My wife and I came here for take out this evening and we were not impressed at all!!!! I ordered the cashew chicken and she ordered the combo plate #1 (sweet and sour pork, fried shrimp, pork lo mein, bbq pork, and fried rice) and we were both very unimpressed with the food we were served! My cashew chicken consisted of unseasoned chicken and soggy cashews and her combo dinner came with 2 pieces of sweet and sour pork, lo mein that had almost no noodles, and bbq pork with no bbq. The waitress that took our order was very kind and the inside of the restaurant was very nice looking but the food was an absolute disaster. I am planning on going back one more time to see if the lunch specials are as much of a flop as the dinner menu (the restaurant is open 11-2 and 5-9) and will be making a separate review of that experience but as far as the dinner specials go ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! They could have adjusted their DoorDash status but had not. I won't order from them again if they can just cancel after I have waited 20 minutes. read more

Traditional steamed dumplings with dipping sauce that tastes just like New Years! This place also has good Americana food for the picky and unadventurous in your family. I'm very disappointed with China Inn. We always ask for extra green onions on our beef fried rice. On this last order there were little to none on our orders. I ask cashier to tell kitchen to add green onions to the supposedly "extra green onions" I ordered over the phone. She tells me it be a few minutes because they were busy. I said ok. A minute went by the cashier comes back and said they are out of green onions and the limited onions were the last on my order. I call bullshit. They just didn't want to give my extra green onions I ordered. They lost business with us! read more

My food tasted ok, but the fried rice didn't even have any egg or veggies in it. The prices on the main menu seem kind of high for being a 1 $ restaurant. Then you don't even pay at the table. Sunday specials were reasonably priced though and large portions. read more

Three letters: PHO!!! Is this the only Pho in Newton? Maybe. Though it didn't come with fresh basil, it came with all the other stuff and was delicious. I had a hankering for Pho and it's nice to have it here without having to traipse all the way to Wichita. We also had crab rangoon - hot, fresh, and delicious. Hubby had sweet and sour pork with fried rice. Though the fried rice didn't have peas and carrots in it, he gave that and the pork a big thumbs up. We came just before the rush and that place was pretty much hoppin' when we left (Friday night). We could see the register area, and there were about as many takeout orders as there were people seated and eating in (about 8-9 of each group during the time we were there). There are some decorations, and the fish mural is beautiful. The rest of the restaurant is pretty much Tan City in color, so it could use a bit more pizzazz that way. The wait staff is very nice and attentive. Our waitress was born in Indonesia and she was a sweetheart. We will definitely return! read more

Of the four Chinese restaurants in town (plus you can get Chinese food to go at Dillon's), this is the best of the bunch, but that's not saying much. Overall the food here is generally fair and tolerable at best, although the last few times it was more in the mediocre category. Uninspired sauces, poor cooking technique, limited menu choices, bland tastes all contribute. The service staff (which seems to be college students) has been generally friendly, usually performing adequately, but with constant turnover. The last time I was there a few weeks ago the girl serving was pretty clueless, which seemed to match the even more mediocre food. This is a cash only place. read more

Had a business meeting in Newton, KS and was craving so Chinese food found China Inn Restaurant from a quick search online. The food was amazing and cery authentic conpared to the typical chinese food joints around. They also have a unique homemade hot sauce which was incredible. My server Sharon was very kind and her service was flawless. Will come back again!! read more

Gross just no. Got to the mall for cheap Chinese cause this place is gross, zero flavor. I understand that it is American Chinese food but it's terrible. I didn't even eat my take out, I threw it away and at a sandwich at home. Seriously go make a sandwich. Never again. read more

They moved from a previews location and re-opened on Dec 16. Much nicer decor. New menu; previous menu was too large and difficult to know what to choose. I've heard they now focus on what they do best. Large portions. Good service. read more

Been here quite a few times. The food is good but a bit on the bland side, although that seems very much the norm for Chinese type foods in this part of the US. You can order food spiced up which I do every time. Dishes are done very well, prices good - especially the lunch specials with good portions. The food here is SO much better than any of those "same-as-everyone-else-buffetts." The taste is less "processed" than most Chinese food we get in small town rural KS. Very fresh & unique (for the middle of KS), large portions, good prices, and the best egg rolls around. (Not sure what was going on in '06 w/the reviewer that said it was "fair & tolerable at best," because it has been exceptionally tasty every time I've been there over the past few years). read more

Well the egg drop soup sucked, the egg rolls are horrid and the kung pao is not kung pao; however whatever it is is actually pretty good! +1 stars for the best wanna be kung pao ever, +1 for hiring locals. -3 for solidifying that Kansas Chinese isn't, at the least, American Chinese. Been going to this restaurant since I was little. Grew up on their homemade eggrolls and their hot sauce. I never had a problem with them, and always left satisfied. Even if there were some misunderstandings in the order or whatever. The employees and owners were always willing to work something out! it's now 2011 and the now accept cards! Woohoo! read more

Food was great. Don't let the exterior fool you. Interior is surprisingly nice. Good quantity of food for your $. Only real negative is it's a very noisy dining room. Definitely not good for a romantic meal or business meeting, unless your business is listening to everyone else's business. If it weren't so noisy I would have said five stars. read more
