh and very flavorful. I will never make the mistake again of going to this place. I decided to try it out because it's close to where I live and I love some good Chinese. They have a big bright sign that really gets your attention. When I walked in the place the guy behind the counter was a little short with me. He said what do you want as if he was rushing me. After asking to see a menu and to give me a little time he then walked away for my wife and I to decide. I ordered the Shrimp Fried Rice. The best thing about this place is it didn't take long for my order to be ready, but I would soon see why. The rice was dry and tasted like it had been sitting there all day. The shrimp was Ok, but didn't really have much flavor. I don't even think it was sauteed. I wouldn't feed this crap to my dog. Never again. read more

These people are so unprofessional and rude. I went to this place at 10pm (they close at 11) for plain white rice. The front door was open and the open sign was on so I entered the restaurant. I sat in front of the order window for about 5 minutes and the 2 male workers did not acknowledge me. They proceeded to smoke cigarette's inside towards the back of the kitchen. Eventually one guy said "we're closed" and went out the back door leaving me in the front waiting area alone. read more

Let me just say that I used to really like China House. It's really close, prompt service, and delicious. I would go in to see them peeling shrimp in the back, cutting veggies, hard at work on the wok, and so forth. But that was under the old management. I don't recognize any of the old staff and the atmosphere has changed along with the flavor. Most often there's one lady up front who's doing all the ordering and taking calls. She's been quite rude to me over the phone after ordering food and I've received incorrect orders despite being ultra clear on the menu items using their numbered listings. The calls usually end with "Ok bye" curtly with no price or no estimated wait time to come in. Service aside, the food has dropped too. All the menu items are the same as the previous owners but something just isn't right with it. I used to get the lo mein but that's SUPER greasy now and it's kind of sickening to eat. The chicken wings are noticeably smaller and the fries are usually soggy and limp. The Singapore mei fun is flavorless and not even spicy anymore. I would avoid this place unless you want mediocre Chinese food if you have a craving. It's mostly terrible now with bad service. read more

I like spicy food, I ordered Shrimp Fried Rice, and Hunan Beef & Broccoli. I told the young lady taking my order that I wanted it very spicy. The Shrimp Fried Rice was fine but the Hunan Beef & Broccoli wasn't even close to being spicy. Does any one know where you can get real Sezchuan or Hunan Chinese food in Essex? As a local, I have done takeout from China House a number of times. Overall it is adequate Chinese food when you need that fix or a quick meal. Sometimes the food is awesome and other times it can be bland. The quality is inconsistent which is why I gave it only 3 stars. We just had a very pleasant lunch experience here. The man who took our order was honest and helped us decide what to eat. Once we sat down, he was kind enough to bring us our food as it was ready. It was all served very hot and was tasty. The pad thai was great as was the hot & sour soup. Nothing fancy inside but good service and food which is all I need. read more
