For mains I had the four spice fish (a house special) which was lovely! Crispy fish tossed in a really aromatic coconut sauce with vegetables. A bit of spice but nothing overdone. It didn't seem like any particular Thai dish I've had before but it did scream Thai flavours. Divine! My partner had the chili stir fry with chicken. Another knockout dish, this was perfectly cooked and had the right amount of chili. He loved it and I tried and it was definitely nice. We finished our rice by pouring it into our bowls to eat every drop of sauce. Great! Service was odd; they were genuine but seemed overwhelmed by their own jobs. There is restroom facility onsite, but its quite a bit of a walk, and involves going outside, so be aware of that if you go during some cooler or wet-weather days. Unfortunately, the tables are rather small, and they have a bit of a full table with 'decor'. We were a table of two and found it a little difficult to have main plates and personal plates on the same table without the near miss (or two) of tipped over plates, but we managed to make it work in the end.

First impression was it's got a very take away vibe to the shop itself which isn't a bad thing at all, just the standard fish and chip shot style counter and some seated area to the right of the store with a big screen tv which is a good touch for those who want to eat in. We ordered the esculent burger and small chips which came out in about 10 minutes from ordering and very fresh. The chips themself were fantastic and we loved the fact they had a selection of chilli sauces too! To the burger.... it was OK. Certainly not bad at all but just lacked a little bit of flavor for us, it was very fresh and pretty good value but just needed a bit more punch to the taste. During the day there is seating to sit back and relax (or if the weather is nice, why not find a spot on the grass or down on the beach?), but I've noticed they block off the inside seating area when they are open in the early hours of the morning (probably becasue they know most customers are going to be drunk, loud, etc). The prices are pretty decent ($10-12.50 for a yiros - which are a good size). Please note, Souvlaki Bros doesn't have a close time, they are open til late every day.

Intrigued, I kept following the signs, wondering where the hell I was and if I would find anything, until I finally spotted the last sign pointing me to the back of a building that overlooks a little water and a lot of boats. Portobello is a beautifully designed and stylish establishment, almost empty at 3pm in the afternoon. The only waiter on hand was having a glass of wine with two friends, but was happy to make me an iced latte. I sat out on the deck, enjoying the view and the odd surroundings of fashionable new residences. The coffee was fine, though a little watery by the time all the ice had melted. However I did appreciate the large size of it on the very hot day. I love the clean, modern design of this place, and definitely plan on coming back for dinner. They have paintings by local artists displayed on the walls, with contacts and prices beside them, which I also really liked. It's the only food place to be found in this area, so thankfully it looks to be a good one.

Meals are incredible value and a main course will feed 2 people. You can order an entree size of almost everything though (even though that's not mentioned on the menu). Both times I've dined here on a pasta and a risotto dish) I've found the food to be incredibly salty and otherwise pretty plain in flavours. Salt, cheese, and maybe another herb. Little things like undercooked pumpkin in a dish and too few prawns in a risotto were also a bit disappointing. I've dined at quite a few spots that can make a simple napoletana pasta taste like angel's tears but unfortunately I'm yet to be convinced here. The service here is incredibly quick but often feels rushed and a little intense as a result. It's a great place to bring a group as you can actually hear each other even when it is buzzing with theatre of footy goers. Do make sure you book in advance though and don't eat lunch beforehand!

My (Chinese Malay) aunt insists on eating here when she visits Adelaide. Customer service is hit and miss but easily overlooked! My faves - Peking duck, chilli chicken and the roast duck. I also firmly believe their deep fried ice cream is THE best I've ever had! Has never disappointed me and I'm a loyal patron.

We are staying at the Stamford in Glenelg so it only made sense to try their restaurant. After driving all day, we were rather exhausted, so happy to sit down for dinner early and a superficial look down the street did not seem to bode well for a quiet dinner. Probably a little too early and with the restaurant empty, I opted for their Singapore specials. Very quickly started off with entrees of vegetarian spring rolls and Singaporean curry puffs. Both nice and the curry puffs very well spiced but not exceptional. Then, although waiting staff were quite pleasant (perhaps the lovely young lady might have stopped chewing gum during service) and reasonably efficient we now waited almost an hour before the mains were served. As I was already exhausted this was quite a struggle but eventually my Nasi Goren's arrived. It was actually lovely. Well flavored and nicely prepared. One of life's pleasures is an indulgent high tea. How about a Guinness World Record breaking…read moreattempt high tea, with 549 other guests, al fresco, on Glenelg pier? Who would dream up such a thing? The Stamford Grand as it turns out. With no advertising, the event sold out within 2 weeks. Sun shining and sea breeze blowing, we signed the Guinness World Record register for the World's Longest Cream Tea, found our seats, and were offered a glass of Jacobs Creek bubbles. Everyone was jolly, despite the increasing sea gusts, as we were all in it to support Novita Children's Services. We were dutifully informed that there was a contingency of Guinness World Record officials monitoring our every move. The defining act - taking at least one sip of tea and eating at least one bite of scone each - to secure the record. A tantalising glimpse at the menu tempted us as we sipped bubbly and were offered refills of our tea by a smiling steward. Before too long, and surprisingly quick given the huge amount of people to cater for, a two tier stand arrived laden with sandwiches, hot savouries including the Stamford Grand's signature curry (chicken) puff and tandoori chicken skewers, scones, and teeny cakes. There were fruit tarts, banana cake squares, mixed berry mouse, and mango pavlova's. Awaiting a special meal (vegetarian) I was informed that I would get my very own plate. Well given the chill wind I couldn't wait and did my bit for the Guinness World Record and sampled the scones and other sweets. The scones were perfectly warm and short, accompanied with a variety of jams and whipped cream. My favourite sweet was the fruit tart with lovely pastry, custard and glazed fruit. Having been marked off the register for the Record, my individual vegetarian plate arrived. It is most impressive that dietary considerations are accommodated for such a large scale event. Plus everything on the plate was delicious! A vegie skewer of barbequed veg had nice smokey and sweet flavour, there was a tasty samosa, finger sandwiches including pesto sun dried veg, guacamole, and salad, a piece of orange syrup cake, and carrot & walnut cake. It was at about this point that a particularly gusty burl of wind air lifted my mother in law's hat and sent it soaring effortlessly across the jetty onto the beach below. Justin Higgins, General Manager of the Stamford Grand shouted "I'll get it!" and so he did, collecting some sir lifted napkins and glasses at the same time. We had the opportunity to ask if the long high tea would happen again, and all signs point to yes due to the success. As the weather was closing in, once we had supped on the delicious goodies, we took to the promenade back along the jetty. Smiling staff, as on arrival, farewelled us, welcomed us back soon, and told us that if the world record bid was successful, that we could expect our certificates in the mail.
