I went to lunch nearby and decided to come in here afterward and I'm glad I did. I got a matcha croissant and an almond croissant. My husband and I ate these later that day and they were both excellent. We both preferred the almond one. Next time I'd also like to try their plain butter croissant. The service was fast and friendly and the space is bright and clean and welcoming. I walked and driven by this place numerous times but hadn't gone in until yesterday. Opened in 2017 by pastry chef Kai Wong, Chocorrant is a patisserie and cafe that mainly focuses on croissants! The items in the cafe also feature a bit of an Asian twist to them which only makes the pastries more interesting and delicious. Named Favourite Bakery in the Edmonton Food Faves We Crave 2022 list, this Westmount cafe is a must-do for any croissant lover. The cafe leans modern with a clean and fresh look, lots of white tile, and dark wood. Although, I do think that over their six years they have become a little bit more boho with a lot more plants and greenery and cute string lights. Their glass case is a feast for the eyes with pastry jewels lined up in rows of every colour. Good luck picking just one thing because I sure couldn't! Orders are placed at the counter and if your desire is to dine in you can choose from seating both indoors and out front (in the warmer months) on the sidewalk under their yellow awning. There's a drink menu and I decided to start my journey there. It's a full cafe-style menu with all of the typical coffee-based options, ranging from espresso to tea to hot chocolate. There are lattes on offer in four different flavours and my selection was made easy when I noticed the Honey Rose Flavoured Latte ($5.00). I also wanted to choose a croissant from the case and there were at least eleven different ones to choose from, all lined up in neat rows. Using only the finest ingredients, each croissant is fresh, housemade, and many offer a unique twist. There are both sweet and savoury options, with delicious-sounding flavours like; Truffle Cheese, Curry Beef, Honey Pistachio, S'mores (there's marshmallow on top!), and Ube Coconut (it's purple!). And that's just a sampling from their extensive list of 18 different flavours. Each croissant consists of 73 delicate layers of dough and take three days to make. I managed to settle on the Matcha Croissant (Japanese matcha infused white chocolate - $4.75) but I really wanted to try them all. I appreciated the latte right away because the flavour of honey and rose was clearly apparent. I sometimes find that with flavoured lattes the flavour can sometimes get lost in the espresso. Not so in this case. I really enjoyed the sweet and floral notes in this latte and its creamy finish. They also offer tea lattes in a variety of flavours which would likely be very good as well. The croissant was expertly made with layer upon layer of buttery laminated dough. Ribbons of green dough accent this perfectly-shaped pastry with a dusting of matcha on top. Featuring dozens of flaky, airy, buttery layers, this croissant was surely one of the best examples that you can find in the city. I loved the matcha throughout. So delicious! (Pair this croissant with a matcha latte for an ideal matching combo!) There was one other croissant that I absolutely had to try and it was the Molten Salted Egg Yolk Croissant (Salted egg yolk custard, cornflake topping - $4.75). WOW. I love when I find opportunities to try something completely new to me and this was one of those times! The same buttery delicious croissant, except this one was served warmed up. Tearing into it, I was met with a liquid custard center that poured onto the plate like lava. Salty, sweet, decadent, plus great crunch and texture on top. This very special croissant was the highlight of the entire visit for me. I will return repeatedly to order this item specifically in the future! There are also Croissant Sandwiches available and if you want to turn your visit into more of a lunch (like I did) these are a great option for a more well-rounded meal. There is also soup on the menu which is housemade and rotates weekly. (Soup + sandwich = CLASSIC.) On my visit there were two types of sandwiches and I tried both! It was too hot for soup but it was Mushroom Tarragon, which sounded pretty good. The first sandwich was Turkey Cranberry (Sliced turkey, melted brie, cranberry sage chutney - $9.50). Served on their lovely butter croissant, this sandwich came out looking fresh and delicious. I liked the tasty slices of turkey, oozy-melty brie cheese, and the tart-sweet cranberries. This sandwich will remind you of a holiday meal, that's for sure! Very comforting and not too heavy. The second sandwich was the Roast Beef Melt (In-house roasted beef, horseradish mayo, white cheddar, mozzarella - $10.50). In all honesty, I was less excited about this sandwich (and more excited about the other one) and boy was I wrong! This roast beef melt was the favourite! Deliciously warm and melty, again served on a fresh butter croissant. The filling almost seemed like a roast beef "salad" as the tender pieces of meat were chopped fairly small and mixed with gooey cheese. The horseradish mayo added a wonderful zippy kick, a classic flavour pairing with the roasted beef. Of the two sandwiches, this is the one to order. Was looking for a new patisserie to fill the gaping void that La Boule left in my life and thought I would give this place a try. I know it has been around for a while now, but I rarely venture out to 124th st, mainly because I find parking (or the lack thereof) a huge deterrent. Chocorrant is right by OEB, so it's hard finding parking. I did go on a random weekday afternoon though, and lucked out and found a spot about half a block away. There was nobody in there when I arrived, so I was promptly greeted. The person serving me let me take my time mulling over the display case and I didn't feel pressured to quickly order something. Everything here looks delicious. I came for the cakes, but the array of flakey, colorful croissants caught my eye. They have a package deal for 6 croissants, so I opted for that (who can resist a deal, amirite?!). I also left with a couple of small cakes in tow - the earl grey (to die for; great earl grey flavor without being too sweet) and the lychee rose (which I felt tasted more rose than lychee). I would definitely come back again to try the other items... and probably on another random weekday afternoon so that I can park my car. read more

This is one of my go to's for croissants. They have a large assortment of different flavors so make sure hype go early so you can get the ones that you want. They can be sweet or savory and packed full of filling. My f sorties are the creme brûlée and the ube coconut. They also serve hot and cold beverages and an assorted ent of cakes and tarts. There are a lot of options and the staff are pretty patient while you make your way through the menu. The restaurant is quite small with limited seating. I've been to Choccorant many times, in fact I even ordered from them through Door Dash on my wedding day! While these aren't the type of croissants that you will find in France, these are uniquely flavored with a great texture. Flavors of croissants include matcha, strawberry, S'mores, apple brie and truffle cheese...just to name a few! While the sweet croissants are good, they are just a tad too sweet for my taste. Because of this I prefer the savory croissants. The apple and brie has to be my favorite! Choccorant makes more than just croissants. They have a wide selection of equally tempting pastries, as well as a lunch menu. I've heard that their quiche is the best in the city. Ordered the BLTT (bacon, lettuce, tomato, turkey, avocado in croissant) sandwich, vege quiche, french onion soup and cookies and cream croissant, chocolate croissant, and creme brulee croissant for dessert. The BLTT was good...croissant was buttery and crispy on the outside, the ingredients were pretty fresh, and overall taste was good. French onion soup was ok...pretty much onion soup, with croutons in it. Came with a side of focaccia with olive oil drizzle. Vege quiche was interesting...they had spinach and zucchini but they left them whole and layered it on top which had the (assumed) unintended effect of making things soggy, combined with wilted spinach, and too doughy of a crust, wasn't very good. Beautiful bakery! The croissants and the little cakes look too pretty to eat! Well...almost hehe. There were so many goodies to choose from! It was hard to decide what to pick! Each of the sweet croissants are $3.75 each. The savoury croissants vary in price from $2.85 to $4. They have a deal of 4 croissants for $14. I ended up getting 2 creme brûlée, 1 lemon meringue and 1 truffle and cheese croissant. When we were paying, the Earl Grey Opera cake caught my eye. I love Earl Grey! I had to get it! At $7.25, it seems a bit expensive for such a little piece of cake. But this isn't some massed produced grocery store box cake you're buying here! It's definitely a special treat! Just by the number of layers (7?) on the Earl Grey Opera cake, I could tell that it takes a lot of work to make these cakes. This decadent cake contains: Earl Grey sponge, chocolate feuilletine, Earl Grey dulce de leche, caramel ganache, almond sponge and vanilla streusel. There was even a little bit of gold leaf on top! Fancy!! I ended up cutting the Earl Grey Opera cake into 3 pieces for my Mom, Dad and I. It was so rich that this small piece was enough for me. The croissants were flaky and delicate in flavour. Very easy to eat. The croissants were decorated in such a way, as to to give you an idea what was in them. For example, the matcha croissants had green dust. The strawberry croissants were a little pink and has some strawberries on it. You get the idea. I'll have to try out the other flavours next time. I didn't find either the cake or the croissants too sweet. For my first visit, I didn't try any of their regular food. It looks like they have a variety of sandwiches and soup to choose from. Why am I the last person in Edmonton to know about this place? I have a lot of catching up to do. This place is located around the 124 street area, next door to some amazing food places, I was lucky there was a parking spot right in front (it was just meant to be). There were a few chairs and tables outside the place, as I entered it was very modern, cool, simple... I was digging the vibes. I strolled up after ogling the croissants and was greeted by a nice girl. I ordered a regular latte and 4 different croissants; matcha, strawberry, creme brûlée and chocolate. I marched right out of the shop and into my car to rip open the box and rip those fluffy, delicious croissants apart. I could go for another box as I type this. I did notice they had some breakfast items on the menu but didn't take too much look as I already had my eye on the prize. I 100% recommend this place. read more

You can even get a croissant sandwich, along with other pastries, and, of course, freshly-brewed coffee drinks. I had a butter croissant and coffee as an afternoon treat, and the freshness and flavour of the croissant left me craving more. My coffee had been just brewed and was excellent. My earl grey latte was probably one of the best I've ever had. There's no other coffee shop that has made it to my liking in the past. They also offer a variety of croissants, sandwiches, pastries, baked goods and more. I tried the lemon meringue croissant which was so delicious. The inside is stuffed with lemon filling and there is a big wad of meringue on top of the croissant. Price wise they're cheaper compared to other fancy bake shops I've been to. They had these huge chocolate caramel cookies for $1 which elsewhere would be $3.50+ The shop is located on 124st just before it turns into jasper ave. It's a brightly lit little place and doesn't have a whole lot of seating. The first time I came it was dead so I snagged a seat before the crowd filled in. The second time around it was packed and the service was pretty slow. I watched people come after me get served even though I just ordered a tea and croissant to go. I waited 10-15 mins for a drink. The staff were welcoming and kind. I will definitely plan more coffee dates here. read more

This spot is located on 124th street just down the street from that hipster joint Remedy. They serve pastries but more so specialized croissants... I'm started to question on what the fuck is going on with Edmonton so that people can get financing for dessert places. I swear to god, this is like the 3rd dessert orientated place I've reviewed in the past month. What the fuck! Anyways. They have croissant sandwiches for lunch at a cost of $8 and then an extra $3 or $4 bucks and you can get a combo with their daily soup. This is average I guess because with the croissant sandwich comes a little side salad-- it's not a huge salad but imagine just reaching into a bag of "Superstore" mixed greens and sprinkling it onto a plate. Although the salad is small there is a wicked vinaigrette that is glazed on to it. Fucking delicious. So the sandwich is small... but it's incredibly flaky and fresh. They make all their desserts and shit in-house which is nice. I did go twice so it's obviously an attractive spot. Be willing to spend at least $10-$15 on your lunch though... also to add. This is a typical lunch I would imagine. I'm used to eating until I can't breathe... literally every meal-time that is allocated to me whether it be lunch, dinner or breakfast-- I would turn into an hour long buffet. But this is a nice light lunch... after you finish, you can go back to your shitty office job and not want to kill yourself or take a nap and then suddenly wake up screaming or worse... caught snoring. I needed to do some work so I decided to take a walk 124th and see what was new. I stumbled upon this gem and was pleasantly surprised. The smell upon entering is so yummy that it is hard to just stop in here for a coffee. It's a beautiful and modern bakery offering a great selection of croissants and cakes. They also offer some breakfast/lunch items in case you don't have a sweet tooth. You can get your standard cafes and teas and there is a water station to wet your whistle. Staff was very pleasant and gave some good recommendations for croissants. I decided to go with the cinnamon role - which is being featured this month. It's my understanding that it isn't a flavour that is regularly offered. It was delectable! Buttery, soft, sweet and the perfect amount of cinnamon. I also had a late which was made well using ACE coffee. I was able to connect to wifi free of charge and get some work done and enjoy the ambiance. I came here to get myself a treat after my exams. (because you gotta get something sweet to even out your bitterness towards exams) My friends and I came here while walking through 124th and noticed this cute shop. We went in and were greeted kindly. She gave us plenty of time to choose what we wanted, since we wanted to do the deal of buying 3 crossiants for $9. She was also very sweet that we got to choose which individual crossiants from that row that we wanted, without and judgement. The crossiants themselves were very flattering to look at. When people say you eat with your eyes. This is one of those moments. So, I did have high expectations. Was it flakey? Yes. Did it have a lot of layers? Yup. How did it taste? Out of this world. I have this traits that got from my mom that made me enjoy things that are supposed to be dessert, but they aren't overly sweet. This is one of those things that I enjoyed. My friends and I got the almond matcha crossiant, cookies and cream, matcha crossiant, and cinnamon swirl. While I was at home, my mom also tried a crossiant-- the matcha crossiant. She really enjoyed it too. So overall, product is good. I will be back to try other products too. Service is great! Super kind and patient. Came here promptly for a 9am Friday opening. I was excited because I've tried Kai Wong's pastries when she was pastry chef at Alberta Kitchen and Bar - they were memorable to say the least. This place opened up Wednesday this past week with little fanfare or social media presence (No FB, Twitter or Instagram profiles as far as I can tell). They do have a website which only hosts a few photos and the date of opening as of viewing today. No menu or other information provided. Irregardless, I was the first customer of the day and when I arrived only one item was out for display. Apologies were provided stating the pastry chef was running behind and items were slowly being brought out. Thankfully I had some time to wait... I stuck around for about 30 minutes to see what else was being served today. By the time I left there were still a few items hat had yet to be put out. Baked goods consist of different flavours of croissants, savoury danishes and a muffin and cookie selection. A small but beautiful selection of cakes are also on display as well as their only consistent vegan option: a blueberry tart. Along with baked goods, they serve up a limited drink menu of barista- style beverages. Also, a selection of bottled juices and water etc. There is a changing menu of the day consisting of a soup, a quiche and a sandwich. What I ordered: - matcha croissant: although puffy and light with a crispy exterior and fluffy interior, i found the flavour of the dough itself to be too savoury (salty?) and the croissants to be overly browned for my preference. The matcha filling inside though was yummy but way too little in my opinion. - strawberry milk croissant: same problems as above but also a delightful but limited amount of filling inside. - herb and mushroom danish: I got this for my husband since I don't like mushrooms - he said it was okay - he felt the filling needed more saltiness. - ginger molasses cookie: I thought it was going to be chewy and soft but it turned out being a hard cookie with slight chew so I was let down. - lemon cheesecake: BEST thing ordered!! Hubs and I both agreed it was so good and even he, being a non-cheesecake fan, would totally order this again! Service was friendly and questions were answered promptly. The space itself is beautiful and bright with tons of natural light from the front windows. There a set of tables along the one wall for patrons to sit and enjoy their food and drinks Also of note is there are 2 high chairs for use so mamas and papas take note! There is a really nice selection of croissants with different fillings, danishes, and small pastries. I had the lemon cheesecake and my husband ordered a mushroom danish because he was in more of a savoury mood. The cheesecake was light and airy. The lemon was subtle and wasn't packed with a punch as lemon desserts sometimes can be. This would be a great place to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee or meet up with a friend! I've been curious about this place since social media has been aglow about this hotel pastry chef turned independent cafè owner. The location is along some other popular locally owned businesses. There's a street parking outside the cafe & outside seating with an awning but very close to pedestrian traffic. It wasn't very busy at 12:30, but there was a steady amount of people coming in for takeout. Inside is pristinely clean & bright and smells of delicious croissants. Half the food displays are croissants of savoury or sweet flavours. They've got great lunch specials and the dessert pastries are extravagant looking to match their prices. I have no regrets on spending $16 for a soup of the day, a bacon jam croissant & a earl grey opera cake (it even had gold flakes!). It was absolutely delicious. The dessert even travelled well & remained intact in the box, it was incredibly rich though, so I ended up sharing bites with the rest of the family. I would be weary if you have but allergies, a few croissants had almonds or Nutella in them. I appreciate how there's a self serve station for cutlery, coffee add-ons, and lemon water. There were high chairs, but no change tables, although the handicap washroom did have decent counter space for that. A stroller could easily fit in this cafe too. Staff are great here & very personable. They are prompt, serve your order to your table, heck, they even hold your boxed takeout dessert in their fridge case until you are done eating & ready to go. Chocorrant has become my favourite patisserie in Edmonton. They've really stepped up their croissant game, with my favourite being the creme brûlée. A crunchy exterior, flaky inside, and oozing creme brûlée filling. *drool*. They've also expanded their cake choices. I love the passionfruit hazelnut cake and the chocolate crunch cake. It was quiet when we went so a I am curious on how they handle during rushes Being in Edmonton and on 124 st they will experience a comparison to Duchess Bake Shop. Safe to say, Chocorrant and Duchess are similar but cannot really compare the two. Though I am glad Chocorrant is here to add to the variety of high quality pasteries you can get in Edmonton and more specifically on 124 st. Mushroom and herb danish. A savoury danish that's nice and flakey. I really enjoyed the filling, but like other reviews when you get to the middle of the danish, filling is few a far between bites. I feel like there could be a bit more so every bit has some filling. Kinda like the feeling you get when the see the patato chip bag is mostly filled with air. Luckily the crust is great so isn't much of a loss on experience. Nevertheless, the filling and shell was a positive experience, just needs a little improvement to make it worth my while. Matcha croissant. Very consistent with the quality of the pastry as the danish; nice and flakey. The matcha filling is nice and light and is experienced with every bite. Apple caramel. All the ingredients really contribute to the flavour experience of this dish. You can really recognize all of it. A must try! Pastachio and hazelnut cookie. This is the first time I experienced a pastachio cookie and Chocorrant has executed. I am huge fan of buttery and soft cookies but I dig this crunchy biscuit like cookie. It also has the right amount of sweetness and the hint of pastachio and hazelnut is nice. They have a limited drink selection but what they do have makes sense. A number of teas and lattes to choose from accompanied by fruit juices. I would not expect Chocorrant to serve the big name sodas (which they don't) and part of me is glad they don't. Sidenote: Great music selection is added plus for me. Adds to the atmosphere and while trying out Chocorrant I had to set my Shazam on auto because outside of the top 40 I wanted to know every song that played. Found this little gem purely by chance. We originally wanted to go to OEB for breakfast but coincidentally they were closed due to some technical problems. This operation looks like a family owned operation. Service was very good and the food was delicious. We really enjoyed the Peking chicken on croissant and eggs Benedict with smoked salmon on croissant. The pear pastry was also very good. I like that their dessert is not very sweet. Made it here for their flavoured croissants!!! Love the location, closer to start of the 124 Street businesses. Simple interior and a few tables outside. Recommend coming here during the week, well stocked and not too busy. Bought all six flavours available today - almond, strawberry milk, matcha, cookies & cream, chocolate and feature banana nutella (spread made instore). Sadly we have baking overload at our place this week with Little Miss at Junior baking camp at Nait However the 6 pack assorted made an awesome bday gift Bought one feature croissant (soo good) for a snack with my iced matcha latte. They also had non-dairy beverages for their drinks, 5 right there. I did order their cake sampler, to try 5 petit-four size pieces of their cakes. Oh man oh man... this place rocks! I'll have to go back to try out some more goodies but I was super happy with the crossaint I picked out! They were all delicious! As far as parking goes, if you're heading here at a less busy time it might not be a big deal but it is street parking so more often than not you'll have to walk a little bit. I came on a Sunday so it was no problem but I would imagine it might get busier. The inside is really simplistic and clean, with a decent amount of seating! It was very much so like most cafes in Edmonton and next time I will probably choose to sit in instead of taking out! The gentleman working at the front was kind and helped us out .... After about 5 minutes of actually making a decision; there's so much to choose from!! Which isn't a bad thing at all, Infact I was really impressed with the variety! A lot of cafes tend to have the same flavor profiles across the board but they definitely stepped out of the box with some of their stuff : crossaints and all! I was intrigued to try the ube cake but settled on the steal of a deal for 4 crossaints - a lemon, almond butter, apple brie and creme brule. I was able to try two of them, the lemon and almond butter, both of which were SO good! I couldn't decide which one I liked more! The boyfriend who tried all of them settled on the creme brule one being the best by far! So, his opinion is that the creme brule is a must try if you swing by here! read more

What an absolute dream come true this place is. I read the chef is very well established from other bakeries around Edmonton so it's nice to see she has done this on her own. Total girl boss! There is not a ton of seating available but it was quiet when I went in and I was just in time for the lunch menu (11.30am FYI). I was so happy because I don't really have a sweet tooth so I was after that salmon croissant. The Lunch menu is written on a lovely big chalk board at the front and it looks really well done and very enticing just like the display of fancy pastries and cakes along the front. Service was fabulous, to attentive and happy to chat as we ordered. The salmon croissant has a caper cream cheese and the side salad was light as air. I loved every bite and kept telling my dining partner after each one, how good my lunch was. I'll be back Chocorrant. read more

Another wonderful cafe! I popped in here yesterday for a coffee to go. I was instantly hit with the amazing aroma of their baking, which looked irresistible. They have a beautiful selection of croissants- I was personally drooling over the apple/Brie option. They have other baking as well- all of which looked amazing. I got an americano to go, and it was really delicious! The vibe here is really nice- clean and simple decor, plants, lots of white, and fairly quiet. I could see myself enjoying a cup of coffee and a croissant while doing some work on my laptop. Can't wait to come back! read more

It opens at 10. The closer you time your arrival with opening time will change your experience. I was on 124th on a Saturday at 9am for some bizzaro reason. Feeling a bit peckish i decided to try pop in for a bite. No joy, open at 10. After a longish stroll down 124th looking for something open at 9 am and finding nothing I doubled back and found myself back where I started....but now it was after 10. Gruyere and ham croissant. Delicious croissants!! Which come is so many flavors- savory and sweet. We got the apple and Brie & strawberry milk- loved both. Flakey, buttery and soft on the inside. They also have interesting cakes that I want to come back and try. Also a variety of coffee teas are very reasonable prices. Latte was good. I really like the coziness and the feel of this space - very bright but warm and welcoming. I love that they have sample platters of their desserts so you can have a small taste of a few things at once (really cuts down on having to choose!). I think when they first opened they were working out some kinks with their baking, but I have found that they are much more consistent now. We've always been able to find a seat (it's a small seating area) but it's definitely gained in popularity recently. They have started a savory lunch menu that offers croissant sandwiches that I'm dying to try. read more

Unbelievable croissants and wonderful service. I just popped in to grab a box of pastries and the small, clean, cute room made me wish I could hang out and try more of the menu. Being a first timer it took me a minute to find my way around the menu and to stop drooling over all the artwork pastries. During my awkward stumbling the girl working there was very sweet and helpful and made me feel welcomed instead of rushed. I got a sampling of a bunch of their different croissants and not all of them survived the drive home. The rest we savaged in a couple hours. They were too soft, flaky, and delicious to last the whole weekend. I will be making a detour to stop there next time I'm in the area. Great job guys! read more
