We used Choura for our wedding rentals at Saddlerock Ranch and couldn't have been happier! Jim and his team were such a pleasure to work with and the process was stress-free! Jim and Liz were always responsive whenever I had a million questions and allowed me to visit the headquarters to see products in person. As a bride, it is very reassuring to have the feeling that your rentals are in good hands because they're such a huge part of the wedding day! They have a huge inventory and If they didn't have a specific item in stock they would find an alternate option. Choura puts these sweet awesome events for all their clients. This is the 2nd free event - the first one was awesome too.. it was like going to a club on a weeknight... shhh =) The tasting party: The lounge ? Snazzy Snazzy! Plush sofas and ottomans for guests to hang out. The food - oh thank you, free! =) -mini beef wellington, crab cakes, ahi tuna appetizers -salad, salmon, cordon chicken, shrimp scampi, roast prime rib (cut and served for you) -roasted potatoes, veggies and rice pilaf. cakes --- thank you to Great Dane - we got free cake tastings of red velvet, white cake and lemon cake. chocolate fountain with desserts (strawberry, marshmallows, cheesecake, rice Krispies) the bar? oh yes, free too. :)I tried out 3 of their drinks - excellent. best I've had. :) Loved the Japanese Garden one - green tea, sake and grenadine syrup. Choura catered my wedding and they were great! I started my consultation with Lisa who then left the company and then I worked with Abbi. The transition between the two consultants was seamless. Abbi was fantastic to work with and worked with my schedule. I actually never met either Abbi or Lisa in person so I can vouch for their ability to capture details and my "vision" working completely remotely. Juan Carlos was our server the day of our wedding and he was great. Very unobtrusive, prompt, and courteous. He made sure all the beverage glasses were full. :) As far as the food goes, it was really good! I was surprised as I did not have high hopes for the food since I find most wedding food to be blah. But the food was extremely tasty and most importantly, served warm (food had to travel). We also rented flatware and chairs and everything was in great condition. We rented table covers, 8' tables, white wooden chairs, kid's table and chairs. The event was on Saturday and everything was delivered early on Friday and picked up on Monday. Table covers were nicely pressed and very clean. the white wooden chairs were pretty beat-up looking and very slippy so it folded if a kid was sitting on it.. It's only made for adults. A few kids almost got badly hurt sitting on the folding chairs. they only have bright blue color for kid's chairs. My kids are both girls so blue didn't go wiht the party colors but it actually looked ok... read more

I got to attend a New Years Eve party in Long Beach that was put on by Chora Events. They did an excellent job of creating a high end atmosphere that was still cozy. The bar tenders were awesome and I especially liked the gas powered broken glass fireplaces. Great staff, great atmosphere and great party! Will use again in the future. read more

I was very disappointed when I called Choura today to rent furniture for an event in my home. First, I asked about renting the Eames Chair White to be told that she had no idea what I was talking about. I explained that i was looking right at their website that said that they had this chair to rent. I spelled it for her and she finally found it. Shouldn't someone answering the phone know what they have in inventory and what the cost of the item is? She had no idea of the cost of the item. Then I explained what I wanted to rent and she told me that they would not deliver - too small of an order; needed to be a minimum of $600 for delivery. I explained that I had rented from them multiple times in the past and had never spent close to $600 and they had always delivered. She told me that she would need to get back to me. When she did get back to me via email (I had not provided her with my email address so she obvioulsy found my information in their files) she told me that "I asked the account managers if they remember working with you but they cannot recall" so they would not deliver becasue we didn't meet their minimum. What this says to me is that Choura is now only interested in large events/rentals - good for them, bad for their customers hosting smaller events. Being a repeat customer obviously means nothing to them. When I do plan a larger event in the future and need to rent tables, chairs, etc., I will not be calling Choura for rentals - there are plenty of other local businesses to do work with that don't say no to the small orders and I won't be shy about sharing this with others when asked about rental companies. I'm giving this review 1 star because Yelp would not let me post without at least giving it 1 star - I would have preferred zero stars as an option. read more

they were our wedding caterer. our sales rep was knowledgeable, not pushy, and was flexible with our requests; however, several things i must note: 1. terrible communication. first quote we received did not match what was on the uploaded pdf on their website. when i talked to the sales rep, they said it changed, so i said... then take the document off your website because then it's false advertising. they would not bulge on the cost so we went to the sales coordinator about our experience, where they took our feedback seriously and assisted us. it resulted in the VP of the catering company calling us to apologize. even with our new sales rep, it took the the guy 2 wks to requote and even then, the calculations were wrong, so there were several revisions. 2. went for a tasting. the day before the tasting, we were informed of the cost. it would've been myself, fiancé (now husband), and the mom/dad in law. they wanted to charge us per head. i understanding charging us full price for two because it cost them time/money to set up a meal for us, but also the same amount for 2 additional ppl? ok, it's a business, i get it but still. the thing that really peeved us was the fact that we were not aware of the cost until the day before the scheduled mtg, which at that time... we had pay over the phone prior to coming. there was not online website where we could do it at our convenience. not cool. 3. unorganized. wks leading to our wedding, we had to work with a diff choura off site coordinator. we found out the one we were working previously was no longer working there, so they deferred us to another person who had no idea what was going on. i had to talk to the sales rep several times where he'd apologize and assure that he'd relayed the correct info to the new person. an example included whether or not choura would provide the soft drinks. from beginning to end, sales coordinator and i were on the same page that choura would provide it; however, with the choura off site coordinator (since she was new) kept telling me that it was not written on the paperwork. anyway, the day of our wedding, they did not have the soft drinks for us. they scrambled around and ended up going out and buying it at a local market. it was stressful. 4. not upfront about pricing, unfortunately. i dont appreciate the disorganization and the misleading prices. at the end, they charged us the new service tax which was higher than initially communicated. the VP called us to honor the old service tax but when the final bill came in, it was not the case. i was pissed and not happy. awful people to work with. would not work with them again. read more

I've had multiple sports banquets catered by Choura Events, weddings of friends catered, and private birthday extravaganza's catered by them too! They are just the GREATEST! I eat lunch at The Grand, every Monday with the Long Beach Executives Association, and they always serve a great, fresh and tasty lunch. The menu's are varied so you don't get tired of the same old same ol'. The staff are so great! We've had the same servers for 15-20 years. The food attendants arrived with everything needed to accomodate the food. The attendants constantly flowed in with warmed items and the buffet table looked fresh everytime! Much to my dismay, I never needed to pull them and ask for something. It was so smoothly executed. A one stop shop that turned out to be completly worth it! I shopped around and found that Choura was a little more expensive, but honestly worth it. We hired Choura Events for our wedding catering because of their affordability but the most important thing was the taste of the food as well. I couldn't believe the value I got for their service. A full staff, 3 entree Buffett, plateware/silverware/glassware, coffee/tea/water, and 2 bartenders all for approximately $6,000. Their braised beef, and carne asada was amazing along with their chicken. Our guests were complimenting the food and wanted to go for seconds. Choura Events not only created a beautiful structure for sit down lunches, receptions for 1,500 and more, he also incorporated flooring and unique lighting that brought the events to life. Choura is the contracted on site caterer at the Carson Center. The staff is fine, food is good, but they have increased prices 30-50% each of the past 3 years. Sadly we have had to leave the Carson Center. I highly recommend the Carson Center, but only if you don't need catering for a large event. read more

Our non-profit organization hired Choura to do a luncheon for us for 600 guests. The quality was decent but the business practices were unacceptable. They were spotty with communication and ended up swindling us out of over $5,000 above what they had quoted us. They are not up-front about their charges, so beware. Highly recommend doing business elsewhere. Every dollar we lost to Choura takes away from students in need, so we cannot afford to work with them again. read more

I've used Choura Events twice. Once for my engagement party at The Grand in Long Beach and my husband and I thought they did a pretty good job that we used them for our wedding reception as well. Well, at The Grand, the staff there act as a middle person to getting down everything you want, the choosing of linens, all the details that are important for your special event in a timely manner. Having them deal with Choura for us, was a breeze. Dealing with Choura directly was a mess! Our rep was "Joey", our first meeting with him was good, we told him what we were looking at as to what we wanted. Joey said he was going to email the estimate. A week goes by, no email. And it was like this all the up to the week before the wedding. Where we physically had to go into the office only because we had to give them money. And then we ask about the wedding cake that's included in the package we chose, and he tells us to go to the bakery we wanted our cake from and tell them Choura sent us. The weekend before the wedding! Then come the morning of my wedding day, I get a call from Joey saying they haven't received the final payment. Way to start the day of my wedding. Try calling the groom a few more times before you call the bride. Thankfully everything worked out in the end. And the reception was awesome. It was just the leading up to it that was a little rough. read more

Just used Choura for my party last weekend. They did an awesome job. They had to scramble to set up on time because the event prior to mine ran overtime. The food was great!!! My only complaint would be the service charge. Although it seems to be in line with rates in the Los Angeles area (20%), it adds quite a bit to the bill. Beware!! To all the brides considering this company, make sure you do your research well and cover every detail before booking! I am sure the company overall might be decent, but we were unfortunate to get a staff member that is not representing this company well. Before booking she seemded very helpful and professional but as soon as my fiance and I booked them she treated us like "another business deal". This person has neglected to follow through with any calls or emails. Not a nice feeling when you are planning the "best day of your life". We constantly have to "track her down" before anything we request could be done. With all that has happened, we are very afraid of how our wedding day could turn out and how our guest will be treated. This is not the kind of service a person paying $9,000.00 should receive! We are looking for another catering service and hope we can get all of $ back. read more
