I enjoyed visiting, and walking around the temple, and I saw people taking pictures inside the temple, which I thought wasn't allowed, but since they were doing it, I thought the rules had changed. So I snapped a few photos, and a gentleman came up and told me that I was not allowed to take photos in that area. Later on, I saw more people snapping photos in a different area, and I asked someone if it was allowed, and he told me that YES, it was only allowed in that specific area, so I snapped a few selfies there, when all of a sudden, an armed security guard yelled at me . . . "NO PHOTOS!!!" I said to him that other people were taking pictures here, and they said I could, and he just snapped at me, and yelled "NO PHOTOS, You've been warned twice!!!" What a way to harsh my mellow. I decided to just leave . . . it wasn't the excellent experience I had at my last visit . . . meh. P.S. This temple is celebrating 50 years in 2026 ... Happy 50th!!!

I can't even see the imam when he is speaking, which makes it near impossible to pay attention. I get to stare at a wall partition and hardly be able to hear because of loud kids screaming around us, both of which only makes my mind tune out and wander so I get next to nothing from the experience. They try to have nice community events but women need to go to the basement which is not an enjoyable place to be, while men get to eat in the nice Musallah. In 25 years of being Muslim, I never had to deal with the segregation I have experienced in every Pittsburgh masjid. And thank God for that, because it helped me remain involved in Muslim communities. But I have stopped attending all masajid since moving to Pittsburgh. The Prophet (saw) had women pray behind men in the same space, without partitions. I do not know why modern Muslims feel they have to "improve upon" the Prophet's ways. That said, I appreciate everyone who works hard for the masjid because I know their work isn't easy, and I pray everyone who goes there consistently and always grows closer to Allah and finds an amazing community. My kids enjoy going there when their friends are there.

It's a very very diverse community and all different backgrounds mix. There's events and classes including some free classes. Imam Chris and the staff and volunteers are great, they really care about the needs of the community and try to keep open dialogue. Each plant is clearly lovingly maintained, and displayed with a corresponding Biblical Verse. Many cities have hidden little gems that are unknown to the general public; this is Pittsburgh's, and it is a neighborhood treasure. Whenever I'm in Pittsburgh in the summer, I find there's no more uplifting way to spend a half hour.

Right now they are still doing things virtually but that means that you can be included when traveling. Our daughter and son in law had a baby naming ceremony via Zoom and it went beautifully. The staff helped make sure that family from all over the country were able to be connected in for the ceremony. They do a lot to make sure that children feel included. Their Tot Shabbat is able to hold the attention of even the smallest children.

What a warm and welcoming congregation!…read more The sanctuary is lovely, featuring beautiful wood and stunning stained glass. The congregation seems to enjoy singing, and there were lots of opportunities to do that in the service. The church is located across from a lovely stream, and I saw a fly fisherman returning to his car parked across the street. It appears that the building is often used by community groups during the week.
