Wow!! I have been on a mission to find great Asian food in Texas for the last fifteen years. I finally found it while rushing to get some food during a break in jury duty! I tried to find something "different" to avoid the lunch rush. What better than the side cafe in a Thai market? As hoped, it more than met the expectations. You turn left in the market and order from the cashier. There's some paper menus. Then you go to the other side and find a seat. Shortly afterwards this older gentleman will deliver the most amazing Thai meal you can imagine. Oh man, it almost makes me wish I get called up on jury duty again. I went with a classic Pad Thai lunch menu. Came with a wonderful spring role and some soup. Both were excellent. The Pad Thai was just insanely good. It's been about 20 years since I've been to Thailand so maybe my taste buds are aged, but it made me think I was back. My first visit to this place was during Covid. By mistake I was driving in San Marcos not knowing what to do with the social distancing.... I pretty much ordered the whole menu back then... now recently I went back with my friends. It is still the way I remember it! You order at the counter and you can go around the supermarket waiting for your food The sweetest old man was doing the service at the tables. Every time he came around I wanted to get up and give him a hug! It definitely doesn't feel like Texas or even the US... even the drinks you can grab them from the cooler are Asian! Wow, y'all. Being from Houston - with its amazing food scene - I was skeptical when a colleague of mine insisted that I try Prik Nam Pa in San Marcos. But holy smokes, this place is legit! The yellow curry with chicken rocked my world, and the roti banana dessert sent me off into the most wonderful food coma. My son and I have been craving Pad Thai but haven't found a place that looked good to us in San Antonio. Plus we always put the price into play. Most Thai food in San Antonio seems expensive- for us anyways lol. Since we took a trip to San Marcos we looked and found this little hole in the wall store/ restaurant. They only have 4-5 tables inside the little Asian Market they have but it seems they get a lot of take away. They have split hours and found out Yelp and Google say the restaurant closes at 3pm but actually close at 2:30pm for a couple hours and reopen at 5pm for dinner service. They do have a lunch menu with items starting at 9.99$ (pad Thai) and going up to 12.99$ and they have a regular menu with curry's, fried rice etc. Very responsible prices While we waited we checked out the few aisles of Asian items in the "store". Ending up spending and extra $20 on my kids favorite noodles that are hard to find. They have a small selection of fresh veggies and fruit. Tons of noodles. Sauces. Curries. Plus a freezer with the most popular Asian items to cook with . Within just minutes an older gentleman brought us ice water and some yummy fried wontons and sauce to snack on. I love fried wontons so this was a plus! Within another 5-7 minutes he brought out our beautiful plates of pad Thai. Fresh. Hot. Smelled sooooo good. The gentleman at the store who took our order was the best. Great customer service and great food! We're already trying to plan to go back!! I was excited to try out the Thai food scene in San Marcos and came across this Asian supermarket with a restaurant in it, I was excited to try it out! I liked the ambiance of a family-owned market/restaurant. Pad Thai - This wasn't the best Pad Thai I ever had, but I loved the flavors in this dish. It was too sweet for my palate, but I could still enjoy the different flavors and textures. Loved the crunchiness of peanuts in this dish! A plus - this was a huge portion! To say I was pleasantly surprised to find this place is an understatement. They have the best bowl of beef boat noodle soup that I've had since Thai Town Los Angeles, CA. I wasn't expecting much from this area and was searching for some noodle soups after hitting up the premium outlet. We are so happy we found this hole in the wall place and had a chance to try their food. Items ordered: * beef boat noodle soup $12.99 - 5 star, absolutely nothing I would change about this dish * tom yum noodle soup w/pork $12.99 - 5 star, love everything but wish they would give a side of peanuts or add it to the soup * pad kee mao w/chicken $12.99 - 4 star, lacks a little bit of salt and seasoning. This fell a little more on the blander side. Try one of their steam buns. I had the bbq pork one and went back for three more before I left. They were out of Thai tea and Thai coffee. Aside from purchasing directly from the market, they offered hot tea or water from the kitchen station. Every dish came out one at a time but they provided complimentary wonton chips. This is a mini market that sells some essential Asian groceries with a few tables inside for dine-in. The cashier appears to also wait on tables and might also be the chef! I noted many people ordered for takeout while we were waiting on our food. The downside is that they have 5 tables for dine-in and the food does take some time to prepare. Food was delicious, hot, and good portioned. I got the Massaman Curry, which is my favorite curry, and I was glad to find it was just as good as other places I've been to. The service was quick, attentive, and kind. The food came out right away, ice water was brought without asking, and so was a small appetizer of a small bowl of battered chips and sweet sauce. The ambiance is great, lots of plants and greenery, decent seating 20 seats total, and with a small Asian food market/grocery. I was struggling to find Asian markets or good Asian food in San Marcos. The closest Asian markets I knew of were in north Austin - so far! I needed to prep food for Lao New Year, and heard about this place. I went and I was surprised with how much it had in this tiny market. I was so happy! I got majority of my ingredients from here. It was nice being in a locally owned Asian market, where I haven't really seen them in the San Marcos area. Will definitely be coming back! read more

I moved here from California about a year ago, and this has been my favorite Thai spot I've tried since I moved to San Marcos. I have to say, from the very first time the food has been remarkable. The restaurant has a very relaxed ambiance, though it is small, and the dining area is just off the market. The market has a lot of great options for stored items as well as fresh produce typically not found here in town. The service is wonderful, as they are always very kind, and the food comes out relatively quick considering the care most of these dishes take. My favorite entree is the Tom Kha soup with chicken and fried tofu served with a side of rice. It is consistent every time, and reminds me of the Thai food I used to enjoy back home with family. The complimentary fried wontons and sweet and sour sauce is the cherry on top when visiting this gem. read more

The FIL wanted to take everyone out to a Chinese buffet. What is the elderly fascination with buffets, anyway? After reading the reviews of a couple local establishments, we knew we needed to redirect. We saw that Prik Nam Pla had good reviews. The FIL also likes Thai food, so we convinced him to try it out. Readers, it didn't disappoint. The ambiance is a little lacking. Some tables off to the side of a small Asian market in a strip mall, but isn't that always a good sign? While we were there, they did a steady take out business. The food was excellent. The service was also outstanding as a gentleman doted on our party of eight. I had the Tom Yum soup special. The ingredients were fresh, the broth lemongrass and lime forward. A nice spicy sour slurp. My wife got the pad see ewe with chicken. It had a great balance of protein, veg, noodle and sauce. The FIL ordered the Tom Kha Ga soup and ate it all with gusto. Not bad for an old guy fresh off a round of dialysis. Everyone across the board was very happy. I went to San Marcos Outlets for shopping and realized they don't have good restaurants. So I came here to have Asian foods and I believe it was great choice. Their Pad Thai was good and beef noodle soups was delicious. Can't say it's impressive but pretty good. Pad Kee Mao was not good tho. Too greasy and not various ingredients unlike others. This a a great mom and pop place. It is a grocery store that also has a kitchen. It isn't fancy and they have added some tables . It started out just some hot food to go and now days it has a few small tables. I almost hate to post a five star review because this is a hidden gem I want to keep for myself. However the owners are so sweet and kind and their food is delicious. This past weekend, I took my parents here. My father had been stationed in Thailand many years ago and knew Thai greetings so when the owner came out and my father greeted him in Thai it created a nice exchange. Apparently my Dad's accent was pretty good. It was a joyful lunch. And the food was fantastic! Over the past years I've eaten most of the menu. I'm new to San Marcos, coming from ATX and I've had a lot of Thai food. I've been struggling to find good food here so I was pretty happy to find this little place. The guy that served me was more than friendly and offered some water while I waited for my food. He politely told me they were out of the other things I wanted which was appreciated. A fun part about this eatery is that you can shop other things while you wait! During my wait I got some tea and other snacks for home :) The water didn't taste bad which is a plus! It's a HUGE pet peeve of mine, the ac WAS broken though so it was a little warm but it wasn't too hot. I also loved the traditional music in there as well (an Asian decent not too sure which origin) wasn't too loud. Now to the food, the price is average to where I've been. Saps is typically 12$ for their curry's and I got their Tom kha to go and it was 11.90 total. I wanted something sweet so I asked for sweet mango sticky rice however he said they weren't going to have that until spring so that's important to know when going here! I've never had a ton kha with such big tomatoes (or any for that matter) I hate tomatoes so I took them out. Their tom kha is on the sweeter mellower side, the lime/tangy flavor isn't really there but it's still pretty good nonetheless. 6/10 kinda bland but ok read more

We found this restaurant through Yelp. I'm sure I never would have found it otherwise as it is located in a strip mall off the highway. This place appears to be a pharmacy or convenience store when you walk in but they also have a small counter for ordered food. Well, the food was quite authentic and I would say they offer pretty good Thai food especially for Texas. The curries and pad thai dishes were ordered were all well prepared. This place is mostly takeout only, there isn't a lot of seating. But the food is pretty top notch for something in this area. I would be hard pressed to find a higher quality restaurant for this price in an area with not a huge amount of ethnic restaurant choices. read more

Love this place! Great for carry out. If you're new and like noodles, get the Pad Thai. If you like a little spice, the Red Curry (I add chicken) is the best and saves me anytime I'm under the weather.
