I quite liked these however they had been drizzled with chilli oil which we both found too too hot. It spoiled the dish really. Soft shell crab was perfectly delicious. Except also drizzled with the chilli oil really people? We want to taste the food. My friend was perfectly happy at this point I however was a little underwhelmed. Dessert made up for it. Banana fritters with ice cream and caramel drizzled around. Oh yes! We topped that off with a shot of kalua each and a fortune cookie. Fortune cookie tasted fabulous, my fortune message? It is the primary reason for our repeated return. We come here for the seafood with the cheesy lobster dish being a favourite of ours. However, market price for lobster at the moment is around $170 per kg, so we gave that a miss tonight. Service is slow, so, if you can order well in advance, you should, especially for takeaways and traditional, highly prized dishes such as lobster, king crabs, mud crabs, Peking duck and drunken chicken. Tonight, we had the salt and pepper prawns (shell optional - why? who wants to eat the shell?), fried barramundi, Peking ribs, salted fish fried rice, chicken and jellyfish, pork belly in Dong-Po sauce, prawn balls with greens, seafood noodles and hot and sour soup as starters. Everything was lovely, wasn't a big fan of the ribs, because I found the sauce too heavy in sourness. Barramundi wasn't as well seasoned as it could be. Other than that, it was great! Everyone enjoyed the shared meals and pretty much rolled out of there. The place might be outdated, but the consistency of the food is why we return year after year. Price wise, I think it is very reasonable given the area it is located in. Highly recommended.

I'm pretty sure I'd seen this restaurant a couple of times before while driving up the road, but I…read morenever bothered to go in until my friend told me that there was a good Korean restaurant over on Payneham Road and I realized this was it. Being called Sushi Gallery, I originally thought this might be some small Japanese sushi restaurant, however upon further inspection it became clear that it was not... well not exactly. Now, they do serve sushi (though you have to pre-order in order for them to make it apparently) and they do have some Japanese dishes such as Tonkatsu and Okonomiyaki. However, past that, their primary mains are Korean dishes and from the way design their menu to include Korean words to how they traditionally serve Kimchi and other side dishes along with the mains, I am certain that what this place is primarily a Korean restaurant that happens to serve Japanese food as well. Either way, I'm not too fussed with the details. I like both Korean and Japanese food, so for me I get the best of both worlds. When I was there last, we ordered a Chicken Katsu, a Dolsot Bibimbap and theses Okonomiyaki balls (which were called something else in Korean but I forget the name). The meat for the chicken katsu was abit dry, but the other two korean dishes were excellent as were the sides that accompanied them. I get the feeling that Korean dishes are probably more up the chef's alley. It's not a very big shop, so during dinner time it can get full very quickly. The time I went was just before the crowd arrived so we were extremely lucky that day to get a seat. There was only one person in the front of house who was taking orders, serving and accepting payments. I get the feeling that this may be a family run operation but right now I'm just full of assumptions. The decor inside is simple but elegant and gives the place that classic oriental feel so you know that you're in either a Korean or Japanese restaurant. I'll be heading back there to scope out more of their dishes. I almost feel reluctant to write this review as I know that once people catch wind of this place, they are going to want to go to it, and once they do they will keep coming back and I may not have anywhere to sit any more because it becomes so popular. Ok, maybe I'm OCD-ing a little bit about the potential of the place, but for me, this is going to be my go to Korean restaurant from now on, and as such I'd be more than happy to keep it my little secret.

We decided to order a few different things from the menu and share. We started with a serve each of the Shallot Cake. All I can say is "wow"! They were seemingly so simple, yet so full of flavour. The outer pastry was crunchy and light while the inside was gooey and full of the gorgeous shallot taste. I'm so glad we opted for a serve each! Just looking at that picture is making me wish I was eating them again. Not too sure about the carrot and cabbage on the side. I just think it's better to have nothing than to have something that can only work as a "filler". There was no dressing on it, just a bit of colour on the side. That's a very minor criticism though! This was really a great way to start our meal. We chose three items to share, Coriander Chicken, Sizzling Black Pepper Beef and Vegetarian Fried Rice. I must confess, I had to stop myself from gobbling it all up myself instead of sharing. Every dish was just so full of flavour and made you want to eat more and more. First the chicken... I know some people don't like Coriander. I don't get it, but I know it. This was very heavy on the coriander which just lifted this dish. The chicken was tender and everything else on this plate just married so nicely together. My favourite of the night though was definitely the sizzling beef. Our waiter brought it to our table and did the final preparations before placing it down, sizzling heavily, on our table. It smelt so divine!!! And honestly, I don't know how they get their beef to be so tender! It was just a pleasure to eat. It was definitely a different flavour combination to the chicken, yet was equally, if not more flavoursome in its own way. I could have had double this serve on my own but had to show restraint! The mushrooms were definitely a stand out. Finally the fried rice was again, just perfect fried rice. Again I tried to think of what they could have done to improve it and really, there was nothing! It was not too full of ingredients and there was a slight smokiness to it all. I could have had a full serve of this to myself too!! We were really in raptures over everything and as mentioned, by the time we left, the place was full and buzzing! I'm glad we'd got there early, enabling us to have a bit of a chat with our waiter.
