She…read moreacquired quite a collection, so we go together one evening to put together apothecary bags to give to the unhoused. Since we made about 90 kits, she figured it would be best for us to deliver them to an organization that assists those in need, and she found Foothill Unity Center. Foothill Unity Center is a multi-service agency that provides services to individuals and families in need. Founded in 1980 by Josephine Anderson, the center has become a source for food, health services, and crisis assistance to thousands of low-income families in the SGV. The place is clean and spacious and the staff were friendly and gracious for our donation. It felt nice to do something good for others and give back to the community. The security guard on duty was an absolute doll - polite, friendly, and respectful. He made our day as much as we made his. They accept donations of any kind and you can drop off during business hours 8 am - 4:30 pm Mon - Fri. Donation wish list: https://foothillunitycenter.org/wish-list/ You can also volunteer https://foothillunitycenter.org/volunteer/.

If you are a fan of the Huntington Collection in Pasadena, you'll be sure to love the Bargain Box. Just like the Huntington Collection, I can't call it a thrift shop since it's not like any thrift shops I've been to! Looks more like an expensive antique shop when you step inside. I was blown away by the quality of the available merchandise, especially the housewares and decor. It's very evident that all of the pieces on sale were meticulously cleaned and staged by the hardworking staff. All of the furniture and housewares are excellent condition, not to mention very well priced. Make a point to visit before Halloween! The store is all decked out with Halloween decor! The Bargain Box is managed by the Assistance League of Arcadia, and one of their worthy endeavors is Operation School Bell, which provides much needed clothing as well as school supplies such as backpacks and books to children in need in neighboring local schools. There's a small parking lot but there should be plenty of street parking available if needed. Also, be aware that the store has limited hours since it's managed by volunteers. It's only open two days a week, Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 10am to 1pm.

Clothing, jewelry, books...they carry a little bit of everything here. I enjoy browsing the racks and shelves even when I leave empty handed. Good to know: They are only open on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I suggest subscribing to their email list so you know the weekly happenings before you visit. The lot is on the smaller side and it fills up pretty quickly. There is plenty of street parking on Live Oak, but that also fills up on Wednesdays. If you arrive a little before opening there is usually a short line outside to get in, but there is never a mad rush to get in or anything, so don't let the line scare you away!

The are people staffed at the drive-thru line to help you unload. I find the process relatively efficient and helpful. Sometimes there was a short wait. After you donate, you get a paper receipt and a 20% coupon for up to $100 on purchases inside the store. I have never gone inside the store until yesterday. My daughter and her friend wanted to go thrifting. So we did. I ended up finding a pair of sandals/wedges for $10, looked completely unworn and a beautiful LV bag! Their selection of designer handbags is very limited. There was only one designer handbag which was the one I bought. The experience was surprisingly fun and gratifying; like finding treasure at a bargain price! I ended up using the 20% off coupon on my purchases and saved more. I also liked the recycling aspect where instead of buying something new, buying something pre-owned which in return helps the environment. I got to shop and felt good about my purchase. LOL. There is free parking on site right outside the store which made it pretty convenient.
