When we first moved to town, we were excited there was a local Chinese spot, as our family LOVES Chinese food. We have been here a couple of times, and unfortunately, have never really been too impressed. Is it edible? YES. However, there's just...something missing...maybe a lot missing. I don't know. Not a place I would bring someone visiting us if they wanted Chinese food. Service on the other hand has always been top notch. And everyone has always been very nice and attentive when we've dined in. It's nice and quiet, and plenty of seating. Now that there is another spot in town that offers Asian food, we likely won't return here. Very unfortunate as there is so much potential for a good Chinese spot here in town. read more

I have no idea about the negative comments I have seen about this restaurant, but I can say that there was absolutely nothing wrong with their service and delicious Chinese food tonight! I got what I think is called the Triple Delight with chicken, beef, shrimp and sautéed vegetables. It was outstanding and the lady who took my order couldn't have been more helpful and kind. I usually have no issues with this restaurant, however, today I went to eat there around 6-7pm yesterday. (July 6th). I ordered the combination fried rice, there was hair all in my plate. When I called the waitress over and tried to address the situation, she proceeds to hold up my plate in front of everyone, saying there was nothing on my plate so I told her to look closer and she pulls the hairs out and throws them and says "So, do you want another plate?" I said no, and they still made me pay for my plate. There was no apology, no effort to try to fix the situation, nothing. read more

Ordered takeout from this place tonight. We usually dine in but got take out tonight. Spent $42 dollars on food for my wife and I. They gave me this small container of hot mustard with the meal. When I asked for a two more, the rude lady said I had to pay .55 cent for each. I have never been to a Chinese place where they charge you extra for hot mustard. We eat there at least twice a month and spend anywhere between $30 and $45 dollars each time. That's approximately $75 bucks that I spend there a month. I will never, ever go to this place again. They sacrificed a steady customer for $1.10 over two baby size mustards. Really more that that because my kids go there and have dinner sometimes on the weekends also. honestly my orange chicken was SO gooey and it tasted like soy sause. that's all soy sauce and gooey chicken. so i asked if it can be taken off my ticket or i change it and they said "you ordered it you pay for it" so i definitely don't recommend coming here. absolutely trash service from the "manger" and the waitress jessica was nice. everyone else stood around and did almost nothing. the only thing good in our order was the fried rice. mind you it was so dry. and the triple delight meet was chewy like rubber .. anyways the service 0.0 food 0.0 overall 0.0. I think its time. I have attempted a few times to give this place the benefit of the doubt but in reality the one star shouldn't be given. Initial visit, I trialed the lunch buffet. Walked in with an older gentleman simply sitting down in front of a television on his cell phone didn't greet or acknowledge my walk in. Cool, no biggie. I was eventually greeted by a waitress who oddly ran into the restaurant as I was parking nearly hitting her. I was the only person dining in and food was cold. I politely asked if there was something wrong with the burners (since you could hear them on) I am stared at and simply told they are on. I asked if I could have my plate warmed up, even if in a microwave. She asked the man sitting down still on his cell phone playing some game app, mind you I was practically standing next to him and he said "No". Fine whatever. I was hungry and on a time schedule of errands. I was offered soup and chose both so I could determine which I preferred. The soup was HOT as to be expected yet my food was tasteless and became more cold/sticky. So I enjoyed the soups. Appeared to be a solo cook in the tiny kitchen who seemed bored. At the end of my meal requesting my check the waitress recommended ordering off the menu next time. Well next time came. I came to dine in for an early dinner with my 7yr old. I walked in with a happy meal and small drink, my son is still adventuring with certain food. I was immediately scolded at the front door by a woman "read sign no outside food!" I apologized as I honestly didn't see the small handwritten pen sign on the door. Restaurant empty. Now here we are again. I had a craving. I call in for pick up asking for a Large spicy vegetable lo mein. Employee states "uh there's only ONE SIZE" My thought was okay is that a lunch serving since it's lunch or is this dinner portion, which dinner portion is what I wanted as I am preparing a semi home made meal. The lo mein was the addition. She repeats her self as if I am a burden with what I am asking. "I said it's the same size" I had to BARNEY size my inquiry. Meaning, lunch portion/dinner portion/carton/box??? One, customer service is lowest grade. Two, if I am asking obviously I do not know what this restaurants portion size means. After the back and forth ending with this employee "I already told you IT'S ONE SIZE" No ma'am actually you did NOT tell me you just keep repeating yourself. It's very sad as I am not one to budget cost when I find a good food venue. I can splurge every day every week. Meaning, I am a dedicated customer if you are worth my time and appreciation that I am even considering your location. The sad part of it all is this what we have come down to. Poor quality in food but even more so with your customer service. Even as a parent I feel bad knowing these young people have no idea of mannerism or the understanding of people. How do they not know if I am someone with a disability and NEED the explanation? This isn't the case but it's a factor. Definitely not a needed space and should be replaced. read more

I just recently moved back in the area and have been looking for an Asian restaurant. We came from an area where Asian restaurants were plentiful and all very good. Competition was great in the area. I must say I was disappointed with the quality of the food in the area. I have tried all of the restaurants . This one in my opinion is not very good. Fried rice was just rice with soy sauce. I had a beef and vegetable dish and my wife had her sesame chicken. All things considered I will not go back. So, it's cheap Chinese food. If you go into this experience expecting anything more, you will be disappointed. We did take out and got a variety: lo mein, Ma Po Tofu, Mandarin Beef, some Crab Rangoon, and soup and dumplings. Everything was just fine. The egg rolls that come with the meal are solid. My Ma Po Tofu was delightfully spicy and tangy. The lo mein was lo mein. The egg drop soup was egg drop soup. For $8 an entree that includes an egg roll, I feel like I got exactly what I paid for. The folks that run the place were friendly, very up on their COVID precautions, my order was ready on time, and the place appeared clean. I see all these Austinites reviewing this place and complaining and all I can think is 'you came all the way to Lockhart for cheap Chinese food?' Please. my coworker went to get food for the office from this place yesterday. we all ordered the same lo mein and chicken togo. when we opened up the togo boxes it smelled so bad everybody was wondering what was wrong. it kinda smelled like San Antonio zoo. I found this little gem of a restaurant a couple of years ago when I moved to Lockhart. I could not get enough of this place... It really is that good.. The General Tso's chicken is spot-on, the egg rolls are epic. So much so that even though I moved from Lockhart back to Austin a year ago, I STILL make the drive down to Lockhart to see my friends, the John and his lovely wife, and pick up the best Chinese food in the state when I get the craving. Not a single Chinese food restaurant in Austin comes close to being as great as this place. I highly recommend China Palace to anyone. Generous portions, fantastic service, excellent quality. Sad I had to take back my 5 star review of this place because we once really enjoyed it, but tonight was disappointing. We ordered a take out and were served rotten chicken. We tried to call back and asked to be refunded for the 2 servings of chicken we had ordered and offered to pay for our rice and egg rolls. The owner/manager did not care this food was spoiled, instead he laughed over the phone and refused to refund me for the chicken if I did not bring it back...it was in the trash at this point. We will unfortunately not be returning. I have also read other comments about their chicken tasting "funky" so I am not this first one with this problem. read more

Best hot and sour soup, general tsos, dumplings, EGG ROLLS (omg), lo mein, Kung pao, and last but definitely my personal fave, MOO SHOO PORK. Just moved here and my husband really wanted Chinese after mass. I've read the reviews before I came here. I ordered the pork fried rice, wonton soup, chicken two-style, and happy family. The pork fried rice is mostly deep fried pork and hardly any rice. Wonton soup tasted like just chicken broth with sesame oil. Chicken two-style was my husband's favorite but only liked the name. Sauce for the two style tasted like duck sauce you get in the packets. And the happy family tasted like it had hoisin sauce and oyster sauce together. I would keep this place at a one star. It was definitely questionable, so I didn't get more than a few bites in.
