I had already had a library card, but I felt led to get an upgrade. I ended up getting the space city library card. Very vibrant, very demure, very essential. The librarians were wonderful, customer-centered and patient. I explored the downstairs area as well as the upstairs area. Books galore! I really enjoyed the short story creator downstairs, the bright colored seating, the art by kill joy, plethora of calendar events and programs. I didn't go to the outside area, but I'll definitely be returning. During my first visit, I checked out three books and when I returned for the second visit, I was picking up a hold. Conveniently located and definitely worth the visit! "Having fun ain't hard when you have a library card!"

This is definitely a library in the middle of the city. Let's talk about the good first…read more The Good 1) Balcony-Loved the patio area with lounge chairs and tables and shade. There was also a large connect four type item for kids to play with. Our kid loved it. 2) Children's book selection and game table-incredible selection of books that encompass all areas. We always look for books that will broaden our child's horizons and they delivered with their selection. They also have this big table which is a touch screen computer with interactive games for kids. We always play on the one at the Rosenberg Library in Galveston so he was excited to use it. 3) Staff-everyone was very friendly and even offered us calendars for children and adult programming that they offered during May and June The Not So Great 1) Parking-you park at the Montrose Collective and you get a discount but you only get the first hour free which is kind of lame because by the time you park and get up the stairs with a kid, you've already lost 1/4 of your hour. We were there two hours and paid right under $5 for parking. 2) The feel. Okay yes it's brand new and everything looks clean but it feels a little sterile. All the white walls and the plastic chairs feels so artificial. It lacks character and feels like a transactional type of place. Check out books and do what you need to do then leave. It could just be me because I grew up with the Rosenberg Library in Galveston and we just moved back from St Louis and were used to libraries having a homier feel but that could just be me asking too much. Overall it's nice to have a library in the middle of the city if you can walk there. Also you can check out 50 books at a time but you have to return them within three weeks.

This is the new Harris County Library branch that opened June 2011. It is a lovely building with a…read moregreat kid's section, separate teen room called "Teen Isle" and adult books. It also has a small book store. There is an informatin desk as you enter staffed with friendly librarians, and self check out machines. This location even has a drive thru to return books and pick up requested items. They offer children's story time and lots of activities during the summer for kids, teens, and adults with the Summer Reading Program. They have a book club, and active Friends of the Library group. The best part is they are part of the Harris County Library system and you have access to TONS of books and materials from the entire library system!!!

The children's section is a HUGE (& clean) play area, as is the Teen section. The travel/geography-themed shelves near the Passport Office were a nice touch. Surprisingly, I practiced self-restraint and didn't purchase any items from their Book Sale shelf, although they were hosting a generous "fill your (book) bag for $5" promotion. There just weren't any titles that stood out to me this time around except for The Clique, a remnant of my middle school reading habits, LOL. I loved the fact that they heavily promoted the Monthly Adult Book Club and even had copies available for checkout to all those who were interested. I only wish the book club didn't take place during the middle of the day OR that there was an option to join virtually. Nonetheless, this was an informative stop on my Houston Adventure Passport expedition :)
