When I contacted them, I was met with a dismissive and unprofessional intake representative who refused to answer even basic questions about their process. I was told they would not speak with me at all unless I first obtained a withdrawal letter from my current firm -- even though I made it clear I would provide one if they decided to take my case. As a veteran, I expect professionalism, respect, and clear communication from any firm that claims to advocate for veterans. Instead, I encountered rigidity, poor customer service, and a complete lack of courtesy during the initial interaction. If this is how they treat veterans at the very first point of contact, I can only imagine how communication would be once they have your case. I requested representation for help with a CUE claim with the VA, I spoke to a couple different secretaries who took some information from me. Give me an email to sense of paperwork to and then after two weeks, they called me back and just told me they would not help me they would not give me any reason why they wouldn't help me. They wouldn't give me any other information. They said they gave me a free consultation, but nobody fucking talk to me. This is the worst fucking representation of any lawyer. I've never spoken to because nobody from the law firm actually spoke to me. read more

CCK took my case March 2025. Very little communication from them throughout the entire time. March 2026 I receive notification from the VA that forms were filled on my behalf. All said and done received one month of retroactive benefits after them having my case for over a year. I thought the point of them taking certain cases was to win back the benefits owed. I was referred to this firm by Hill and Ponton after they would not take me. CCK would not represent me either, a 40 year National Guard, veteran and full-time technician soon to retire. I had to do simple math for them in that they needed to know that my son qualified to receive SSA disability benefits to qualify for VA benefits before age 18. They weren't clear as to why they didn't take our case, but seeing all the one star reviews........now I'm GLAD they didn't. read more

I hired them just to write a Higher-Level Review letter for the VA. They took weeks to order my records and said it would take months to review them. I kept telling them, all I need is that letter. They ignored me until I tried to fire them. Only then did they finally say, "Okay, we'll write it." After months of delay, they finally did--and four days later my VA claim was approved. They charged me thousands for ordering records and writing one letter. No review, no advocacy, nothing. I'm not the only one--check Yelp and Google. In my opinion, they're dishonest, unhelpful, and take advantage of veterans. I don't know how they sleep at night. read more

I am an attorney and I just had a very negative experience with Chisholm Chisholm and Kilpatrick (CCK) and I am astonished they treat prospective clients as poorly as they do. After completing a lengthy questionnaire for over an hour with them and uploading my most sensitive medical information to them I then waited a week for their "intake process" only for them to tell me they can't represent me. They informed me via a phone agent reading a 10-second script. They refuse to give any indication as to why. Is it because I don't have a good argument, is it because they think the result is fair, is it because the economics of my case are not compelling for them, is it because the CCK phone agent I spent hours with did not accurately capture the nature of my questions, is it because they are too busy? Who knows, I am left to imagine why. As an attorney, I am astonished that they treat prospective clients this poorly with zero professionalism. There is no reason they cannot provide a one sentence description of why they are unable to assist. They will reply to this Yelp review like they have to all others saying "we can't give legal advice to non-clients" but guess what, informing a prospective client why you think you're not a good fit for them or their case is not giving legal advice and is standard across the entire legal profession. CCK invented this position because it's slightly faster to dispose of prospective clients this way. In no other area of the law are prospective clients treated as curtly and poorly as what I just experienced with CCK. I can't recommend them because the process was less personal and less professional than the VA claims process itself. You can tell CCK is operated as a machine much like the VA. If you want to be treated like a human please look elsewhere. If you don't believe me, keep reading the other reviews. I should note I even offered to pay their hourly rate for advice, and even pay a retainer, but this proposal absolutely confused their phone agents who unfortunately are there to read scripts. read more

Did a 54 minute intake, provided all documents requested. The receptionist who called stated they would not be taking on my case and they refused to tell me why. Not even something to give to the next lawyer. One appeal has been waiting for 4 years. I told them how desperate I am and how much I needed help, and they did not care at all. If you have an easy case, they'll probably take your money. If it takes work, I suggest finding an accredited firm who actually cares about veterans. CCK is NOT it. read more

The only thing I haven't done yet is to sign the contract for representation. I came here to read the reviews and I am highly disappointed. Not because I believe they are a bad law firm, but because of all the nasty comments on refusal to represent. A little research on how and why an attorney will represent you should be done before bashing, not because they won't, they don't HAVE to. I called 48 hours ago, was asked to send in award and denials, seems common with all the comments. I received a text today to call for representation. A law firm is not going to represent a case when they do not see a favorable outcome, that is their reputation on the line. The same is going to go for Criminal defense attorneys other than a court appointed one.Yes they are seaking a payout, isn't that what we all want where employed? Law school is very expensive, as well as working your way up the ladder. At the end of the day my experience and issues are different from others. I do however know that, if you have not signed a contract for representation, they may not give you legal advice, the same as calling a doctor or nurse whom can't give medical advice over the phone, this is how lawsuits are created. Don't waste your time with this law firm. Humbled and in need of help, I contacted CCK seeking someone who could best represent me in disputing my VA disability claim. An administrative assistant asked me a series of questions about my condition, my problems, and specifically... my FINANCES Two days later CCK contacted me and indicated they had no interest in representing me. I was given an insincere apology and directed to contact the D.A.V. When I asked why I was declined / rejected... The Administrative Assistant confidently replied, "CCK is not required to provide an explanation for your application being declined." I am slowly going blind and CCK doesn't care. read more

Agent who called me was very nice and attentive however; the firm is either only taking easy squeezy VA benefit claims or just those that are going to give them big bucks. I was told that I was not in a TERA location, in the denial letter I received from the VA. Fort Carson and Fort Lewis were both added in March of 2024 to TERA sites. I was stationed at both and have presumptive conditions that are listed at both. I had all the information available to render to CC&K but they said they didn't need it. I had it all put together for them with all supporting medical information and locations. A few days later, they declined to accept my case. They depended strictly on my denial claim letter, nothing else. I would think this would have been easy for them but, maybe not big enough. Wasted my time. They are either not knowledgeable of the current status for VA TERA locations or they're just holding out for the big bucks. Not to mention they charge the highest rates for their services. Maximum charge of 33.3% of your retroactive benefits for services can be charged per government regulations and that is pretty much what they quoted me. Fees below 20% are generally presumed to be reasonable according to the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). read more

My experience with CCK was okay. Interactions with the frontline phone personnel were fine. However, like others, my issue was that, after the firm declined to represent me in my VA claim, I wasn't given any additional information as to "why". My frustrations have nothing to do with the decision to not represent, but the lack of transparency as to why. The reason given was that they couldn't give "legal advice". Additionally, there were no options presented that would allow me to receive "legal advice" from the firm​ (I'd have been happy to pay a fee to get more information). As I am now left to fend for myself with the VA, providing me any information (even if I had to pay for it), would have been immensely helpful. The firm says it is in the business of helping veterans, and if they truly mean it, they will find a "legal" way to assist them. Otherwise, it's just talk when your case isn't convenient via some inscrutable metrics. I would look elsewhere first before engaging with CCK Law on your VA claim. read more

Don't bother with these guys I appealed with these guys and no lawyer ever discussed my claim with me. They constantly send messages to you say your claim is ready and to call them. I hired CCK in 2019 they started out like a lion on a mission - Red flags they never answer all my questions - Red flag i had 10 unanswered claims they told me they would only use them if they needed to get me to 100 - unanswered claims is a treasure trove per retro back pay. Looks like they was on the VA side saving the VA retro back pay that they owe me. That's a super major red flag - those same claims that they never used. I have gotten back $100,000 so far doing them myself - They didn't do real legal work for me. They only regurgitated what I told them and put case law with it I'm putting in the mail today to the OGC for a full refund of the retro money that they got from me based on VA laws and regulations they did no new legal work to grant my claims By VA rules and regulations they get paid $0 Only thing they did was send a letter in saying all evidence is in. Would you please adjudicate the case? They did this for like 3 years. All in all cck was a waste of my time - after I terminated them March 2nd of 2022, they somehow has been tracking my claims uploading fees. They claims they didn't but I know that's BS. They work directly with the DAV. I terminated the DAV also for giving them information on the movement of my claims. The dav address is the same address is cck in Rhode Island and it's not listed with the DAV main office. That's actually a violation of VA rules and regulations and I'm a lifetime DAV member - I hired cck because they got this special clearance that they pay yearly. Once they get a client they can automatic go to vbms But when i hired them the VA refused them access to my files. Cck never told me this. I found this out when I got a copy of my C file cck did a privacy act request for my records. Washington told they no - So they had to wait on my FIOA request - CCK thinks veterans are dumb uneducated anything they do in court for veterans is not for veterans. My father was working with this firm on his claim for benefits related to some health issues stemming from the Blue Water Act. I'm not sure how deep he was in his dealings with this firm, but it seemed like a long drawn out process. Mostly due to government bureacracy. Go figure. Unfortunately, my dad passed without ever seeing a penny from the government for serving in Vietnam. But CCK kept chugging away on behalf of my dad for my mom to possibly get survivor benefits. We finally heard back from the VA and they agreed to provide survivor benefits for my mom for life! Very happy with the outcome. CCK wasn't paid out due to some issues with the VA. This firm worked hard for my dad. And although it was a long process, the front office women (who may or may not have been attorneys) were helpful along the way. It sucked they couldn't have got paid for all the effort they put in. I'll post these reviews in as many venues as I can - it's the least I could do for their help...Mahalo again for all your help! Could not explain why they could not help a 100% disabled vet get their back pay. I rate them a -10 and then some. No scale for them. I am a new client looking for an attorney that deals with LTD.I had called several times and left several messages. I didnt receive a call back.I then called again and was transferred AGAIN to a call center. I was told ( the team is busy,they will call you back). I was referred my my attorny for a LTD appeal. I finally received a call ( not from an attorney but a call center). they asked me to send documents of my denial letter along with a benefit letter from disabilty. I did send it as requested via email. I still waited for a call to find out the decision if they could help me in this matter. I still was waiting 5 days later. I then called again and was told the attorney cant help me. I then asked why?. I was told they cant give out that information. I asked the girl to please have the attorney call me. She then replied " I cant do that they will not be able to call me back". Ionly asked for a reason of the denial to help..I have never had to go thru so many loops to ask a question. Most attorneys have you come in as a free consult. I was never offered that. TO ME THAT SHOWS NO CONSIDERATION FOR THE PERSON. I have had attorneys that have a good manner and ethics.. I was very disappointed. I felt like I had to go thru the GATE KEEPER to speak with an actual attorney!!!.. well I suggest you think before you consider this firm because you should never have to be screened to obtain representation.. My claim is pretty clear cut, winnable, and important to my lively hood, but because it hasn't been pending long enough, their 20-30% payment wouldn't be enough for them to help. Very disappointed. They spammed my emails telling me they were "working on my claims" only to waste 3 weeks of my life. I spoke with them twice. First time was pleasant they heard me out and said we "should" be able to help you. I sent them my award letter which has several appeals available and potential increases as well. I think they are looking for the quick and easy increase versus actually helping any veterans. I don't really have much back pay that would be owed so the money for them is bad. Regardless of their website claiming they want to help veterans. I digress. Thanks for wasting both our times you should probably change your tune to that of other crummy law firms that only go after increases for the back pay. 1/10 do not recommend if you are actually seeking real help. Horrendous experience . Very unresponsive. You will never speak to an attorney unless they accept your case and when they deny your case, they hide be the excuse of "anything that is said to you can be deemed legal advice" when you ask for an explanation as to why they choose not to accept your case. As an attorney and a combat veteran myself, it's my opinion this firm only accepts cases that are "easy wins" to secure their fees. As a fellow veteran, I am telling other veterans, STAY AWAY. They do not care about veterans. They advertise on their website that they have licensed physicians who can evaluate veterans for C&P exams. I explained to them my case, and how the VA needed me to complete one. The woman incorrectly stated, that I must go to their contracted physicians to complete the exam. Frustrated, I explained to the woman how easy my case would be and as the call was ending, she hung up the phone on me. Disgusting. You're that busy and stuck up that you can't even wait for a veteran to finish their sentence? They do not care about veterans, only about their money. Stay away. I had a lengthy "track history" for what I needed to prove and just couldn't get it done on my own. Went through two other law firms with no avail prior to hiring cck. CCK went above and beyond what I had expected. I was attempting TDIU and came back one hundred P&T. They returned phone calls within a business day and emails a bit quicker. More sympathetic tone when speaking with my case manager, never had the feeling they were out just to get my money. Took the time to check in with me every now and again just to keep me aware of what they were doing and where my claim stood at that time. Have already referred other Vets to them and I would never give bad advice to a fellow brother or sister that served and is need of some true help. Please fellow veterans, do not use this law firm to represent you for claims. Choose a more respectful, professional and helpful firm that cares about you. They wouldn't help me with my claim, which is fine. I understand that every business cant help every one and every law firm cant take every case but the after I submitted took the time to submit and share very personal information over the phone with them i.e very personal and intimate details about my service that I do not divulge lightly their firm would not even pay me the respect of letting me know why they refused to help me. I completely complied with all requests, responded to all of their inquires to painful things I experienced and encountered and they lack the integrity and compassion to even explain why they refuse to help. Maybe my case wasn't financially worth it to Chisholm Chisholm & Kilpatrick and their wasn't enough money in it for them to line their pockets with the money earned from the blood sweat and tears of suffering veterans? Like many of the other posts on here, I reached out to CCK due to their web presence. They do put out some good articles and videos which contain relevant and useful information. That is the only reason they get one star. My impression of this firm is that the only analysis they care about is how much back pay a veteran might win in a particular matter as their fees are dependent on this. Their decision to take or reject a case really has nothing to do with the merits of the case or helping a veteran in need. They claim they cannot tell you why they won't accept your case but the reality is they would plain look like ass clowns if they owned up to the truth that they just don't feel like they will make enough money off of you. That's why they ask you about your current rating, etc. as part of their analysis. This is a call center with folks who answer the phones who are not trained in veteran issues. Ask yourself this - would you ever hire a law firm when you didn't even get to speak with an attorney to discuss the merits of your claim? As a disabled veteran, I would recommend that you seek representation elsewhere. These guys portray themselves as saviors of all of us veterans but turn their back on us because we are deemed not worthy of their time or effort. They are inebriated by the exuberance of their own verbosity and only look at THEIR bottom line rather than addressing the legitimate facts/circumstances at issue. AVOID CCK. read more
