They are the best hands down. I went with my wife and I am a bit disabled on a cane and a speech issue. I had some cuts to be done on plywood with several 2 by 4. I could not have been happier. They walked me out to show me the difference between the products and were very patient. This is a professional store but the carpenter was willing to cut several small pieces of plywood (16 " x 8") for my DIY project. The carpenter was friendly and patience with a novice (like myself). He even recommended a suitable paint, nails etc. Very happy that this store is within walking distance from my home. read more

Yes, I love this place. I'm a big fan of hardware stores, and when they're located where they actually don't belong, I say: that's great! I walk in here pretty often because the little dog I walk in the morning and evening sometimes drags me in here--"Hey, there's a cat! Let's go bark at the cat!"--but I also find things I didn't know I needed. Like the hooks to hang things on the pegboards in our kitchen; we have pegboards on the two walls bordering the stove in our kitchen, and today I picked up some retail-style hooks that will allow us to hang more junk than the current hooks do. (Everyone needs more junk in their life.) And carpenter's glue, and plastic wood putty. They also sell things for big projects: sheetrock, lumber, paint. And they cut keys! This place is a keeper. read more

I was really torn about giving such a poor review to a local business, but they completely took advantage of me. I ordered some supplies for a project. The list of materials was provided to me by an architect friend who advised me exactly what to buy and of what quality. Half of the material was some 2x6 studs. These were not going to be a visible part of the project, but obviously could't be warped, etc. I made the mistake of asking the man who helped me if there was more that one quality and he said no, so I took what they had. When they arrived they looked rough, but I thought what do I know? When the person I hired arrived to put everything together, he said he had never seen anything like that. He said they were warped and unusable. I had two other people who work in construction verify. All said that these were unusable materials. I went back to Chinatown Building and they refused to fix things. They said that this was what construction grade looked like and that I was an inexperienced buyer. I asked to look at the existing lumber of the type and they only had one piece. I believe that they must have given me remainder pieces that were unusable as they were almost out of stock. They reffused to rectify the situation. I ended up going to lowes where the same type of lumber was much cheaper and looked great. I want to be clear that I was not expecting something perfect looking, just not warped and use able. These were not going to be visible, so I didn't care what they looked like. Now I am out $80+, plus $50 I gave to the guy who showed up to build but couldn't because of the materials. I am including photos so you can make up your mind. read more
