Have been a loyal customer my whole life and my first account was opened for me upon my birth before it was Choiceone 46 years ago. Starting to feel I need to move on as their customer service to fix glitches on the online banking doesn't seem to be of high priority. Choice one in Fenton is a disaster. Customer service said I had to be present in person for them to fax a copy of the bill payment to GM Financial. I asked if they could send me the check and they emailed to me? What? They can email anyone a copy of anything but they can't do simple customer service fax after they verify my authenticity over the phone. Something is fishy is going on with this company! I called the main office in Fenton and asked to talk to the Manager and they transferred me to her extension and the Out of Office Msg said she was out of the office was until Oct 2 which was 9 days ago! I have a checking account at Choice One Bank in Lapeer,MI. I brought my loose change into the establishment to be counted and the girl working there said that she could not count it unless it was already counted and put into rolls. What kind of bank is this that won't count the money of a customer? This is their job and it is ridiculous to me I will be closing my account. read more

Offering the ability to pay my loan payment electronically using my saved payment source which would be an outside financial institution... I have this ability with every other bill I pay every single month, why does choice one bank not give you the ability to save outside payment sources? Very inconvenient and enough to make me refinance my loan with another bank... I shouldn't have to jump through hoops every month to pay my loan because they're technologically inept? When I called the bank, their phone/automated prompts are worthless, the recording tells you to press zero but pressing zero puts you in an endless loop and takes you nowhere. It took four return calls from the bank to tell me that they didn't know if they even had the ability to save payment sources... they were friendly enough but seemed confused about Saved Payment Sources, like I'm the first person that's ever asked for this functionality which I simply cannot believe! I would not recommend this bank to anyone. At one point, after a merger, my account number was the same as someone else's, and mine had to be closed, no problem. But it took almost a year to get cards for my new accounts. I had to contact them repeatedly to get some cards, but still not all of my cards. Recently, they closed my online accounts due to no activity, which was fine due to me using a new bank. I called to get my account officially closed and get a refund for the money left in my account. They told me the account was closed and I'd receive a check. Two months later, I get a statement saying I'm being charged fees for having a low balance. I called again, and they confirmed that I called previously and closed  the account, but they'd have to look into it. I received a cashiers check a couple of weeks later with the fees still taken out, although they confirmed previously that the account should have been closed and no more fees were taken. I don't even care anymore, just glad I don't have to deal with them. Honestly, they're hard to get a hold of, and they aren't reliable. This isn't location specific. read more

Worst banking experience I've ever had, both with actual bank accounts and with a loan. One of the most shocking things about this bank is how primitive their website is. It's archaic. It's slow, takes forever to load, it's not intuitive, it's not appealing to look at. Online banking with them is the worst, login issues, username issues, multiple user issues... it's nonstop. Oh and have fun paying a fee for every little thing. There are so many banks out there who just don't charge fees. So why choose one that does?? I would never recommend this bank. read more
