The Short Version: Dr. Pokorski has greatly improved my quality of life!
The Long Version...
After about 15 years of unexplained and undiagnosable symptoms, the worst being super recent, it was randomly suggested (by TikTok) that I see a Chiropractor - specifically an Upper Cervical Chiropractor. Seriously. I saw a TikTok that said: 'Do you have these symptoms? It may be this, see a Chiropractor!' and the video listed every single symptom that I had been experiencing. So I figured: why not?
Full disclosure: I've never seen a Chiropractor in my life, and I honestly thought they were 'quacks' and that no one but a neurosurgeon should mess with a persons' spine, especially the 'upper cervical' area of the spine, which is at the top and hangs out near your brain stem. Before I even sought out a Chiro, I learned that there are 'Chiros' and 'Upper Cervical Chiros' and to put it plainly: Upper Cervical Chiros are superior to 'regular' Chiros. If this were a Kung-Fu movie: an Upper Cervical Chiro would be Bruce Lee, and a regular Chiro would be some B-list actor pretending to be Bruce Lee. Not slamming 'regular' Chiros, just saying: there are very few UCC Chiros in the Western New York area (to my knowledge: there are only 2 within 50 miles of Buffalo; one is Dr. Brian Pokorski and the other one is in Canada.)
Making an appointment: the receptionist was super friendly and helpful; she spent a long time with me on the phone fully explaining everything to expect and what office's procedures and policies were. When it was time to hang up, I realized that I had felt as if I had been on the phone with an old friend; she was that nice and I enjoyed talking with her.
First appointment: Dr. Pokorski conducts a complete assessment: medical history, issues, some scans along your spine, a fun spinning machine for your head/neck to be x-rayed (or something), and lots of 'quality of life' questions. Dr. Pokorski is super thorough and very friendly.
Second appointment: This is to go over your results, and Dr. Pokorski does so extensively. But here's the cool part: as intelligent as he is, he doesn't speak in medical mumbo-jumbo. He speaks plainly in a way that is very easy for a non-medical-brained person to understand. At this appointment he suggested a treatment plan for me: 3 visits per week, for 12 or so weeks, to start. I'll admit: I thought this was nuts / overkill / a way to make bank. However, after doing some 'research' (googling) I learned that if things have been out of alignment for a long time (15 years in my case) then it takes very frequent adjusting until your body agrees to 'hold' the proper placement of everything. Sort of how if you're trying to burn some fat, but your body won't agree to do so for awhile because it likes remaining in homeostasis. So I committed to seeing Dr. Pokorski three times a week. Oh, and he did my very first adjustment this appointment, too. It was not scary at all.
Subsequent appointments: after a certain number of visits/adjustments, Dr. Pokorski repeats the initial tests to gauge your progress. These re-tests will happen a few times, actually. Eventually, you'll only have to go to 2 adjustments per week, then 1 per week, then maybe once every 10 days, or once every 2 weeks, and so on. And you're always welcome to call if you feel that you need an adjustment sooner. And once your body gets used to that feeling of being properly aligned, you'll know if something is off.
Overall: Dr. Pokorski is very friendly, nice, kind, knowledgeable, and he explains everything that he's doing, every single visit - which is cool, especially if you've never seen a Chiro and don't know what to expect (because it can be scary). I always feel safe with him and he has my complete trust. He can tell exactly where I need adjusting each visit, and I always walk out feeling better.
My own doctor could not figure out what was causing my symptoms. Bloodwork could not pinpoint what was causing my symptoms. I saw several specialists and tried many things before 'resigning' to seeing a Chiro. I've learned that a Chiro really should have been my first stop. Dr. Pokorski has greatly improved my quality of life! He truly is gifted.
Bonus: if you're a clean freak, you'll love his office! It is always sparkling clean, and he has beautiful landscaping out front, and off-street parking! read more
