My first visit to this place was during Covid. By mistake I was driving in San Marcos not knowing what to do with the social distancing.... I pretty much ordered the whole menu back then... now recently I went back with my friends. It is still the way I remember it! You order at the counter and you can go around the supermarket waiting for your food The sweetest old man was doing the service at the tables. Every time he came around I wanted to get up and give him a hug! It definitely doesn't feel like Texas or even the US... even the drinks you can grab them from the cooler are Asian! I wish i lived closer I would go on a weekly basis!

Wow, y'all. Being from Houston - with its amazing food scene - I was skeptical when a colleague of mine insisted that I try Prik Nam Pa in San Marcos. But holy smokes, this place is legit! The yellow curry with chicken rocked my world, and the roti banana dessert sent me off into the most wonderful food coma. You know that when your food is being cooked by an old Thai man who speaks little English, it's going to be authentic no matter where you are. Get in there!

My son and I have been craving Pad Thai but haven't found a place that looked good to us in San Antonio. Plus we always put the price into play. Most Thai food in San Antonio seems expensive- for us anyways lol. Since we took a trip to San Marcos we looked and found this little hole in the wall store/ restaurant. They only have 4-5 tables inside the little Asian Market they have but it seems they get a lot of take away. They have split hours and found out Yelp and Google say the restaurant closes at 3pm but actually close at 2:30pm for a couple hours and reopen at 5pm for dinner service. They do have a lunch menu with items starting at 9.99$ (pad Thai) and going up to 12.99$ and they have a regular menu with curry's, fried rice etc. Very responsible prices While we waited we checked out the few aisles of Asian items in the "store". Ending up spending and extra $20 on my kids favorite noodles that are hard to find. They have a small selection of fresh veggies and fruit. Tons of noodles. Sauces. Curries. Plus a freezer with the most popular Asian items to cook with . Within just minutes an older gentleman brought us ice water and some yummy fried wontons and sauce to snack on. I love fried wontons so this was a plus! Within another 5-7 minutes he brought out our beautiful plates of pad Thai. Fresh. Hot. Smelled sooooo good. The gentleman at the store who took our order was the best. Great customer service and great food! We're already trying to plan to go back!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]It may not look like much but this place is great![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I was excited to try out the Thai food scene in San Marcos and came across this Asian supermarket with a restaurant in it, I was excited to try it out! I liked the ambiance of a family-owned market/restaurant. Pad Thai - This wasn't the best Pad Thai I ever had, but I loved the flavors in this dish. It was too sweet for my palate, but I could still enjoy the different flavors and textures. Loved the crunchiness of peanuts in this dish! A plus - this was a huge portion! Overall, I would definitely come here again and try some of their noodle soups!

Coming through the door, turn left to see the front counter to view menu and order your food & drinks.

They name everything weird, off the Thai standards, so if you order pineapple fried rice, you actually get "stir fried pineapple, with rice" and "pad kee mao", an extremely common noodle dish, arrives as "kee mao," a rice dish. They make no effort to try to clarify, understand, or making things rice. And the food is fine and overpriced. There are way better thai places in town, with far better service. Go there, please. If you're going to charge $20 for a rice dish, at least try to get it right and stand by your product.

My mom came to visit for a few hours (it's about an hour drive between our homes) so after being here after a bit she was a bit hungry. She wanted Vietnamese food but I didn't know a place. We couldn't settle on a place through searching but I remembered a place that I pass often and have a bit of curiosity about. After searching, turns out it was a Thai/Chinese food place. She agreed and we went. Walking in there was a sign stating the need for servers (keep that in mind). The decor was what you'd expect from an old school mom and pops place. It was small and homey. The place was busy. There was a large party, a smaller party, a couple at the ordering counter and some stragglers coming in and out. For everyone there was only one server. The couple in front of us ordered then the server left to try to balance between the service counter and the tables. She came back but rather quickly but we told her we would take a minute. The menu here is rather large. When she came back, my mom attempted to explain she was looking for something similar to a Vietnamese vermicelli dish, the server just said "this is a Thai place". Well duh ma'am but we're asking for recommendations. I chalk it up to how busy the place was and maybe she was frazzed...still tho :/ But we moved on. My mom ordered a curry plate with pork (comes with rice) and an order of egg rolls and I got drunken noodles. Being that there were so many people, she said it would take around 20 minutes. We decided to wait and it did take around that amount of time. The food did come out hot though. I only live about 9 minutes away so getting home it was still hot. That's the only positive about the food. Opening the container for my noodles I noticed the noodles were in huge sticky clumps. I make a lot of Asian cuisine and that tells me the cooking method wasn't performed properly. From soaking the rice noodles long enough to making sure the wok was hot enough to cook the noodles without allowing them to time to stick. Something was missed. My mom noticed there wasn't a lot of meat in her curry and that the meat that was there wasn't pork but chicken. I looked and noticed the same. But upon tasting not having a lot of meat was a blessing. Turns out it WAS pork. It was cut into very small slivers and so incredibly dry that it lost all pork like characteristics and become some unidentifiable meat like ingredient. It was so bad my mom just took the pieces out and poured the soup of the curry over the rice. Neither of us finished the food. It was so disappointingly unappetizing after a few bites we just left it sitting. We both agreed it wasn't worth the almost $40. I apologized to her for recommending the place and for her spending her money. Needless to say I won't be back here. I hate to be so harsh to a local business so I gave it 2 stars instead of 1; but this place is bad.

The second we walked in it was cozy. It was also Christmas time so they had a Christmas tree and it was decked out in Christmas decor. Surprisingly there was only one other person besides us. We ordered gyoza as an appetizer. Took a little longer than expected but it tasted pretty good. I personally like mine crispy and this was a little more soft but flavor was good. Then we ordered either the General Tsos or Chicken Katsu (can't remember which!) My husband said it was ok. (But he's also a bit picky). It did come with soup which was your average Asian soup that comes with the meal. I believe it was the clear soup. I ordered the Otsu roll and that was delicious!!! My hubby tried that and he liked it so we ordered another! In fact, we've been back 2x since just to get that roll. It's deep fried with cream cheese, cooked or smoked salmon and eel sauce. Yum! The reason I gave it a 4 stars was for the softer gyoza and for the very slow service. The waiter was very kind and pleasant but he was the only one serving so at one point my husband had to get up and look for him and ask the chef to place another order because we had been waiting again for the waiter which we had to do a few times during our visit. All in all, we will be back! Loved the coziness, the non crowded space and most of the dishes.
