I ultimately had to block CY Danceworks from charging my card and file a dispute. This level of communication is simply not professional, and I'm very disappointed with how this was handled.

The only issue and was the reason we stopped was the parents are hovering over and not allowing the kids to focus on the program. My kid gets flustered when adults are staring so she was unable to what was told by Ms Lizzie. I was a little nervous about sending my son off into a room since he's not quite of the age to do that with new people that I haven't gotten a chance to meet yet, but it was actually better for the kids + they had a live zoom feed of the room to watch how it was going. The teacher was really fantastic and understood the assignment and read the room perfectly, well experienced in teaching this age. She helped ease the kids in, offered toys for them for the session, and so on. Made it really interactive and fun. Started off with a singalong asking for participation on how to say hello in different languages which the kids loved, genius. Overall a very high EQ teacher and well structured class agenda, really nailed the teaching and interaction that works well at this age (and frankly any age, in the appropriate form). I was impressed and taking notes. My son had a cheeky grin after the class when he saw me after and couldn't wait to tell me what happened. He is excited for the next class!

I've been training capoeira here for a few months now and am really happy with the class, the…read morespace, and the energy. Shawn is a patient yet excited and passionate teacher. He combines all the aspects of Capoeira, which is a brazilian martial arts form that combines physical training with music, language, culture and has a unique history. The class has a non-threatening atmosphere with adults and teens training together and the energy is diverse and supportive. Classes are still small so you get the benefits of what is almost a private class. Yet the levels are mixed enough that as a beginner you can get a sense of where you are as well and the progress there is to be made. I would highly recommend this class to both youth and beginners. As a bonus the floors are padded in this martial arts specific studio, and there are mirrors for visual feedback, which really helps in keeping you aware of your moves and how they compare with the best practices and examples.

The kids class is lighter on the discipline than you might get in, say, a traditional karate class, but heavy on the fun. Music and rhythm are a big part of capoeira and every class has a section devoted to playing the instruments and practicing the songs. Besides the music, there is a lot of jumping and tumbling. Many of the moves resemble break-dancing. My kid loves it. I have practiced martial arts for almost 25 years, teaching for almost 20. I have multiple black belts in various styles. In my opinion, Shawn is a very talented, skilled, and knowledgeable instructor. Despite his obvious ability, he has an easygoing manner and infectious enthusiasm. I was so impressed with Shawn that I'm now taking private lessons. Capoeira itself is the culturally richest martial art that I have ever encountered. Although much of it doesn't seem so fearsome or serious, it's important to understand that the playfulness is by design. Capoeira was originally developed by slaves and other elements of society who, by necessity, were forced to disguise what they were doing. It is serious self-defense in its own right and I encourage anyone interested in martial arts to check it out.

I really needed to start working out again and bought a Groupon late 2022 and it actually ended up…read moresitting for a while, til close to the expiration date. I finally started and wasn't sure if I would stick to it since I favor high intensity workouts. I am now 1.5 months in, have joined the monthly membership and building this routine and consistency into my life. I love the breathing that takes place and it's been a really nice form of de-stressing (full time working mom of 2 kids). I've taken classes from different instructors and what I love is that each class is taught a little differently; they have their own routines. I have not felt like I've taken the same class twice. They really help you with adjustments and while I felt like I kept getting corrected, they're really intentional about helping you improve on your form and most importantly, being safe with your body. All the instructors and front desk receptionists are friendly. I'm really enjoying this new community. If you're looking to get back into being active, get curious and take a class!

Also, I am a Teacher (at a different elementary school), so my standards are quite high ;-) While working at Serendipity, I was able to get to know administration and staff on a personal basis. I got a behind the scenes view. The truth is that this school is as great as it appears to be. The teachers genuinely care about their students and are extremely talented. Meaghan, the Head of the School, is down-to-earth and compassionate. She deeply cares about the families and staff she serves. My son began Serendipity in TK. He wasn't a cookie cutter child by any means. In fact, he was diagnosed with ADHD and Sensory Processing Disorder during his first year here. When I communicated this to the school, the administration was very supportive and worked with us to make his school year a positive one. This year my son is in Kindergarten and is thriving. His teacher, Ms. Kim, has embraced his many quirks (he loves to sing all day long..as a teacher myself I feel for her!). He has learned invaluable skills such as self regulation, perseverance, communication and self expression. My formerly shy child, has become an outgoing little person who is confident in who he is and isn't afraid to be himself. When you join this gem of a school, you become part of a family. The way they teach writing through step by step process as well as singing, dancing, and brainstorming was very helpful. They also learned about grammar as well as how to write postcards/letters, which I thought was useful! In this age of texting/emails/instant chats, the art of writing is truly lost in younger generation and I'm glad that this camp teaches our children useful skills for school and their future. The founders also seem like really great people. When we signed up for the camp, they called us personally to welcome our child to the camp and follow up. Will definitely return next summer.
