Vet techs Valerie and Hagen need training on how to handle dogs. They wouldn't bring in a mat for our dog to stand on. We told them he is a senior and the floor is slippery. Our dog was fine when he walked in and could barely walk to the car after being twisted and restrained. We took him to an animal chiropractor, and now he is walking again, and moving better. We first went to this clinic after moving back to KC. We saw Dr. Gabriella, I don't know what happened to her, then another doctor had his name on our receipt for a toenail trim. I have seen 4 vet techs come and go during the 4 months we went there. The high staff turnover tells me this clinic is poorly managed. We ordered Heartguard through their website, Dr. Sparrow cancelled and redid our order without consulting with us. This is unethical. We had to go in to the clinic to find out what happened with the charges on our credit card, because we couldn't get a straight answer over the phone. Thumbs down to Dr Sparrow, when we described the incident with the new vet techs she tried to talk us into getting tests run on our dog!!! She wasn't even interested in the fact that our dog was injured at the clinic!

I got on here to finally…read morewrite my review of Dr. Slyter from several other visits that I had taken my pets in to see him, and saw a previous review that was very negative. I wanted to try and give people another perspective about Dr. Slyter and his practice. Dr. Slyter has seen both my dogs and I even brought my son's cat over from another town. I recently moved here from Texas. I have a different perspective about Dr. Slyter's office and it's appearance. The vet I took my dog to in Texas had an office that looked like a day spa. It was by far the most fabulous looking office I had ever seen. Initially that made me feel great. I later came to understand why it was so elegant. It came out of my pocket book and many other's like me. The first thing I appreciated about Dr. Slyter was that we had a thorough discussion about each of my pets when I brought them in for the first time. They have had serious, complex medical conditions and he went over multiple different possible options for moving forward, but he was just as clear about telling me the limitations involved in running each test, along with the expense. I had already begun to believe that most of my dog's health conditions were caused by overly aggressive veterinary care and treatments before I took my dogs in. I never had unhealthy pets until I had pets I was in the position financially to get everything they were 'supposed' to have on schedule. So personally I was thrilled that there was no pressure for me to do this, or try that, the options were laid out for me and whatever I chose to do was clearly acceptable to him. I can only speak for my experience with Dr. Slyter and my pets, but what I most appreciated was the amount of time he spent assessing them and discussing the options with me. On each occasion I have been there I have never once felt rushed to make any decision with their complex conditions. His approach seems to be more of the 'old school' veterinary approach and none of the constant up-sell that I experienced from the 'day spa' veterinary clinics I took my pets to in Texas. Having read the other review, I can say from my perspective I am now relieved when I see/hear a doctor or vet not push antibiotics too readily. It's a difference in approach. I used to also feel irritated when I saw a doctor or vet and they did not offer antibiotics or something in an office visit because it didn't feel like I was 'doing anything' proactive. There is always a risk involved in not treating, but there are also risks involved with treating. We now understand that if we can avoid antibiotics it's best, because it wipes out both the good and bad gut bacteria. It may be appropriate to use them when necessary but having learned the hard way with my pets, and with my own health, I am pleased when I see a vet or a doctor not immediately prescribe them. The office itself is older and by no means like a day spa, but on the occasions I was there I did not notice it being unclean or unsanitary. The most important thing to me has been the amount of time Dr. Slyter spent evaluating my pets and discussing my concerns. I have been in there on several occasions now, including an emergency situation when my small dog was attacked by a German Shepherd. I can't imagine taking my vets elsewhere.

I was not explained very good about it when I was in the office. He talked about me having to get my dog heartworm treatments that would take almost a year before they would be gone, and then he said I need to get my dog neutered because one of his testicles was harder than the other so he might have cancer that would be almost $1000 to have it done cause he gave me a piece of paper that showed all the different tests that he needed to do and the cost of everything and it was almost $1000 then when I told him I didn't have that kind of money he act like I was wasting his time or something He did call me back the following day with the results from the bloodwork they did, but I didn't really understand everything he was saying he's acting like he was in such a big hurry to get off the phone so I did not like his attitude towards me and the way he treats people is not right the ladies in the office were all real nice and tried to help as much as possible, but not him

We initially took her in because she was having some difficulty walking, he attributed it to hip/back issues and prescribed 3 medication to help with pain and inflammation and said if she did not improve to bring her back in 7-10 days, her condition did not improve, we took her back a week later because she was completely lame and vomiting non stop; Dr. Stohs took X-rays and stated he could not see any visible issues with her hips or spine, but continued to insist it was a bulging/slipped disc and prescribed steroid treatment and sent us home with a referral for a physical therapy provider. That night, I decided to google her symptoms and the only diagnosis that matched her symptoms was Lymes disease, so the next morning I requested an appointment and asked if we could have her tested for lyme's disease, at this point Fifi was vomiting non-stop and immobile, so we had to leave FiFi in the car for the exam; she tested positive for ehrlichia, he injected her with an anti-nausea medication and a steroid and told us to wait another 2 hours before beginning ORAL ANTIBIOTIC TREATMENT, mind you FIFI had not been able to keep food or water down for nearly 48 hours at this point-- FIFI WAS DEAD WITHIN 36 HOURS!!! This man had the unmitigated gall to call myself and my daughter the day after her death and and then texted me " I don't have any idea why this would happen." If anyone would like to hear the voicemail or read the texts from him, I would be more than happy to share. When calling to inform the clinic of her passing the callusness of the woman on the phone certainly didn't help either. All I can say is don't attribute to malice that which can be explained by incompetence, and so I will not be bringing any other animals here. Will we miss you FiFi, you're death could have been prevented if tot would have received treatment from a doctor who was willing to do their due diligence to care for you.

Her…read moreenlarged heart seemed to be improving but suddenly went into crisis/experiencing great distress last week. Other offices I called just said no, you'll have to call around. When I called here, the person who answered said if I could be there in 45 minutes they could see her. I didn't have to say a word, the minute I walked in the door we were immediately taken to a room. We waited awhile and Riley collapsed. As soon as they heard my loud cry they came quickly and found a faint heartbeat. She was taken immediately and revived with cpr. I was updated throughout the next 1/2 hour as Dr K did all he could to save her. His demeanor was so kind as he explained how she had not received proper grading of diagnosis and counterindictative treatment. He described how she simply took her last breath. I was given as long as I needed with her to say my goodbyes then allowed to help prepare her to go to the crematory. No rush in choosing urn despite it being past closing time. I felt the condolences were very sincere and have since received a card from staff. I don't expect anything will change when I pick up ashes. For all these reasons and their reasonable fees I am a supporter and have found a new vet in Dr K for my next fur child.
