Only being 15 to 30 minutes outside of the city (depending on where you're coming from), it's the closest and easiest to get to. This is a no frills orchard: pay for what you want to pick (for 1/2 a bushel it was $25), mostly the trees are macs and corts, you can walk right into the orchard or get a tractor ride down to other trees on the weekends, there's real apple cider available for sale (half gallon was $5), maybe some gourds in a pile. Easy peasy. If you were looking to make apple picking a quick part of your day and not a full on event, Randall Orchards is exactly what you're looking for. (SIDE NOTE: They love and respect others local farmers and other orchards in southern Maine; we appreciated having a heart to heart with an employee about some of the unfortunate closures that happened this year.)

I was super impressed with the beer selection, both refrigeratorated and on the shelf, plus N/A options, hop waters, mixers, you name it. Before I even made it to the beer section I was drawn to the prepared food because I was hungry and knew I would have to prepare something when I got home. I got smoked ribs (probably a half rack) for $11.99, Cole slaw and a broccoli bacon salad. They had multiple refrigerators and freezers with everything you can imagine, frozen Slab pizza, health drinks, locals meats, local ice cream, etc. I noticed a huge wall of local coffee so I will be going back to hopefully find espresso beans, which are challenging to come by. The orchard grows a ton of different apple varieties so there's good picking during the full apple season. We got to choose between Zestar and Jerseymac apples during our visit. I'm a big fan of crisp and tart so the Zestars fit the bill. Peach picking was a bit of the same only fewer varieties. Raspberry picking was a fun new experience. You're essentially hunting and the fruit that is ready to be picked will slide off their cone-like cores. Since it was early in the season most of the berries were small or immature and there were a ton of bees buzzing around. I mean a ton where you'd go to pick and they would be buzzing around your hand. Don't worry though! The bees are friendly and indifferent to your picking the fruit. Just be gentle. Pro tip: come on a day where there's a breeze. We went on a still day in August and it was hot! 90 minutes in the sun and we were feeling pretty crunchy.
