It stocks candy from yesteryear and current hot items, plus candied popcorn, fudge and yummy drinks as well as souvenir items. The Candy Castle is owned by this amazingly warm and friendly gentleman named Kevin. He is a fixture in the castle and we have visited in all seasons, including Christmas when Kevin does chestnut roasts (over an open fire!). And reasonably priced for all considering how rare it all is. They are only open on weekends so plan your trips accordingly, but I highly recommend the "cold hot chocolate" as an impulse buy at the cash register. Several hundred calories be damned - that was the best chocolate drink I've ever tasted! Also, you have to buy on site. Bummer. Although the experience suggests this to be mandatory, it would've been nice to pick up / order missed items online. They used to do this but it wasn't profitable so they expanded their on-site offerings instead. The host whose name escapes me was in for me to e and passionate about this store & its mission. Worth the trip - combine it with Santa Claus, IN trip to stores and there park for a well-rounded adventure!

You can't go wrong with the chocolate caramel, caramel sea salt, or coffee caramel candies. The only negative I have is the volume of marshmallow filling in the marshmallow candies. I admit, however, I'm NOT a marshmallow fan and would prefer about half the marshmallow volume. That said, the filling was flavored well and is unique. Instead of a light fluffy blend, the filling consistency is much closer to an actual marshmallow and is different from anything I've tried . The caramel cafe mocha and dinner mint flavors are nice.

There was some kind of gutter work going on in this part of the street so parking was limited. Unfortunately, when we came by for ice cream next door on our first day in Louisville the candy shop was already closed for the day. The shop is a small, family-owned business operating since 1921. Inside are displays of handmade candies, delectable treats like Old Fashion Kentucky Bourbons and Muth's Modjeskas as well as unique novelty treats like horseshoe shaped chocolates. I was the first customer and I already knew what I wanted. The chocolates were already pre-packaged, I chose a bag each of the milk peanut clusters and milk chocolate raisin clusters... they were fresh and so delicious! So basically, this part of Main Street is candy central. Maybe these guys decided to team up, and figured that a rising tide lifts all boats. The Candy Emporium seems to have more commercial and old-fashioned candies than the other place. They also seem to get nasty with the licorice here, and in particular, black licorice. OK! I won't let you know my opinion about black licorice, those murdered-out pieces of vile rubber, because I don't want to yuck your yum. But if you are a black licorice fan, this is your place. They have bulk chocolates by the pound here (minimum 1/8 pound), plus lots of packaged candies -- everything from Starbursts to Laffy Taffy to Razzles and Necco Wafers. The price points range from 10 cents to much higher, so you can bring a kid here with some pocket change, and they'll be able to get a little treat.
